I'm thinking of buying the Compaq Presario CQ57-410US 15.6" AMD E-Series Dual Core Notebook Computer. Do you think it might be worth it? it's on sale but not worth it if it's slow and with issues. this one would have a built in webcam which is cool and mic.
I've had this same laptop since about the time this video was uploaded. I've had no problems with mine. I don't stress it though, it's pretty much and internet & itunes machine for me. My biggest complaints are the cheap keyboad/touch pad. The cd/dvd drive is pretty slow as well but it works.
@officializzytv Yes. But If you are going to get a studio, I wouldn't get this entry level laptop. I'd get a mid end to high end laptop that's a bit faster with more RAM and a faster processor, like an Intel Core i5 at least, with 4GB or more ram.
@thunderbird469 Lots of laptops can be configured and built with or without a webcam. Compaq puts the same webcam software on all of them, I'm sure. Also, you can buy a USB webcam for $30 from almost anywhere if you need one.
could it run children's software programs (e.g. American Girls Premiere, Girl Talk, Let's Talk About Me! Too, Press to Play, Personal Makeover, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Dr. Brain, Magic School Bus, Rockett's New School and Kid Desk)?
@befron2044 I am not familiar with those programs, but this laptop, or any current laptop, should run any programs designed for Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7. So Yes, those apps will probably run.
@TheMacGeek aside from that, could it run Julie Saves the Eagles (transferred from my old desktop PC onto a USB Flash Drive) and Hannah Montana the Movie?
@befron2044 I'm not sure. Just read the minimum hardware requirements that are on the box of the software, or on their website. This laptop, or any current laptop for that matter, will run just about all Windows PC software that is available. These days, even the cheapest $300 to $500 laptops will run anything.
@TheMacGeek What the hell? I bought one of these for $500 and I couldn't play WoW without lag! So I got a Mac OSX instead. And do you know what kind of graphic driver it uses? I'd like to go back to that laptop and sell the Graphics driver.
@TaxConsumption Mine played WOW with no lag just fine. These Compaq presarios come in many different configurations, different CPU's, memory, video cards, even among the same model number. Maybe you got one slower than mine. You can't play WOW on high settings, but on low to mid settings, it should play just fine. Just turn down those quality settings to stop the lag.
@rhysyboy56 this laptop will probably be able to run it. It can play Crysis and Call of Duty modern warfare 2, so it can play just about anything, but sometimes you have to use low or medium settings. Monitor resolution should be set to 1366x768
@simplewesomeness i use it on my 250 gb compaq 09 desktop with 2gbs of memory btw i recommend giving ubuntu like 40 gbs they say u should atleast 20 gbs but after it is installed u get 6gbs of free space
@kpaiwand it depends. Some have a webcam, some don't. It depends on if you ordered one with a webcam or not. My laptop doesn't. You can clearly see if its a webcam or not if you see a circular hole with a camera lens on the top of the screen. If there is just a black plastic cover, then no, it doesn't have the webcam.
@HaloForge149 wow, thanks for the compliment ;) Why does it matter what type of computer displays I use, as long as they work? Not everyone has the latest 30" lcd display. These screens here are for my computer business, so I do not need fancy screens to repair computers.
@rockstarc407gmail The computer runs just fine. I am still using the same computer. It runs all my applications great, and I sometimes play DVD movies on it, and they look great on the widescreen display. I highly recommend this computer, but only if you get one like this with the dual-core AMD Athlon II P320 processor. There are some out there with single core cpu's like the Intel Celeron and AMD V120 that run much slower. The only thing I recommend is upgrading from 3GB to 8GB RAM.
@shernaj255 Your right. This laptop would not be a good "Gaming" laptop. I use mine for general purpose, mostly email and web browsing. It does play games, it just depends on what games you play. It won't play the latest games, but older games work ok at lower quality settings. I'd recommend a Core i5 laptop with discrete (dedicated) graphics card for real gaming.
@TheMacGeek yea my friend has the same as urs thats why. and yea i was talking about games like gta 4 n those kind. thanx for recommending me 1 i was panning to buy one myself.

