  • His voice is assuring, always brings me back to a good place. Makes me proud to be a fan.

  • 3 people with no soul!!!

  • I love melodicas!!! & New Order bass...

  • Bernard has very very cute lips & cute face, I'd like to kiss him endlessly.. !!! BTW this is one of their best songs!! I just LOVE the melodica!!!

  • loving barney's melodica

  • This song is about the Vietnam war, Barney said so at the Troxy gig in london last week. I have always thought it was the ghost of a soldier who didn't realise he was dead that found his wife on the floor.

Amazing tune by THE best band on the planet ..... Ever!

  • Joy division was better.

  • 3 people have no families.

  • without a doubt, the coolest band on the face of the earth

  • goosebumps. wooooo

  • Don't Ask Don't Tell.

  • @duboyduboy.Everyone has there own opinion of this song, the reference to the telegram some think he's dead, others it was a mistaken telegram and he got home to his wife who thought he was dead,i've seen comments this was about the falklands war, because of the time of release, which i dont see.Just enjoy it as a new order song and make your own ending

  • the universal sacrifice for country song... in memory of the wars post 911!

  • yeah!!

  • Peter Hook Rocks!

  • very touching

  • Great song. You should look up the iron and wine version of this. Its amazing! In my opinion it amplifies the emotion in this song

  • @rockster7878 no in my opinion its without emotions

  • most bad ass band of all time. and it's so rad to see bern play on a strat for once.

  • Of course its an Anti war song. Its about a solider with a young child and wife. He will never see them again, War creates widows and fatherless children.

  • Barney sometimes looks like Stan Laurel, don't ya think? Fucking ACE !!

  • love the sweetness of this song

  • this is the best live footage I've seen of them from the 80s. Where do I get a DVD of this?

  • your right its not pro-war or anything its just a song about a ww2 soldier, some think it is a anti-war song

  • If you listen to the opening lyric "ive just come from the land of the sun" (Japan) it is about a soldier coming home from ww2 not a anti-war song.i have followed new order from Joy division and this is one of my faves 2

  • @MrSka67 uhm well i mean it might be ww2 based but that doesn't make it anti-war? he's dead. he won't ever see his family again (or they won't see him.) it's pretty clearly not PRO-war, anyways.

  • If you listen the opening lyric is "ive just come from the land of the sun" (Japan) it is about a soldier coming home from ww2, not a anti-war song i have followed new order from Joy division and this is one of my faves 2

  • @MrSka67 i'm not slow minded or something and yes i definitely agree with you; but this thing kinda bugs me in a gothic/dark manner. Is this song other than about a soldier coming home from WW2 is also about a dead soldier's ghost coming home from WW2 and saw his wife with tears and holding a death notice telegram and have no idea that he was already dead? maybe you could help me debug this; thanks.

  • for the men who died for their country....great men perfect lyrics

  • it's the first song off 'low life', not power corruption and lies ;-)

  • love this fuckin song

  • this song almost makes me cry it makes me think a lot about my familia and about all of those people in the war how much they must miss theirfamily and i hope everyone would support them they are just trying to protect us we wont forget 9/11

  • @bomba50

    you must be joking

  • Awesome song. Espeacilly with the wars going on today.

  • @12laube12 Espeacilly [sic] with the peace going on today. The 20th was the most peaceful century, don't F up the 21st.

  • Brill

  • Lucky japanese audience!

  • I perfer Iron&Wine's cover. It fits the lyrics.

  • Best band of all time.

  • It's one of their masterpiece, isn't it ?

  • Love that guitar outro. Coming straight from the (velvet)underground!

  • this song means no more war.

  • I 'll never ever forget both..... This amazing song and my endless love for you,,,Ricardo A. Scola. Love vigilants, reminds me that day when i saw you for the first time..............

  • My favorite New Order song! Just gorgeous.

  • New order are sposed to be good I was told.Nah,new ordinary really. The singer is a whiney voiced bitch.Sooooo shit is this.

  • This is a really spectacular anti-war song. I wonder if it was intended to have that message?

  • @dragoon84 i dont think its anti war! i think its touhing and i have adoped this song for my current tour of afghanistan... i think its true and sad but thats what we feel

  • Lowlife such a solid album

  • The best song in the history of the world , it will be played hopefully when i die .

  • a not me this mortal coil copy

  • Is this Fact 177 available on dvd?

  • I believe it was 1986 or 7 when I saw New Order and Echo & The Bunnymen play on the same bill. NO was supporting Substance and Echo supporting Songs to Learn and Sing.

  • What an awesome show that would have been!

  • lucky bastard!!!!!

