Everyone Neil is not an asshole, he's taken Charlie as his own child in his mind because that's what people do when they marry someone who already has a child. He's genuinely concerned about him as a parent. He's a psychiatrist, an academic mind, he sees logics and in the real world if a kid started acting like Charlie any parent would freak out in his and Laura's position. He's doing what any down to earth parent would.

@vercetti2021 I agree, that's the one thing I never liked about Neil, it's like because he's a psychiatrist, the takes it upon himself to make sure Charlie has a "firm grasp on reality" and knows Santa doesn't exist, and the whole time I'm like, "Uhhhh Charlie's like 5, he's not like 11 getting in fights with kids at school over it..." and the mom just went along with the step-dad. I'm glad it had a happy ending though with all of them getting along.
