In visuals Ad may be an innovator but in engineering software it does more bad than Microsoft in operating systems market. Thanks to Ad a backward AutoCAD is awaiting the next generation of engineers, using its monopoly to hamper attempts to switch to alternative solutions and to stuff universities curriculum with pure 2D drafting classes - on AutoCAD of course. I don't know how to use it and never tried, but i heard of this thing, yet...i didn't knew what it does, now i know, but complicated to explain in English anyway, learning this Autodesk...you will earn lots of cash in many work places...shit it's looks beautiful in this video, i think all auto/car commercials are made by this program and even other genre and style commercials not just cars/auto...awesome, but it's messy and hard work isn't it ?

I graduated from university as an engineer. I taught myself how to use 3ds max and now do work such as that featured in this vid for a living.

As a 3d visualiser, I have worked as an architectural-visualiser doing 3D drawings for architects, which is how I know 99+% of architects can't do this stuff.

Max is the ultimate choice. while maya has some things better than max, which you can get as plugins for max

max has a better interface, easy to use

mostly more powerful than maya, maya just has some presets that make it faster, yet in max you can not only acheive the things, but make them better / custom.

Far Cry 2 was made in MAX and in MOTIONBUILDER. so yea

As far as I understand, there is a consensus that what you can accomplish with Maya you can accomplish with 3ds. Of course both have slight disadvantages over each other but almost nothing that can't be solved with additional plug-ins. Plus you can always cross-over. The poor argument (IMHO) though is that "major studios use Maya", when these have teams of programmers that boost Maya to such an extent that it is almost unrecognizable from the market version that you and I buy.

3ds Max and Maya are awesome. But is your preference, the difference between one and the other is the animation and particles. Because Maya don't use Biped, have one is called The Machine Setup, but you need to buy it. And the particle area, 3ds max is more fast and easy. In my case I use Maya, because I love it and is much better for me and more understandable.
