This song is about the Vietnam war, Barney said so at the Troxy gig in london last week. I have always thought it was the ghost of a soldier who didn't realise he was dead that found his wife on the floor.

Ian Curtis played melodica on 'In A Lonely Place' and played it like an instrument was meant to be played. Ian was into Augustus Pablo, who was known for playing the melodica. That might be where the idea came from (to incorporate melodica into JD and hence NO).

It's a cool instrument. People often describe the sound as "haunting". I wouldn't disagree.