Hello, I am positive that I will be getting this for my birthday, but besides that, does this computer seem great for gaming such as Halo PC or Call of Duty MW2? Cuz, it does have ati radeon hd 4250 and 3gb of ram. k thx
To all the people asking about webcams: If you go to HP's website, and go to the "everyday computing" laptops, you can custom build them with exactly the features you want. Some models always have webcams, and some models have optional webcams. For the laptops with optional webcams, it cost's 25 dollars extra to get it with a webcam. Many low end, cheap laptops in stores do not have webcams. Not everyone needs a webcam or wants one. Most high end laptops have one, but not low end.
@Zomb1eX no, there isn't any built-in webcam in this laptop because I didn't need one. You can get it with one if you want. I use a much better USB webcam, the Logitech webcam Pro 9000. It has 720p high definition video recording.
@cloakedrhombusvids that's not a webcam on the top of the lcd display. That's a piece of black plastic covering the hole where they would put a webcam in certain models (Compaq uses the same screen for both models). This laptop can be ordered with or without a webcam. Mine doesn't have one. I checked in control panel, and device manager. No webcam. Just a plastic piece glued over the webcam slot. If it was a webcam, you would actually see the circular camera lens.
I got this laptop and it sucks for gaming.is this laptop not ment to play cod or other games like that on even older games or free games some just dont seem to run good.Is this just something wrong or is urs the same?
@RICKY1155SPONGEBOB The F1 help thingy? what do you mean? If you press F1 in Windows, that will pull up help. If you press fn (function) + F1, you get HP help and support. You can setup up the laptop in the BIOS to use the standard function keys F1 to F11 when you press them, or you can have the laptop use the special function keys like brightness, sound, and the media player buttons. If you want to use the normal F1, press fn+F1 or switch (reverse) the function key in the BIOS.
@Dharg100 No, my laptop doesn't have a webcam. But if you order it on the internet on HP's or Compaq's website, you can get it with or without a webcam. Laptops that have built-in webcams don't have great quality webcams. its better to buy a separate external USB High definition webcam like the logitech webcam pro 9000. The picture quality will be 10 times better.
I love this laptop, but it has many down falls. the case creaks and pops. the battery life is very poor. in high performance you get about a hr. in power saver with the screen turned down maybe around 3hrs. they dont make extended life batteries for this laptop as well so you are stuck with the 3.5hr battery life. and it is also kinda heavy. on the up side it is quick and holds it own against machines double its price. all in all its a good all round laptop.
@Mrscooby242 HP has a 9-cell extended battery on their website that gives you a bit longer life than the 6-cell. I agree, the included 6-cell battery life isn't great, but if you go to Power Options and change the power plan to power saver, you will get more battery life. My laptop doesn't creak or pop when I carry it or open the screen, maybe your laptop hinges are failing. This isn't a laptop for those who need 4+ hours of battery life. I use mine like a desktop, plugged in.
@TheMacGeek the creeking i am talking about comes from the plastic case. the hinges are really solid. i will have to look at getting the 9 cell battery. i have played with the power settings and with tweaking some things i have gotten around 4.5hrs running the battery down to about 14%.
@sydneychristianfan I'm not sure what that means without looking at your laptop in person, but it sounds like your LCD screen on your laptop may be broken, or the laptop's video card or motherboard may be broken. You should return the laptop to where you purchased it from if you still can, or you should take it to a qualified computer repair technician. If you still have your manufacturers warranty, you can use that to get it fixed.
@sydneychristianfan Check the inverter card. It can make the screen flash. Pop the laptop open and check the connections, As well as for burn marks. Compaq series in particular have issues cause some time back HP bought a buttload of faulty chips. I always liked Compaq however and have had no problems. I own a CQ62-238DX as well. Mine is modded however with a P650 CPU, *gb of DDR3, And a one TB HD. I can play games like crysis on med/high settings ok.
@elyk249 Yes, there are speakers in this laptop. Every laptop computer that is made now has built-in speakers. You can plug in louder external speakers as well, through the headphone jack.
@vidgamescool sorry. Thanks for the comment. I get lots of spammers, and sometimes its hard to tell who is and who isn't. Good to see you bought the same laptop, and I hope you enjoy it like I have mine.
@jmezzy101 If it has a webcam, it's on the top of the LCD display screen. My laptop doesn't have a webcam, just an empty spot where it would go if I bought one with a webcam feature. You will know if it has a webcam or not, because you can see the plastic lens where the camera would be.
PLEASE HELP!!! I am 14 and I am looking for a good cheap affordable laptop for school, social, and Gaming. Is this a good First Computer? if not any suggestion?
@TMLTrevor I recommend a laptop with an Intel Core i3 or i5 CPU and a fast dedicated graphics processor. That would be better than what I have.
You can get a decent i3 laptop now for a good price. Just make sure it has a good ATI or Nvidia graphics card in it if you want to play the latest computer games at high detail settings. Otherwise, the built-in Intel graphics will be ok for most games at low to medium graphics settings. Dell, Compaq, Toshiba, it doesn't matter. Just get one you like.
@RyanLee2014 Well, my favorite games that I own and play are= Fallout 3, Guild Wars (like world of warcraft but FREE), Dungeon Siege II, Wolfenstein, Half Life 2, Crysis, Starcraft (original version), Battlefield 2, The Sims 3, Left 4 Dead 2. All these will play on this laptop, but some only at low quality graphics settings (although they are still fun to play at low settings). Half Life 2 and Crysis are the best. I also love Guild Wars because it has free online play.
@bjsocool96 I'm not sure what you mean by "Buttons that you can pop right up". The only buttons on this laptop are the keyboard, and the power button to turn it on.
@NorwegianGamerz no, my laptop doesn't have a camera. only the higher end models have a web camera. If you hold a flashlight into the black window where the camera would normally be, you will see that there is no camera. If your model has a camera, you will see a circle and a lens in the center of the camera. A USB camera only costs about $40 U.S. dollars and is lots better than any laptop built-in camera.
Question!!!!!!!!!!!!! should i get the AMD dual core one or the intel celeron one?? cuz ive heard pros and cons about each. but i need someones honest opinion!! plz help:)
@airsoftbro123 The AMD Dual-Core one is WAY faster than the single-core Intel Celeron. So yea, get the dual-core AMD. You can see benchmark speeds on CPUs at the website cpubenchmark [dot] net. You can see that the Dual-Core AMD Athlon II P320 cpu is way faster than the Intel Celeron 900 cpu that is being shipped with low end laptops now. Also, consider getting 4GB of RAM in your laptop. Some include only 2 or 3gb of RAM.
@airsoftbro123 If you want an even faster laptop than either of those choices, you should go with the new Intel Core i3 cpu. It's way faster than either of those, and will only cost you about $100 to $200 more. Check out Toshiba Satellite C655-S5061 at Bestbuy or your favorite online retailer. It's around $500. It's Way better than mine.
@foundationsorrow I can't post links here. Just search BestBuy for CQ62-238DX and if it doesn't show up, that means its not available. These laptops change and get upgraded on an almost monthly basis. Just get whatever is the newest, latest one, with the Fastest CPU, and largest hard drive you can afford.
@hotboynewyork4 no, there is no num lock button on the laptop keyboard, because there is no numeric keypad on the right side of the keyboard. I use a wireless keyboard with my laptop often, because I like the full size and the extra num pad on the right.
@ssdfhX111 There are no easily removable panels on the bottom to access the cpu and graphics card, so I don't know if you can change them. You may be able to by taking out the motherboard, I don't know.
@whitebub Yes, this laptop is fine for video editing. It as a fairly powerful dual-core AMD CPU and fast RAM, so it can render video quickly, although not as fast as an Intel Core i5 or i7 system can. This laptop accepts up to 8GB of ram in Windows 7 64-bit. You would want lots of Memory (RAM) for video editing, and a fast hard drive.

