What impressed me was that the spider nabbed that fly without even falling of the wall! Typically it will make a flying leap and they'll both roll around struggling on the floor for a minute. But he just grabbed it ha ha, he's got skills. ;-D
I've seen most jumping spiders use that retracting motion. My guess is it's tethered to a web it lays down before striking and just gives it a quick yank back.
Well, I've had quite a number of jumping spiders as pets over the years (one on my desk right now ;-P ) and although they do put out a safety line, nearly always when the spider attacks *vertically* on a wall like that it winds up on the ground with it's prize. I don't recall seeing one grab a fly and keep it's footing so adeptly before on a vertical wall.
Of course if it's catching a bug on a flat horizontal surface, sure.
Jumping spiders are awesome..the hunting stealth of a cat!
