That could work if they used the GPU to do the processing. Someday two GPUs will be standard, one for graphics and one for physics. I've seen a really cool game thats coming out that has a super-realistic water simulation, and of course water will play and enormous roll in game play.
Realistic physics will be the next big thing in games.
@NutsandGuts it could, it's just like MPP calculation. companies like LSTC (for ls-dyna) are just waiting for cuda to be fully optimised and definitive before modiying the code.
Livermore software corporation (LSTC)....but you need a good preprocessor for building the model. Altair Hypermesh is probably the best but takes time to learn.
i found the nxtutorials website to have many interesting articles, tutorials, and models. I hope you find it helpful also!

They need to make video games like this.

This is NOT realtime. It probably took many hours or even days depending on the mesh density to render that.

They can always localize the effects and harden the rest. Relevant areas only.

nah you're wrong, this kind of algorithms won't work on a GPU.

well, hours at least. The mesh looks pretty simple, all they did was make a basic one, then use a program to add more.

@ebulating i doubt the "rendering" took hours. its the FEM simulation that took hours
