I can't believe you think Hong Kong is Expencive and unfriendly. Hostels are shit holes but the hotels are very cheap in HK if you avoid the 5 stars! We had an amazing time in HK last year even though it rained non-stop for 4 days and we got hit by a typhoon. We only spent £250 on our trip between us, including lush meals out, entrance fees and shopping in Stanley market and our airport transfers - so how the hell can you say its expencive, try London, thats expencive!

Seriously...you expected a five star hotel???? how much did you even pay for the hostel???? 100 - 200 HKD???? Nothing is free. Im so sorry to say this but if you're that frugal (or poor), don't even bother to travel aboard. Travelling should be a good time with good memories, why would you want to torture yourself in a hostel and be stingy about everything.

Hong Kong is a developed territory, China is a developing country. Still HK is expensive if you hit tourist areas, but no more so than back home. I eat out all the time and usually spend around HK$22 which is like 3 US. That's not that bad.
