  • are all the chords being played by the guitar d7? so this lick will work on different chords.

  • Comment removed

  • Fucking groove... fucking tone... your videos are so good to view . A learned to much tips with your staffs... sorry for my english!! Thanks for post

  • Love the tuba tone your getting. Vintage Andy Frasier tone.... I have an Ampeg svt classic head and mostly play my P bass. Are you very familiar with the ampeg, and if so could you comment on how to get a really good tuba bass tone out of it?

  • Thanks !

  • hi marlow, this is awesome groove!

What is this kind of rubber do you have on the end of neck (about first position)

Is this give you some kind of tone or muting? my english is bad, i know ;-)

  • @WestCoastHermanek It was just sitting on the bass, i had previously checked it out for muting overtones when tapping, forgot to remove it

  • @MarloweDK

    Can i ask something please?

What is point of using a rubber on bass neck? I google it and i dont realy understand!

    Thanks!

  • @treliaris1993 Its a hairband to mute unwanted string noise when tapping, was just trying it out

  • @MarloweDK

Thanks dude! You are my hero!

  • @treliaris1993 Lol "a rubber"

  • @mso872 Control your hormones man.... this is music.

  • @Dutch02051990 My hormones are in control, your comment is just funny for obvious reasons

  • i have a question .. what those that scrunchy do ?? those it change the sound of the bass? is it used like a capo ?

  • lol guitar is like a violin which i hate but I LOVE GUITAR, bass is like a viola which i love and i LOVE BASS

  • if ur playing over a D7 do u use minor 3rd or major 3rd or both?

  • @OnThatBass You can use both, major third is the "correct" choice and in the chord and minor third makes it "bluesy".

  • @MarloweDK thanks for generous reply. i got it now haha

  • the tuner could hardly keep up lol

  • FANTASTIC!!!!

  • I love your lessons, but i wish you would just come out with more videos of you improvising, and jamming

  • no wonder you're using the jazz ... fast neck! I've been playing this on my StingRay. This lick would sound awesome on a fretless!

  • This is the MarloweDK video that caused me to be a desciple.

    -Karl Scheer

  • Ow shit.... it took me a complete day to do this bassline and i played the blisters on my fingers...

  • @Dutch02051990 lol? i did it in 30 seconds

  • so smooth! XD

may i ask what is the brand of ur strings and what gauge are u using. much appreciated

  • @manuelarendain Dont remember the brand, but i prefer nickel round wound, gauge 45 - 105

  • @MarloweDK

u dont remember? LOL. too bad. mine are strung with d'addario

how often do you change your strings? what should ttell that its time to replace. should i use chemical string cleaners perhaps? much appreciated

  • @manuelarendain Msot round wound strings sounds the same, but feels differently.

It may have been Dunlop strings. Change them when they dont sound good anymore, thats simple. You can clean them with alcohol after ue, that would prolong string life

  • @MarloweDK rubbing alcohol?

  • cool, its just that basstrings are too damn pricey. ive read some articles that alcohol can damage wood, like the fretboard, and it also promotes rusting since it has like 30% water.

  • Don't know why but this bassline gave me a good feeling.

  • Very nice guitars. This is a hell of a theme.

  • what is that on top of your cab

  • AWESOME!!:!D

  • so groovy

  • nice improv

  • what is the D7 scale ? i dont understand, that's a chord.... so, do you play all the bassline using just the note which make up the D7 chord?

  • @funkrock94 Im playing over a D7 type of chord, using notes mainly from the mixolydian scale + chromatic and leadin notes.

  • you continue to help me open doors in my playing. thanks

  • gay u cant even hear the bass

  • Funky groovy!! cool!

  • Hello! Wow, how I love your playing. I'm striving to be more articulate with my voicing and listening very closely to how you do it. Thank you! Question. Do you have the same Marcus Miller electronics in that bass or did you change them out? Do/you did you like/not like the electronics. Thinking about getting one.

  • you are the classiest bassist i've ever seen

  • hi marlowe,it's a great joy the way you teach,thanx...wished I learned from you 20 years ago when there was no you tube ...

Of many question I have,I wondered why and when do you use that "piece of cloth" strapped around your neck/head??

Thanx & all the best, Bobby

  • @baxbobby You are welcome. Dont worry about the thingie, dont use it, was trying out what the tappers use it for - to dampen unwanted overtones from the strings when tapping

  • Bring on the funk!! Very groovy, very smooth. Keep it coming!!

  • Sooo groovy! Hah! You're cheeky smirk at the start is infectious! The slow-down is mint too - what a self-less muso. Cheers once again MarloweDK!

  • Hello! Im wondering what cabinet and head do you use? Ty

  • @Versi94 It's TC Electronics... Just bought a PolyTune by them...KILLER!

  • ça bon

  • whats the difference between the two Jazz Bass that you have????

  • @ozobass I believe he has at least 5 jazz basses.. if the piccolo bass is counted, does it make it 6?

