a few of their songs are built of allusions and metaphors, so if you don't get that, you don't get the song.

I think the lyrics at the beginning... the "Thinking strictly in Blues and Reds..." I think it means he's thinking from his heart, instead of his head. Basically love is taking control over his ability to think rationally... When he says "constricted the veins headed straight to my head... he means that they constricted his ability to think, because he's fallen in love, or something similar. We've probably all felt that feeling.
