what a tune takes me back to Franklyns lounge Bellshill Scotland The DJ in that place was well fit great voice and played some of the best music of my youthful years he pioneered a lot of great tunes before any other Djs ... Hence the name Seansangels ..I know his name was Sean ( believe we got called this as we used to congragate by his DJ booth) anyone now if hes still a DJ wink wink ! Gooooood Times never forgotten !
Awesome Pop music from a band that knew it's stuff.. Not unheard of . Just not as well known . I've owned this CD since the first week of it's release here in the States . Unfortunately the only airplay it received was "Strange Kind Of Love" I blame the marketers for not promoting it. This Album should have outsold nearly everything else that was produced that year...
@sooperdoopershedboy Thank you very much for the heads up : ) Never heard them before . listening now . and I'm definitely liking what I'm hearing.... Good stuff for sure !
Love the album "Strange kind of love" If ever there's an album to chill out to it's this one. Another under-rated band thanks to Radio One not giving these bands more airplay. Love and Money, Blue Nile, The Adventures from Ireland, Goodbye Mr McKenzie and a good few more. More interested in american rubbish like New Kids on the Block and other awful pap.
Could someone PLEASE explain why the 80's are so amazing?! I mean honestly, I just can't even believe that a decade could be this good!!!!!!!!!!! What the heck ever happened to music like this that was actually good?! <3
Estimated friend, if you want to listen again this song and an endless number of successes of the love I suggest you to visit Radio MUSICA PARA MIMOS - looks for his direction URL in Google ( search Musica para Mimos in Google)-. best romantic music of all the times in Internet, is great, is very good ...!!!
What's the name of the lead singer? This album is great!! What else has he sung, and what are they calling themselves now? I'd like to get all of his work!! His voice still gives me goosebumps.
@CameoWalkin have a listen to his solo album - My Thrawn Glory, it's superb. He has more but that's the only one I've got beside Love and Money's "Strange Kind of love"
Amazing song, happy memories for this Geordie lad working in Glasgow back in the late 80s when this came out. Great people, great city. This tune and Up Escalator were their best for me
Wow!! These guys are unknown classics. The music is well played & produced, the lyrics & vocals are classy. These guys have smooth & natural feel to their music. Awesome!!
WAAAH !!! Listen to this music, what a voice and hear the Bass, those guys are killers, real artists, come back men and kick ass to all the singers today where the real music goes.
FANTASTIC Artists, music like this is eternel, thanck you LOVE & MONEY
The album "Strange Kind Of Love" by Love And Money is brilliant. It's one of the most incredible albuns that i heard in my life . The James Grant voice is beautiful. The musics arrangements give us the 80's sensations. I close my eyes and i almost feel the wind of that time. I never saw anything like this in music after. It''s a masterpiece. I'm a collector from Brazil, cause my english is not good, but i have all the original Cds by Love and Money, Support the artist please!
Always loved this (and Jocelyn Square) - have both on vinyl and they sound superb - sound just seems to ooze out of the speakers (much better than if digitally stored!)
Spent 2 fantastic hours at The Glasgow Royal Concert Hall last night watching these guys perform all songs from Strange Kind of Love and Dogs in The Traffic albums. What a blast from the past and they sound as good as they always did. First gig in 16 years and lets hope its not the last. Nice one James and the boys!
i wish that there would be some kind of real twilight zone were i could walk into the 80's whenever i would love to. And when something would go wrong with the
gate to the present, so that i would would be stuck in the 80's, i wouldn't mind
that at all, because i would have no problem to do my life over again.
The best song, the best singer, the best bassist, best production. When I think of the late eighties; this is my soundtrack. My song of the decade (not the greatest video) I just wish I could rewind - start again. Same people - done differently.
Pardon me as I lose myself in time for 5 minutes.I will return in a melancholy dream
@44madhatter Simple Minds are amazing & under-appreciated by American ears... I would suggest other bands but Simple Minds are un-touchable. Check out Japan's last 2 albums though. Cheers to having good taste my friend!!
Saw James Grant at the Tollbooth in stirling a couple of weeks ago, and he's still as good as ever. Some of his new stuff is pretty good, although you can tell he is a little bitter how they didn't make it bigger back in the 80's/90's. I quite agree!
If it hadn't been for SAW songs clogging up the charts in 1989 this would have probably made the Top 40 (it made #45) and they'd have appeared on Top Of The Pops.
Brilliant....out at the same time as Hipsway,Fruits of Passion,Simple Minds,Aztec Camera,Strawberry switchblade and the Bluebell...Great growing up in Glasgow in the mid 80's
damn right. I spent 7 years in Aberdeen in the 80's and all of these bands got so much attention up there... still think these bands are criminally under recognised. A soundtrack to a sometimes mis-spent youth. Timeless.
Album was produced by Gary Katz over in NYC, who did all the Steely Dan albums, also features Jeff Porcaro drumming on all tracks, and a sneaky clavinet cameo by Donald Fagen.
can anyone out there remember a track around the same era as this (great) track? seem to remember the title was" obsession just like calvin klein" ...... would welcome any pointers as to the artist . thanks
the track was by the duo Act called ' Snobbery And Decay"- featuring that lyric. Wrongly -only reached no. 60 in May 87. featuring Claudia Brucken from the legandary Propaganda.
How can you not love James' voice? So suave, so smooth, so resonant! Those low tones are just amazing--the aural equivalent of dark coffee and warm maple syrup... He's right up there with the best: Martin Fry, Iva Davies, Tony Hadley, Bryan Ferry--the classic purveyors of swank 80s pop.
This band's sound changed quite a bit from album to album--funk rock, then jazzy pop, then finally alt-country. I think their best work is in that middle phase, represented by this album.
I'm one of the few dutch people who did know love and money, and it's a shame that they mever made it here in holland, because i think that they are just as great as level 42, simple minds, and more great bands from ther eighties.
Anyway, i only had the song Halleluiah man, and thanks to the internet and youtube i finaly found more stuf of these guy's after way more than 20 years.
Man, they should release their music again, because i'm sure that even today lot's of people would love it!
Isn't that just magnificent. And he plays it like it's easy. Brilliant finger style. I could never do that but then again I'm just an old punk. That back pickup sound is just to die for. What kind of amp are you using my friend?