  • Man, youre my hero!!

  • Did you record the rhythm guitar parts yourself?

  • Yes on this track i did:-)

  • Hey, hvilket kamera bruger du? Btw.. overdrevet fed bas! Du er utrolig talentfuld! - Simon (:

  • Creative Vado HD lomme kamera

Lyden optager jeg gennem min rh450 amp ind i macbooks garageband. Derefter syncer jeg lyd og billede

  • Nice..! Tak! Det gjorde dig lige 1000 gange sejere at du har en macbook!

Men mange tak! Bliv ved med det du gør (:

  • Very very good song bravo 5***** by Julita

  • whats at the end of the neck tom?

  • @lindyruffs

Yeah! Looks like he stuck a drummer's wristband above the nut. Whats that about? :p

  • You have a pretty jolly bass face my man.

  • So Groovy MarLoWe :) Nice Job

    Thk U

  • when I grow up I want to be like you! *_*

  • great vid again thanks!

  • great bassist. you should be touring with a national act. you have a pocket and feel that people are looking for

  • Now that some serious bass guitar. :)

  • if its a D7 chord and you use b7 you are actually using the 6 O_o

  • @oldb0b

its a dominant seventh chord which the 1 2 5 and the lowered (b) 7th degrees of the major scale.

  • he means the dominant chord has a b7 from the major scale.

  • ....it is a women's scunci....(for theri hair)that is to stop the string from ringing out when you slap different strings in a row....bro. Dont worry the Woot used it too.

  • Hey Marlowe..

Whats the deal with your sweat band wrapped around the headstock?

  • I like this white background!

  • I'm Marlowe and I play the bass =p Thats what you look like. Cocky bastard. (jk cuz i wish I thought of it first).

  • groovy, is this the Marcus Miller signature you are playing on?

  • yes

  • i really wish i could afford 1 decent bass.

  • Marlowe that is just awesome. So you like the RH450?

  • yes

  • is that a hair scrunchie

  • yes it is. Victor Wooten has used one for a long long time. it stops the strings ringing too much from memory. Victor often moves it up the fretboard when he's in between songs.

  • it must be cold where you are, cause your hands are right in the pocket!!!

  • HAHA!

  • THAT IS SO LAME BUT I LOVE IT xD

  • Why is it lame?

  • nuuu

    @funkyfingers33

it must be cold where you are, cause your hands are right in the pocket!!!

i thougth that was cheezey :P it was ac omment :P the lick isnt lame

  • Comment removed

  • @thtmusicloser yeah looking back that coment was a little on the cheesy side but the bass line was sa good

  • bah dum tish!

  • I've been following you for years Marlowe. This is one sweet bass line. And you are straight up smooth with it.

    Keep posting em. Nice

  • tighttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt

  • cool story bro

  • kind :)

  • Hi Marlowe! What king of strings do you usually put on your miller jazz? thanks.

    Ste.

  • Roundwound strings all sound more or less the same, the difference is in the playability. On this bass its DR sunbeams

  • Thanks man! As usual great Job!

  • I like how you relate your licks to chords - I imagine that's a large part of why they work so well. I love the white Marcus Miller Jazz as well; it's one of the coolest basses Fender makes.

  • Haha love it,, fantastic that you can improvise so many nice basslines of this backing track,, what is this.. like the third one or something?

  • Its just a funk rhythm in D, one can play almost any funk line over that;-)

  • Well maybe thats true.. but the quality of your grooves just stands out,, atleast thats my opinion... i mean sure you can play a nice thing over a backing track.. but somehow its just so funky everytime.. thats a gift man:P

  • What's your jack ?

  • Great groove. Your play is very inspiring!

It is handy to see the notes you are playing on the tuner of your TC.

    Greetings

  • You really are an absolutely amazing bassist. Bring the warwick back out! haha

seriously you have the most worthwhile channel to subscribe too.

  • Sick!

  • it must be cold where you are, cause those hands are always right in the pocket!!!

  • like that!!! lol

  • Yihaaaaa....and cowabonga bubbalooo groovalisticooo....

    Super sound !!!!!

    ;-)

  • NICE nice .... you are the best

  • Dude. Best youtube name... EVAR!

  • I love this bassline, great job Thomas.

I was wondering, how would that sound if you added the sixth and made some emphasis on it too?

  • th 6th is in there - the second note in beginning of the line. But yuo can of course substitute the 7th for the 6th to get a more "Majorish" flavor

  • Awesome man you've got such a great feel. I also see you've got the hair band up there, presumably to mute open strings when funkin out. That's awesome dude. Was Vic the first famous bassist to do that?

  • I was just experimenting with some tapping before this lick and didnt bother to remove it. Its a new thing for me, and yes i saw the hairband (scroungeeeee or something) first with Wooten

  • A cool. Yeah it's a nice idea for tapping. Thanks for the response and sick groove as always.
