eastie3peastie; one horse at my barn used to do that. You just need to practice your canter on the right side until he gets it. If he doesn't, don't let him canter on the wrong side. Trot him and start again.!
@xmelxridesxponiesx my horse was lazy in the school, i stopped nagging lol and that was the turning point ;) i would ask once, he didn't respond so i used my stick behind my leg, then i would ease off when he made the transition, if he broke back i would push again and use stick if no response again, soon he was making transitions of a single leg aid and was going foreward with no more nagging ;)
I need to know how to do this in a smaller ring. The ring we have is pretty small and I don't think I could make a figure eight this size in mine. Also, my horse tends to only pick up the left lead! I want to know how to change that. Please respond, thanks!
@eastie3peastie my riding instructor taught me to push the horses hind quarters out towards the ege of an area of what ever you ride in and have the horses head facing right to encourage the horse to strike out on the right lead and using a dressage whip to put pressure on his hind quarters and using the right leg to ask for the canters :)
what would you do after doing this to teach the flying change? if your horse is doing well at this ive been doing this like once or twice a week when i do flat work for about a month

trying this tomorrow! :) I'm tried of the horse I'm leasing pick up the wrong lead so I was hoping flying lead change could help that.
