You should see the first issue of the comic book. Not only does it roll call every single character, but they all look exactly like the toys, even Ratchet and Ironhide.
Always liked the detail that went into the transformations (though it's obvious to me now after all these years it was to show off how the toys transformed). Also liked how spread out the Autobots were when driving vs. the long line that dominated later episodes.
This is one of the most accurated transformation sequence in the show. This time, the animators really did their homework. Extra points for the very well detailed Wheeljack's transformation.
0:27 I always liked how Prime's cab shifted when he took off. I can't explain why it always stuck out in my mind other than I grew up around 18 wheelers, and can tell you that cab over trucks like that do that when you take off. Points for realism. :-)
Cliff Jumper was like:"Fuck it I'ma transform anyway even if he don't call me!"( seriously, why is this the only footage on Youtube that I found where I can hear Jazz speak?)
@Trickycandyfloss - it made sense to kill him. If no Autobot died in the film it would have made the Autobot's look impervious to defeat. And of all the Autobot's in the 1st movie Jazz was the most easily disposed of - Ratchet is a medic so killing him off doesn't make sense, Ironhide has extremely hard armor and is a weapon specialist, Optimus can't die without coming back, which defeats the purpose, and Bee is a main character. Jazz was just OP's 2nd. Not important (so to speak)
The voice change is because shortly after the 1986 movie, his voice actor, Scatman Crothers, passed away. (In Seasons 3 and 4, Jazz doesn't have any lines.) They killed him because, after Bumblebee and Prime, they felt he would be the most missed. :(
@Originalman320 The killing thing was about the new movie. Someone asked why they changed his voice actor and got killed in the '07 movie, so I explained about Scatman Crothers, then I explained why the new movie people thought it was okay to kill him off. Sorry to have confused you!
@ModernkidR35 - lol. That's what it's for XD The 1st 3 episodes were made specifically to sell the toys, after they discovered those episodes were received so well they made the rest of G1
You know what, I think they reference Jazz's transformation at 0:27 for the movie. That scene where those S-7 dudes were chasing the Autobots and Prime ordered them to roll out.
Basically, this scene is almost perfect; Cliffjumper is not called, guess he just jump in & followed behind Prowl for some action; just one mistake, 1st scene when all Autobots are standing still, you can clearly see Ironhide, but when Sunstreaker tranformed, beside him was Ratchet but Jazz called Ironhide, so damn producers got Ironhide minivan & Ratchet ambulance van confused again, otherwise everybody is there, except Cliffjumper not called, didn't see Mirage and Ironhide(mistaked) transform
got him, got him, need him, got him....

@transfan24 Jazz survived the 1986 movie. But as you noted, the Scatman had passed away during the making of the 3rd season.

I always wonder who is in 2nd-in-command? One episode says it's Jazz, then Ironhide, than Ultra Magnus.
DarkknightChris 2 years ago
It was never made very clear in the cartoon who was second in command, but it was in fact Prowl =D Whom I love.
ModernkidR35 2 years ago
if i'm not wrong, on earth was jazz, in space was ultra magnus
maxtergundam 2 years ago
I'm late here, but it's shared command between Jazz, Ironhide, and Prowl. Jazz is my choice though, I mean, he got to call the names.

thats sad. he didnt call cliffjumper and yet he still transforms. I think hes retarded

Actually, in MMTMTE Part 1& 2, we also see Ratchet, Huffer, and Brawn.
Cliffjumper probably transformed because he was itching for some action, and he didn't care if didn't get called.
