HA, i remember this game and "approaching torii in the sea", but couldn't remember the title. now i found it. maybe that's just nitpicking, but why is the red door blue, lol?
I had the Amstrad CPC version which had no music, and whenever you entered a new room, a explosion-like sound would be heard! I also remember a glitch where you could only defeat enemies on the left side of the screen with a low punch!
This game has secret rooms i remember. I've never found out what was the catch for getting into one but sometimes during the play certain hole would appear in the ceiling and you would get in that secret room which is different from the others and ninjas were tougher... anyways, great game, nice memories ... :)
Was anyone else reminded of this game when watching kill bill vol 1? Specifically the blue room when she's fighting the crazy 88. I haven't seen it in a while but I remember there is a quick and quiet electronic riff right as it starts.
This game is good on all systems. I used to play it on C-64 and ZX Spectrum. Atari 800 version is quite close to this one. There are also those remakes for the Amiga and ST. But man, this music - owns them all... well, it's Commodore 64...
The first video game I was hooked on. I remember sitting at school, tapping my toes, ready to come back home to play this. The music was epic, very funky and very cool transitions. Also first game I finished ;)
This game reminds me of leafing through well loved copies of 'Ninja' magazine, pining for a sword. Now you can buy swords at the mall for a weeks worth of allowance. Gah, I was born 20 years too early.
Probably the first video game I've ever played. My dad had a collection of C 64 games from his college days and let me play them when I was 4 since I was too poor to afford an NES that the "cool kids" had. Thanks for uploading!
Some place the music going to be slowed and there are new type of ninjas apear. Its also usually happen when you leave a screen and try to get back into the same room you find a different there.I dont know how this weird bug ca nexist i na c64 game. Try it i guarantee you've never seen such an intresting bug in a computer game mostly not in c64 games because it's a toatal weird hidden game in a game that you can never find if you dont know how to use the bug.
You can go through the walls on this way: Duck on the edge (where the door meet with the floor) of the black door (that you normaly use to go lower) at any place where you can find one for example in acuma's chamber. Than sudenly stand up from ducking and run to the wall behind you (its work only the wall that behind you) and if your character hit 2 in the air its a good sign its mean it will work) you just can step through the wall. AND NEVER BE THE SAME GAME its weird like a paralel universe.
Did you know that there are a bug in the game and you can go through walls ? In this way you can play this as lomng as you want since once you went through a wall the game crash and generate levels randomly (instead of some intresting graphic effect) and generating new type of foes (ninjas thus takes 5 times more damage or constanly kick like the hell) and the only bad thing about it you wont find healing idols anymore...
This was the game I was trying to find the name of for ages!
The other name of a game I'm trying to find out still is one where you were a karate guy and you fought others whilst walking through screens. And I remember there was a screen where you walked next to a water fall, through a building, and a forest, desert etc. It looked similar to exploding fist.
Thanks for your reply. I found it after ages of looking around. I find it interesting that so many ppl remember the same, certain points in video games.
still got this;i used to like watching that albatros in the background go accross the screen..the whole palace seemed like a big paper lantern in my imagination then
Loved this game. It was fun trying to sneak up and one-shot kill the baddies (it was basically a red light/green light game -- just had to watch if their eyes were open).
Is it just me or did the player here get ridiculously lucky draws for enemies?
I liked this game, but the ending was kind of dumb. They could have have a better ending that a screen with a flashing border that said winner and the ninja jumping up and down with joy.
@RoderickStrong True, but it was a budget game, so I really wouldn't have expected anything more elaborate. Still a decent game for the price, hell it was a lot better than a lot of modern day games where they put all the emphasis on graphics and the games would by abysmal in terms of gameplay (cough Call of Duty games cough)
Hey the composer is called Rob Hubbard a legend of the c64 ...you can find the original and great remixes of it at a site called RKO the def giude to C64 music...google it for endless amounts of great music!
Same here, I remember getting to the top level and then wandering what to do next. I thought there was some secret door on the top level to find the princess. So I never completed the game because I just kept fighting everyone until I got bored.
Looks as if the C64 version was pretty similar to the Atari version in one respect- they were as easy as heck to complete after you'd done it once. I notice you didn't use the "cheat" of leaving the room, then coming back in so that your thrown weapons were in more convenient (random) places to collect them.
MAN! I had totally forgotten about this game until I saw this! You have NO IDEA how many ninjas I drew when I was a kid, based on inspiration from this game. :D
OMG I used to have this game bootlegged for my Atari 8-bit, back in the days when disk drives were considered top-of-the-line gear. Wow...total blast from the past.
Ew... so you have to bring the idols back to TORII and it says "Winner". I always reached Akuma's chamber and thought the game has no end... like SuperKungFu on VCS2600. O_o
I disagree. I used to have the 8-bit Atari version. Even though the C64s sound chip is better in a lot of ways, the Atari Ninja music is better. Don't know why, maybe the Atari's extra sound channel- 4 vs 3- made a difference. The Atari version also had better graphics. Course, this doesn't "prove" either machine was better, I suspect that the Atari version was just done by people who knew the machine well, Sculptured Software.
You think that's bad... I had cassette games for my Atari 8-bit that regularly took 13-15 minutes to load. Ace of bloody Aces took 25 minutes to load on tape (probably because it was originally developed with the disk-based US market in mind).
When the badguys move forward it reminds me of watching south park

I had to have the throwing stars, knifes were not good enough ;)
I saw this game on a £2.99 rack (three quid for a game - lol) and thought I'd give it a try - nightmare. Got my moneys worth though ;)

One of the first games I played on C64 ...
... ON TAPE!!!!!
Unless it would just crash, it would take about 3-4 minutes to load. Tell that to somebody today and you feel like a caveman!
Remember that i prefered stars and got mighty pissed off whenever the daggers wouldn't hit or if i'd fall through a door.
Shit, we're getting old!
