@SmokingBarrelMusic It's a bunch of samples with the direct SD2.0 snare and it's "mid" distance room mics. A lot of it has to do with the other instruments and the pacing of the track. There's space for it in this mix. I've tried using the exact same snare setup in another mix and it didn't work. In general slower paced stuff like this is much easier to mix.
Man, when you put the greener the knob "wet mix" is all the way to right.. i put the exact same preset but i got a dirty and noisy sound without definition, whats the problem?
@aris17561 Yeah the sound is a lot thicker with 4 tracks. Tuning is Drop A. I can't find where the patch saved on my pc but the settings are in the picture.

@decapitatedrathead I think the recto is the best model in Pod Farm. I'd still prefer Revalver's but Pod Farm's is still good and not as plastic sounding as some of it's other models.
Do you use line6 products? Like Pocket Pod or other? Could you make a video how to squeeze some good tones out of such devices? Because they sound dull and muddy when recorded using their direct outputs.
@ZychuZychu I used to use a Line 6 toneport UX1. It did the job. I mainly used it with other amp sims though, not Pod Farm. A Toneport or Pocket Pod with Revalver will get you decent results for sure, providing you're using a good guitar with good pickups and (very important) fresh strings!
@fearcomplexmusic What soundcard/interface do you use now? And does the recording/sound quality differ from various soundcards, or will it remain the same no matter which ones you use?
@Dimeist I'm using an M-audio Profire 2626 now. I used a Line 6 Toneport previously. There's a difference for sure but it's not huge. I would say a good guitar with good pickups and a fresh set of strings is more important.
I personally find that boosting it from the outside (guitar--------booster-------line in or whatever-------pc) yields better results. Of course I use a booster that essentially ends with a line level signal one way or another, like a multieffects pedal on the tube screamer mode.
@peppasgeorge Hey yeah that's how I do it. The cool thing about Revalver is being able to load your own impulse so you don't have to add an impulse loader to the chain like you need to do with most of the other sims.
beautiful guitar tone!! I hate my final mix, now i try the waves ssl bus comp with your setting!! I have a lot to learn from you, your works are really tight and punchy!!
@666SeeR999 The bass is a Squier jazz 5 string with Softube's bass amp room amp sim. There's also a distorted bass track (only the mids, lows removed with a hi-pass filter) in there. Mixed so it's not popping out of the mix but just so you notice it's absence when muted.
Sounds great. Revalver and lecto for dual rectifier sounds, probably amplitube for soldano, what about diezel, Marshall, vox, engl, fender. I would love to find the best sims for each amp as well as the best impulse for each sim.
@lilmrdr For 6505 and Mesa tones I think Revalver is the best out there. It's Diezel and JSX models are good also. Amplitube's strongest models are it's jcm 800 and Jet City 100w in my opinion.
@fearcomplexmusic I have a couple questions for you. Are you using the SSL channel on each track to eq the guitars and maybe get some console saturation or are you doing all eq'ing in revalver? Are you using a different compressor on each track like a La3a to compress the guitars. Are you using Decapitator or SPL Twin Tube after guitars or on a bus? Are you using other things on the two bus like a Pultec eqp1a and a limiter like t racks or using ozone? Are you using any tape sat like Kramer MPX?
@lilmrdr The guitar tone is coming from Revalver only, no additional EQ. No compressors or saturation on the guitars either in this case. It's just Revalver & impulse til it gets to mastering, where I use Izotope Ozone.
Is this 6 or 7 string ESP? If 6, you must be using 13 gauges for drop A flat? I put 12s for drop B flat, and it is a bit stiff... And great job, as always.
I can never get good compression on my snares and the overtone ring on the snares as well from SSD. It always sounds like pops and can never hear the real sound of the drum without being drowned out in my mix. I know I'm doing something wrong so I've been trying to fix it ever since mixing different ways. I can never make it sound similar to the snare from the song Smoke Signals - For The Fallen Dreams.
@cobfan25 Yeah I know what you mean about the pop sound. I find not cutting the ring from the snare can help avoid that. I used to EQ the snare solo'd too much, I'd cut the ring til it sounded like a good "clean" drum that would sound like a monster on it's own but would be just a lifeless thump in the mix with no character. I'm not using EQ or compressing the direct mics now. They sound more natural but weak on their own. The compressed room mics brings the punch and weight.
@DanShusterCM Sure. The kick is a blend of Slate kick 10, 15 and a free sample of what I think is a Tama kick I downloaded online. The snare is 3 different superior snares combined and the 'mid' distance room mics. Only the snare is going to those room mics, no other shells or cymbals. The room mics are then compressed heavily and sent to a reverb. So the 3 snare drums are dry and the ambience is coming only from the room mics. I have a snare & kick video planned where I'll go in to more detail.
@beefyriffs Yeah I had overlooked this model for some reason. I think it's more dependent on being matched with a suitable impulse than some of the other models so it's not that great sounding with any ol impulse. These 1on-pres impulses seem to be a good match. The tubescreamer also plays a huge role. I usually keep the volume at halfway on the TS with other models but here pushing it to 1 or 2 o clock really makes all the difference.
@Farewell2Life Hey F2L I haven't forgotten about it and will have it up shortly. It'll be better than something I could have put a month ago anyway because I've worked on my snares and have been getting better results since.
How are you getting that snare to sound so snappy? I can't manage to do it in SD 2.0. Or are you using Metal Foundry?
