What I really do is hold it at 1700 for 10 minutes. I have recently been able to get my kiln to go the 1750 and I hold that for 10 min also. I have found that glossy raku glazes work better at these temps than the mat ones. Thank you for your comments.
Mary, this is fascinating and the ONLY answer to my rural location vs. formal instruction. Question for you: In the narrative, you state to have the kiln at 1700 and hold for 10minutes. However, when demonstrated, you take the beads out at 3 minutes. Which is correct? Thanks for all you've shared with us. Take care,