@TheMacGeek Like ok if I click F1 it will bring up the help menu but I need F1 for gaming . could you possible PM me ?

@TheMacGeek so do this laptop have a webcam
Dharg100 1 year ago

Mrscooby242 1 year ago
@Mrscooby242 HP has a 9-cell extended battery on their website that gives you a bit longer life than the 6-cell. I agree, the included 6-cell battery life isn't great, but if you go to Power Options and change the power plan to power saver, you will get more battery life. My laptop doesn't creak or pop when I carry it or open the screen, maybe your laptop hinges are failing. This isn't a laptop for those who need 4+ hours of battery life. I use mine like a desktop, plugged in.
TheMacGeek 1 year ago
@TheMacGeek the creeking i am talking about comes from the plastic case. the hinges are really solid. i will have to look at getting the 9 cell battery. i have played with the power settings and with tweaking some things i have gotten around 4.5hrs running the battery down to about 14%.

umh..My Laptop Has a blinking screen and when i shut it down the screen turns whtie? what does that mean!!?!
sydneychristianfan 1 year ago
@sydneychristianfan I'm not sure what that means without looking at your laptop in person, but it sounds like your LCD screen on your laptop may be broken, or the laptop's video card or motherboard may be broken. You should return the laptop to where you purchased it from if you still can, or you should take it to a qualified computer repair technician. If you still have your manufacturers warranty, you can use that to get it fixed.
TheMacGeek 1 year ago

You can plug in louder external speakers as well, through the headphone jack.

i have this computer and i cant find the webcam can u help me ?
jmezzy101 1 year ago
@jmezzy101 If it has a webcam, it's on the top of the LCD display screen. My laptop doesn't have a webcam, just an empty spot where it would go if I bought one with a webcam feature. You will know if it has a webcam or not, because you can see the plastic lens where the camera would be.

