Dusty Springfield version is so much better than this and is the original. I Don't know why Dusty is no so much famous like him… she is so underrated.

Hey, this is just Elvis´ version of the song. It´s ok. Dusty made the definitive version of this. Dusty´s album "Dusty In Memphis" was a big flop chartwise. It´s only afterwards that the album got the recognition it deserved. But at the time, it was way ahead of its´ time. The album flopped. And now it´s considered as of one the greatest album of all time. Ain´t it funny....
I'm a big fan of Elvis, and of this song, but I don't like his arrangement for this song. If he kept it as a ballad it would have been much better. I'm surprised he didn't. This just seemed to be a throw-away song for him but maybe he had too many ballads and needed a faster song for the show. I know this will always be associated with Dusty Springfield song but does anyone know if this was included on an Elvis album?
@weedman6926 Bullshit. The ballad by Dusty Springfield is considered one of the greatest records of all time (by Rolling Stones list, all others) . This version by Elvis is merely filler. Have some knowledge about music history.

I'm quite sure it was on the Elvis That't The Way It Is album. And yes, it's not one of his best interpretations, really sounds like a filler. One does not do him justice, if one puts his really amazing interpretations on one level with this.

Dusty Springfield, a participant at Sanremo that year, was in the audience when Donaggio performed the song and despite having no awareness of the lyrics' meaning the song moved Springfield to tears. Springfield obtained an acetate recording of Donaggio's song but allowed a year to go by before actively pursuing the idea of herself recording an English version.
This was 1970, Elvis actually started his weight problem in only his final years (about 73 - 77). I think it had to do with the breakup of his marriage and family. He was a real family man, you see, and he was hurt badly when he saw it torn apart. So yeah, whenever I think of Elvis, I picture a young, slender and energetic man as that´s who he really was in his prime. :)

It's so sad to see Elvis in his later years. He was truly The King, and no one will ever take his place. But if you listen to the you tube video "Elvis Presley I Need You So" you'll see just how much deterioration had taken place by 1970. Those drugs, prescribed by a doctor, really did a job on him. He was a fine, decent young man who was used by opportunists who didn't really care about him - they just wanted money. His story is a sad one.
@Susana1027 Susana this is after 1970 ... Elvis got sick much later between 74-77 and he had many physical conditions of which most people don't know. Yes the medication made it worse, but he was genuinely ill. People just think it was recreational drugs which is the sad part. The man was in agony. And yes he was a good human being, generous in spirit as well as open handed and sadly used by those near him.

My heart has always gone out to Elvis. I think he had a truly spiritual side that hasn't been discussed much. It seems that he was like the apostle Paul who said that he didn't do the good things he wanted to do but did the bad things that he didn't want to do. Like most of us.

Hey, this is just Elvis´ version of the song. It´s ok. Dusty made the definitive version of this. Dusty´s album "Dusty In Memphis" was a big flop chartwise. It´s only afterwards that the album got the recognition it deserved. But at the time, it was way ahead of its´ time. The album flopped. And now it´s considered as of one the greatest album of all time. Ain´t it funny....

I'm a big fan of Elvis, and of this song, but I don't like his arrangement for this song. If he kept it as a ballad it would have been much better. I'm surprised he didn't. This just seemed to be a throw-away song for him but maybe he had too many ballads and needed a faster song for the show. I know this will always be associated with Dusty Springfield song but does anyone know if this was included on an Elvis album?

@weedman6926 Bullshit. The ballad by Dusty Springfield is considered one of the greatest records of all time (by Rolling Stones list, all others) . This version by Elvis is merely filler. Have some knowledge about music history.

@MyDreamside No one in music seriously considers Elvis' version better. Everyone knows this is one of the top 100 songs of all time as recorded by Dusty Springfield, it will always be her song. Unless you don't know anything about music, and in that case you're wasting everyone's time.

Charting at #1 in the UK it went to #4 in the U.S. Ultimately considered one of the greatest records of all time she became a major star in the U.S. In 1969 her album DUSTY IN MEMPHIS became & remains a landmark album. In 1970 Elvis recorded a U.S. single version as a tribute to Dusty (it went to No. 11 but was not on any album) with PATCH IT UP written by Eddie Rabbitt on the flip side.

@karlarvalle the original song is "Io che non vivo senza te", by Pino Donaggio, who sang it in Sanremo Festival in 1965. Dusty Springfield, a participant at Sanremo that year, was in the audience when Donaggio performed the song and despite having no awareness of the lyrics' meaning the song moved Springfield to tears. Springfield obtained an acetate recording of Donaggio's song but allowed a year to go by before actively pursuing the idea of herself recording an English version.

This was 1970, Elvis actually started his weight problem in only his final years (about 73 - 77). I think it had to do with the breakup of his marriage and family. He was a real family man, you see, and he was hurt badly when he saw it torn apart. So yeah, whenever I think of Elvis, I picture a young, slender and energetic man as that´s who he really was in his prime. :)

I'm proud to be old enough to remember him being alive, although I was just a kid! My mom loved him and I remember hearing on the radio in the car that he died. My mom was so sad!

witnessing the tears in his eyes when he passed, i'll never forget.
i had been too young back than, but felt the energy, that something serious had happened.
more grown up i remember when he bursted out in tears again on the 8th dec. 1980, while
we were sitting in his car listening to the radio.
i was born 1969 on a certain special day.
part of me died on august, 17th 1977.

It's so sad to see Elvis in his later years. He was truly The King, and no one will ever take his place. But if you listen to the you tube video "Elvis Presley I Need You So" you'll see just how much deterioration had taken place by 1970. Those drugs, prescribed by a doctor, really did a job on him. He was a fine, decent young man who was used by opportunists who didn't really care about him - they just wanted money. His story is a sad one.

@Susana1027 Susana this is after 1970 ... Elvis got sick much later between 74-77 and he had many physical conditions of which most people don't know. Yes the medication made it worse, but he was genuinely ill. People just think it was recreational drugs which is the sad part. The man was in agony. And yes he was a good human being, generous in spirit as well as open handed and sadly used by those near him.

My heart has always gone out to Elvis. I think he had a truly spiritual side that hasn't been discussed much. It seems that he was like the apostle Paul who said that he didn't do the good things he wanted to do but did the bad things that he didn't want to do. Like most of us.

Elvis had Lisa-marie, his dad and he loved his fans very much he wouldn't mess his life up for nobody but wanted to keep goin despite all the challenges because he loved those two and he was also planning on marrying his fiance ginger at the time he suddenly found unconscious! He was going on tour and flying out that evening when he was found dead!

elvis didn't start really deteriorating until 1974/75 and onwards when he stopped his daily exercise regiment that he started before all his concerts.
but i do agree with you about the leaches(col. tom parker and the memphis mafia) who latched on to elvis because they knew it was an easy life for them and never let go until it cost him his life
