Re. the lyrics. I think she sings 'No-one hears my silent prayer' here.I think the Byrds version has it as 'No-one hears my silent tread' (to rhyme with 'Dead')
I remember hearing this version of the song in the early 1990's, when I worked for a time at an espresso bar. "THIS MORTAL COIL" is actually a production concept rather than a specific band. DO you happen to know who the actual vocalists were on this track?
@AlienXSVideo Thank you for that information. I've always thought this was the most devastatingly brilliant arrangement and performance of the song. I wonder if they ever did a video?
continued.. died at Hiroshima that was ten years ago I am a girl of seven Dead children do not grow. First my hair caught fire then my eyes burnt out I became a handful of ashes blown away by the wind. I don't wish anything for myself for a child who is burnt to cinders cannot even eat sweets. I'm knocking at your doors aunts and uncles, to get your signatures so that never again children will burn and so they can eat sweets
@lundehund44 It's not pointless when the total ensemble is comprised of dreampop/ambient artists. Ambient being a subgenre of, you guessed it, "Noise". The atmospheric instrumentation are the *entire* point of the "Blood" album.
For many year I listened and loved this song but didn't really understand the words, I just feeled it was sad. Now I have finally read the text, and it really makes me cry. (please excuse my bad english)
This song has been a favorite of mine, as has This Mortal Coil since they surfaced. Read the poem years ago to my seventh grade class and all I was met with were wide eyes. Amazing song.
The tune is not traditional - it was a new tune written by an American in the 1950s for the old Shetland ballad "The Great Silkie of Sule Skerry". Fits beautifuuly anyway.
that's right the band often did a remix of other older songs but what a twist to the original I think some times it sounds like Scarlet Ribbons,Mmmm! good band
I am glad about the lyrics, thanks for posting this!---from HK's fans

when the instruments kick in it just buries the words and meaning of them. Pointless noise.

I read this poem (by Nazim Hikmet) when I was a kid. It was powerful enough to stick in my mind ever since.
It wasn't until I did a search for the words that I even knew someone had put music to it. Pretty awesome I must say.
