@Mhabyba Islam means "submission to Allah", not peace. the Quran itself proscribes death for those who do not wish to embrace Islam, followed by jizya for survivors (9:29), as well as harsh punishments for adultery, such as starving the women to death in the homes (4:15). culture has a lot to do with it, but many aspects of that culture have their roots in Islam itself. in the Quran, and the hadith. The problem here is that yes it is angry men that are perpetrating these horrible crimes. But it is also Islam and antiquated cultural systems that are justifying these behaviors. I would venture to say that Islam is at least 500 years behind other religions and cultures. For them to still see women as possesions/objects that can be raped and then blamed for the raping is indicative of the antiquity of Islam. Let us not forget the governments of the Middle East that are allowing this too.

I studied the Quran and numerous Hadiths and it is irrefutable that every violent act by Muslims can be traced back to Islamic teachings. There are verses that tell them to hold authority over women, beat them, murder their own wives and daughters all to protect the family honor. Just like the Bible was updated, it is time that the Quran gets updated to remove these verses in order to give future generations a chance to realize that a life (man or woman) is more important then a families image.

First of all, I began my statement by saying that SUICIDE IS 'FORBIDDEN'. Secondly, the person(s)whom caused this young lady to take her own life should be held liable for her death--if not in this life, surely in the next, they will be. I am not Muslim. I ended my marriage because of the abuse. When my family learned of the abuse,they could not understand why I STAYED with my husband!
