not bad but the smoke in the background stands out too much and doesn't blend with the surroundings, also the sound effects of explosions are far too big for the visuals.
yea u guys got a good point about the smoke at the back (being too dark), and i'd change it, but i think i lost the scene file. If i find it again, tho, i'll correct it. Recently, however, i've been working more in 3d with Cinema 4d than with After Effects.
Nice! Very good for being new to digital effects! One thing you could do would be to make the smoke (back-left) more grey because it's supposed to behind alot of smoke and in the distance, so you'd want it to be less saturated. Just adding some greying tint might do the trick! :)
I know how to use after effects and think you've done a good job. You need more smoke though otherwise the stuff at the back doesn't look like it really is there. Maybe the camera could pan around the picture too by maybe zooming in x 1.35 or something and moving the camera from top right to bottom left and changing the tilt a little or something like that.
i liked it! looks really good, if you look at the flare in the b/g with the smoke coming off it, it looks a little to clear, maybe turn the opacity down a bit ot blur it? i dunno, i think maybe its even been layered about your main fog later. It looks like it needs to be faded out a bit more! thats my only critisism though!
adobe after effects is not something you simply "pick up" it is a complicated piece of software, but with some time you'll get the hang of it, it can do amazing things. I would advise you to visit creativecow . net they should be very helpfull in tutorials and the forums.
Ok, i watched several, which seemed to do it in pretty much the same way, and i found that Therapix had a great tutorial on it. (just do a search for "Therapix" in youtube, and it should be on that page. That one is a lightsaber tutorial for After Effects. Lemme look for something about laser fire, or c if i could think of a solution myself.
ok lol sry i accidentally pressed remove to the comment instead of reply. i looked around the internet and couldn't find anything about laser fire on the internet, so i went into After Effects and played around a bit. I found that you could get an okay laser fire using a lightning effect. (i'll continue this in the next comment cause its too long)
In the effects and presets window on the right hand side of the screen, type in lightning. Use a horizontal lightning effect, and reduce the turbulence and forking both to zero. Then go to core settings, and increase the core radius to however wide you want the laser to be. Then, you can use keyframes to move it in your video. Tell me if that works, or if you need more help.
I actually just watched a very helpful tutorial on how to generate lightsabers in After Effects. Lemme find it... I'll also try to watch a few and i'll tell you the ones that are most helpful. Hold on a few mins. I'll look into the laser fire also.
(I had to make this into 2 comments cause it was too long.) Detonationfilms has a great website for effects (many of which are free). To put them into a video clip, you can use many different blending methods, such as add, screen, etc. What are you having trouble with in After Effects, because i could try my best to help
well, i mainly learned from tutorials i found on the internet, and from trial and error. for the effects, i used some effects from detonationfilms, and i used some effects from the Action Movie Essentials pack. For sound effects, i used the Sony Pictures Sound Effects Volumes 1-5. You can find sound effects on the net if you just do a search through google. Fog was also added from the Action Movie Essentials pack.
it turned out pretty good. I does not look like a picture at all. You did a nice job!
One question: I got Adobe after effects but somehow when I try to import video from the camera or another folder it closes itself. Do you know what could be the reason? Thanks for your help!! Looking forward to see more of your work.

The column of smoke in the background lacks atmospheric density. In other words it is too dark while the background is foggy

You should remove the smoking thing in the upper left corner, because it's way too opaque and stands out too much.
Otherwise, excellent work. 4/5