@GrandTurk09 Get the Intel i3. Ram isn't so important when buying the laptop, you can always add more later to bring it up to 4GB RAM.

PLEASE HELP!!! I am 14 and I am looking for a good cheap affordable laptop for school, social, and Gaming. Is this a good First Computer? if not any suggestion?
TMLTrevor 1 year ago
@TMLTrevor I recommend a laptop with an Intel Core i3 or i5 CPU and a fast dedicated graphics processor. That would be better than what I have.
You can get a decent i3 laptop now for a good price. Just make sure it has a good ATI or Nvidia graphics card in it if you want to play the latest computer games at high detail settings. Otherwise, the built-in Intel graphics will be ok for most games at low to medium graphics settings. Dell, Compaq, Toshiba, it doesn't matter. Just get one you like.

k jus got this badboy for christmas and im gonna buy some games soon any suggestions?
RyanLee2014 1 year ago
@RyanLee2014 Well, my favorite games that I own and play are= Fallout 3, Guild Wars (like world of warcraft but FREE), Dungeon Siege II, Wolfenstein, Half Life 2, Crysis, Starcraft (original version), Battlefield 2, The Sims 3, Left 4 Dead 2. All these will play on this laptop, but some only at low quality graphics settings (although they are still fun to play at low settings). Half Life 2 and Crysis are the best. I also love Guild Wars because it has free online play.

does your camera work? i bought the same pc, im 100% sure. the manual pointed out a camera, but i cant activate it... please help me!
NorwegianGamerz 1 year ago
@NorwegianGamerz no, my laptop doesn't have a camera. only the higher end models have a web camera. If you hold a flashlight into the black window where the camera would normally be, you will see that there is no camera. If your model has a camera, you will see a circle and a lens in the center of the camera. A USB camera only costs about $40 U.S. dollars and is lots better than any laptop built-in camera.

Question!!!!!!!!!!!!! should i get the AMD dual core one or the intel celeron one?? cuz ive heard pros and cons about each. but i need someones honest opinion!! plz help:)
airsoftbro123 1 year ago
@airsoftbro123 The AMD Dual-Core one is WAY faster than the single-core Intel Celeron. So yea, get the dual-core AMD. You can see benchmark speeds on CPUs at the website cpubenchmark [dot] net. You can see that the Dual-Core AMD Athlon II P320 cpu is way faster than the Intel Celeron 900 cpu that is being shipped with low end laptops now. Also, consider getting 4GB of RAM in your laptop. Some include only 2 or 3gb of RAM.
TheMacGeek 1 year ago
@airsoftbro123 If you want an even faster laptop than either of those choices, you should go with the new Intel Core i3 cpu. It's way faster than either of those, and will only cost you about $100 to $200 more. Check out Toshiba Satellite C655-S5061 at Bestbuy or your favorite online retailer. It's around $500. It's Way better than mine.

found on newegg though
foundationsorrow 1 year ago
@foundationsorrow I can't post links here. Just search BestBuy for CQ62-238DX and if it doesn't show up, that means its not available. These laptops change and get upgraded on an almost monthly basis. Just get whatever is the newest, latest one, with the Fastest CPU, and largest hard drive you can afford.

Does It Have A Number Lock Botton?
hotboynewyork4 1 year ago
@hotboynewyork4 no, there is no num lock button on the laptop keyboard, because there is no numeric keypad on the right side of the keyboard. I use a wireless keyboard with my laptop often, because I like the full size and the extra num pad on the right.

ssdfhX111 1 year ago
@ssdfhX111 There are no easily removable panels on the bottom to access the cpu and graphics card, so I don't know if you can change them. You may be able to by taking out the motherboard, I don't know.
TheMacGeek 1 year ago
the battery is fine, watching videos and browsing (not on wifi) it lasts at least 3 and half hours
aordyan 1 year ago
@whitebub Yes, this laptop is fine for video editing. It as a fairly powerful dual-core AMD CPU and fast RAM, so it can render video quickly, although not as fast as an Intel Core i5 or i7 system can. This laptop accepts up to 8GB of ram in Windows 7 64-bit. You would want lots of Memory (RAM) for video editing, and a fast hard drive.
