I find this immensely intriguing. I'm not a synesthete, at least not in the way this video talks about, though I know I perceive things a little differently. I've always just called it hallucinations, though I know the things I see (sometimes hear, too) are not real, they're still there for me. For example, if I think about a cat, I might see a cat wandering around the house for a while. It isn't real, but it's there. Maybe I'm part of that other category it talks about.
OMG i finally found somebody that does that too! i fell it in my back when i smell the frebreeze we used when i moved out of my house the first time.
my alphabet has personalities as well as the number line. all single digit even numbers are girls except for 6 hes gay. (I'm serious) also my memory's and thoughts are referenced by by colors I feel in my back and the back of my neck....I think its funny because I am a Leo and the Leos main body part is his back.
- Sounds for inaudible actions (example: mute television and hear swooping sounds, clanking, or whatever sound that would match what was being seen but no voices)
- Discolored dots that blip in and out of focus, reacting to certain thoughts (seem to present themselves as 'yes' or 'no' )
@tyniehawk i'm sorry. mine's was never that bad. i just have the letters and numbers with colors/gender and music with colors and images. and sometimes certain music sounds have like distinct textures that in my mind i can like feel on my fingertips, but i don't know if that counts.
@facenuggetz14 Oh that sounds very interesting. I'm sure it does count? It should all count. Even when our thoughts create pictures in our minds, which is something everyone does.. that counts I think. I celebrate it the more I discover it about myself and I obviously took your comment in the wrong way. I think it is something cool but I also think there might be a link between this and schizophrenia.
I really hope the lecturer produces some conclusive MRIs and CAT scans that illustrate aberrant cross-wiring betwixt the assigned regions of the brain that promulgate such a response, because right now, based on the testimonials of the individuals thus far (especially the young woman), it sounds like raw horseshit to me. Of course, this is just my premature, purely biased emotional response to this...
It is amazing how senses can transpose like that ! For instance whenever I hear the word 'Cheney' I smell fresh dogshit, and I'm not even a US citizen! I know I haven't trodden in any Cheneys earlier in the day when I walked my dogs, so I guess it's just a trick of the mind...
B.S. Mondays are so white. Where do you people get red?

Remember this "Synesthesia is the blending or mixing of senses."

wowow im sooo jelous ive always wanted synesthesia!! i think its like the coolest thing ever! i think that the people with it are truly gifted!!

Am i to believe this is saying that there isn't actual proof that synethesia is the result of cross wiring? I didn't realize this was just a theory.

i truly do feel bad for those without synesthesia, it makes things more fun! :D

@facenuggetz14 i disagree. I am on disability because growing up with these images separated me from others and caused a lot of mental harm.

I believe one should never trust his emotions to make judgement. One should assume everything as horseshit per se.

Very well done, and very interesting and thought provoking.
For me, a better analogy, I think, would be how certain smells can trigger a strong memory recollection, a certain 'feel'.

Hehe, my mondays are red as well. So are thursdays and sundays. Tuesdays are black, wednesdays are beige, fridays blue and saturdays are yellow.
Some numbers and letters also have colours and textures.
I also have the spatial thingy with numbers and weeks/months/years etc.
Synesthesia is so wonderfully weird. =)
