I see its a tad faster than the old straight 6 I have. Not by too much though. Whats the hp rating for it?

@TheDamnDecent No its not. The sport is MAYBE .3 of a second faster to 60 than the regular C280. theres a minute difference between the regular 97 C280 and the sport version. The sport version was basically a body kit and rims and suspension. The engines are exactly the same, in the 97 year.

Theres something about the old W202 C280 that just a few people know about.

There a two different kinds of Engines in it.

6/93-5/97 It was a R6 Engine 193 HP 270 Nm

6/97-5/00 It was a V6 Engine 197 HP 265 Nm

so long s*ckers. I would prefer the R6 Engine, better acceleration...

@Robert30632 Actually, the straight 6 had a rating of 197hp. Says in my manual. The 98 C280 with the V6, from everything I read, says 194hp.

@h0ub0uz haha. I guess he hasnt been in a C280 :) That light failure light wouldnt be from the rear center brake light would it? If so, thats an easy fix. Also, if its not cold out, I put water in my windscreen fluid just to turn that light off cuz Im too cheap and lazy to buy some. I never use it anyway haha.

@BlackAstonMartin Yea but your perfomance and fuel economy wont be greatly effected by it. Iv done 0-60s with the tank near dry and full, there isnt a huge difference. Nothing noticeable at least. I also have the same car, just an older model. Still a W202.

I dont Think so...Ive got a E36 325i and a Mercedes w202 c280 R6 . The Bmw beats the c280,cause of its lower weight.(310kg)

the C280 from 1993-1996 had a straight six with 193hp, it was changed with the facelift in 1997 and replaced with a V6 and 197hp. Mercedes also added some technical things like double ignition, three valves per cylinder etc. Even the C36 AMG had a straight six, until it was replaced with the C43 V8 in 1997. ;)

Not bad, exact same acceleration times as my e320. i think urs had the exact same transmission cuz the gears shift at the same points (1-36mph, 2-60 mph, 3-95 mph, etc)

1998-2000 models had a 2.8 V6, similar specs as the straight 6, though less torque and not as prone to head gasket and wiring harness problems.
