as a Canadian i've heard many of my US friends tell me they envy the Canadian health care system, because our government has made health care "free". its a bit of an illusion promoted by the Canadian gov't. our health care isn't "free". we are the highest taxed people in the world at roughly 48% of annual income being taxed. we don't complain for 1 reason: as long as there's a medical system for our children when they need it, we pay for it through tax.

Maybe that is why you are confused on the matter. In the US, the government does not control the doctors or health care. Thus they cannot send private doctors overseas. When they send aid, it is in the form of finances, or is a military operation (such as with the tsunamis)

Private clinics are now opening in Canada to treat the people who can't get help on the social system. Not only to they pay for care in taxes, but they have to pay clinics to actually get help. Sick.

As far as "exporting" doctors go... Doctors are not a product to be exported...
However, it does bring to light an issue: Doctors tend to migrate out of countries with socialized health care because in addition to the educational requirements and long work hours, the pay is crap. That is why places like Australia and Canada have severe shortages of doctors.
Exporting doctors because there are so many? HA! That's going to ridiculous lengths to put a positive spin on a bad situation!

My grandfather went to Cuba in the 40's, and was surprised by the abundance of child prostitution and illiteracy.

I'm not saying our health care system is perfect. It certainly has room for improvement. Most of our problems right now are a result of our failing economy.

2. In Canada, they had to pass a law preventing hospitals from waiting more than 4 months to treat a patient (prior to the law it could take a year or more)
3. The average hospital in Cuba is run down and infested. Patients die of starvation due to neglect.

Um No. You were the one who started comparing the two. You act as if the US does nothing. That simply is not the case. I'm trying to get it through your thick skull that the US ALSO helps with medical issues, but since the govt doesn't control doctors they must do so in other ways. Are you really so dense that you can't see my point?
You keep screeching that Cuba is exporting eye care, yet patients in their run down hospitals die of starvation. Why do you not see that something is wrong there?

Wonderful use of film and photos that have nothing to do with reality. How many medicines has Cuba developed? Vaccines? Are you going to produce a film on Political Prisoners in Cuba and how happy they are? If it's so great in Cuba why are there boat people? The US embargo? Why doesn't Cuba trade with the rest of the word which doesn't support the embargo? Canada, France, UK, Germany etc. do not support the embargo. The US embargo is totally ineffective. Cuba is North Korea with a smile. :-)

I can't produce a film on that which doesn't exist. Why don't you do a film on political prisoners in Cuba. I'd love to see it.
The boat people are often family members of those already in the US.
Cuba can't trade with the rest of the world. If they do, the US sanctions the other country. The US has already sunk a French boat that was trading.
You need to find out the facts. You believe lies.

@Supercharts look up the Helms Burton act and the Torricelli act which was introduced in the 1990s to strengthen the archaic and genocidal embargo
This prevents businesses within countries which wish to trade with the US from trading with Cuba. That means most or all businesses.
the US regularly closes down Cuban bank accounts abroad which are used to trade (like all countries do).
go figure why this effects import export trade in the Cuban economy.

as a Canadian i've heard many of my US friends tell me they envy the Canadian health care system, because our government has made health care "free". its a bit of an illusion promoted by the Canadian gov't. our health care isn't "free". we are the highest taxed people in the world at roughly 48% of annual income being taxed. we don't complain for 1 reason: as long as there's a medical system for our children when they need it, we pay for it through tax.
