bertha thompson, "Rake Knitting Patterns" i found it on a site about industrial arts and vocational arts. i was hoping you knew about it and could find a copy. i was researching the history of rake or loom knitting among the many names for this type of knitting. this is so NOT fake knitting. it has been around since at least the middle ages. i found a site that spoke of all the items made from loom knitting: vests, petticoats, sweaters, socks, stockings.. i can't remember them all.
I started loom knitting in january. still learning but since you made the video in 2006, there has been alot of people who are look knitting and a lot more resources now. Without youtube i would not have been able to do it. I need to watch how its done not just read directions. Anyways Your kids must be growing by leaps and bounds by now :)
i have been a knitter for several years...and i started looming not too long ago...i was taught and read that garter stitch is...knit every row...or purl every row...when you knit with needles knit one row and purl the other row that is stocknet stitch...anyways...good video
Knitting on a loom is like knitting in the round on needles. The right side of the work is always facing you. So just like working in the round on needles if you want stockinet you knit every row, if you want true garter stitch you alternate knit and purl rows, and if you want reverse stockinet you purl every row.
Hi! I am going to 8th grade and just yesterday started knitting on a loom. I have been hand knitting for2 years and was just wondering because the work at first feels rough, after multiple rows will it get softer, because maybe the loom is stretching it?
Very nice Video. I ordered a knitting board and it just arrived today! I taught myself to knit this past summer but this seemed like it would be fun. :) Do you have any of the long knitting boards?
VERY cool. I just started croocheting fairly recently, and everyday it feels more like I "took the red pill" because i'm quickly discovering just how vast the possibilities are with yarn crafting! ^_^
Denise I made the pinwheel blanket and the girls from rake knitting, DAlooms and boardknitters really liked it. I sent them to your site. I love the blanket. Maria
On regular straight needles yes knit every row, knitting on a knitting loom or in the round on circular needles you need to alternate knit and purl rows to get the garter stitch pattern.
This was a wonderful video, but I was expecting you to show us how to loom knit. :( Do you have more "instructional" videos or know where I can find them?
What a cute video; makes me want to get a loom. I crochet, but I was never able to get the hang of knitting with needles. And HURRAH for home-schooling moms!
Nice video. :) You remind me of my piano teacher. (She's awesome so it's a good thing.) I have a loom knitting circle too but I can never seem to keep the yarn on the posts. Oh well.

Thank you for this! I knit with a loom too, and I get so sick of people that call it "fake-knitting", just because they don't know what it is.

I'm brand new to knitting, but I thought garter stitch was knitting each row, but that knit row, then purl row was stockinette?
girl920 5 years ago
Well it depends on how you are knitting it.
On regular straight needles yes knit every row, knitting on a knitting loom or in the round on circular needles you need to alternate knit and purl rows to get the garter stitch pattern.