  • love the early live .before he started "dancein?" on stage

  • I think he been dancing for we started to sing his song.

  • What's Bernard playing at the beginning?

  • Looks like a sort of melodica. a keyboard you blow through. Used allot by the Clash back then as well.

  • @ComoParkStudio Depeche Mode used this a lot too.

  • Ian Curtis played melodica on 'In A Lonely Place' and played it like an instrument was meant to be played. Ian was into Augustus Pablo, who was known for playing the melodica. That might be where the idea came from (to incorporate melodica into JD and hence NO).

It's a cool instrument. People often describe the sound as "haunting". I wouldn't disagree.

  • Pink oboe.

  • ABSOLUTELY DUG THIS BAND - -THEM AND ECHO & THE BUNNYMEN *who are still the best band in the universe*

  • I totally agree with your band selections! For some reason, Echo and NO just go together.

  • ain't it the truth!

  • I could hardly hear from someone that Barney is great, it seems that all people find something wrong with his musical skills.. Why?, I think Barney does it great,

  • @Andres21479 I know your comment is a year old, haha, but I completely agree ! I often see a lot of negativity about him, but I think he's perfect the way he is ! :)

  • @Andres21479 PS~ "Barney" doesn't like to be called that. Haha. He's said that he doesn't like that nickname, but people seem to still call him that. Poor Bernard :'(

  • That's the beauty of New Order live. I've seen them several times and Bernard will forget a lyric or Hooky will miss a chord every once in a while. They are still one of the greatest bands of all time.

  • omg so good. SO GOOD.

  • Listen the Iron and Wine cover of this song. Great!

  • cLASSIC NEW WAVE ONE OF THE BEST

  • Bret easton ellis

  • I left the army to get back to my wife and child! I always sang this song when I was away from them!

  • I love this song. Probably top 5 in my favorite songs of the 80s.

What happened at minute 1:57 to 2:00 in the song? It looks tome like he made a mistake ther. Understandable, I couldn't not even imagine doing this in front of thousands of people time after time and not making a mistake. :)

  • what's wrong with mistakes in front of a thousand crowd?? even the beatles, u2, pink floyd, did mistakes in live performance.. who the hell d'you think you are mr. perfect??

  • The person you responded to meant that he doesn't see how you could perform that many times and NOT do a mistake ;)

  • this is one of the cutest sounding songs i know of. very touching.

  • Beautiful :'(

  • I just love the way Steve puts those little doubles on the snare in towards the end. Low Life was their best LP as a whole - all killer no filler.

  • fond memories of this song, Augsburg, 1985

  • I was in the Air Force on Okinawa back in '88.

As a military man I loved it more, and still do.

  • All my love - whatever they say. And you old fans, grow up!

  • be still my beating heart.....

    timeless music.

  • Je souhaite que quelqu'un couvre ceci et change le lyrique pour représenter les USA et la Grande-Bretagne en Irak... C'est une si grande chanson.

  • it already does represent the 'iraq war' (or whatever the media is calling it now) very well..they lyrics don't need to be changed or anything

  • fucking melodica. this song rules all

  • me too

  • I live in hope Peter will see the light, because I NEED to see this band live

Du hade något vackert i mina öron.

  • Cette chanson est parfaite!!!Elle est jouée par des musiciens avec peu de technique mais tellement de style et de personnalité.C'est une gemme.Equivalent actuel??? pier

  • Je suis d'accord mon pote!

  • One of New Order's Best!

  • very nice song

  • still a classic! My all time favorite band. BTW, isn't this the theme music one some cell phone add? I swear the guitar part is in a series of commercials somewhere.

  • It's the first song off of their first record called Power, corruption and lies i forget the name

  • Age Of Consent

  • Thanks SO much for putting this up. Great to hear and see this again. Neglected classic.

  • ......

  • this song stood out for me because it wasnt that electronic beep beep stuff.

  • Is Pumped Full of Drugs, available on DVD?

  • PFD was released on DVD, but only to the Japanese market for some reason? (the UK had to make do with VHS tape). Don't know whether it's still available though?

  • I has the distinct privlege of meeting New Order twice on tour...once in Chicago, the other in Kansas City. They rank among the very best bands ever.

  • what can i add? one of the best bands ever...long live New Order

  • God I miss New Order. Thanks for this.

  • this is "ALMOST" as good as today's music huh?? LOL thank you so much for posting this!

  • Barney's still got the protective plastic over the pickguard...rocking!

  • Awesome! Love New Order.... Thanks for posting! :D

  • On of my favourite New Order tracks!!!!

  • YES - do you like YOUR SILENT FACE? those are my 2 fav tracks - saw them live 5 times in San Francisco in the 80s ...
