Dave was in deed the best thing that happen out of Van Hallen beside Eddy's epic playing abilities....With this said he was consumed by stardom as was the rest of them but Dave's own ego ultimately cost him his career when he was still in his prime.
Stardom always plays a role and destroys what once was...LSD lead singer disease in his case. It's sad to see him try and do the songs they did 30 years ago...hard to play catch up after 3 decades...
Bought it in the summer of '98 while on holiday in the Scottish Highlands - still have tons of memories which are actually tmy own video for the whole record!
That said, it wasn't that fun back then, Magna Carta is a cool label but Dave sold less than 100k copies... I was pissed at the time, thinking it was worth selling by millions... When you compare with what albums sold more than that in those days...
Van Halen is not one person, for example, Mikes backing vocals are a big part of classic Van Halen.

I actually really like this tune.
Something I would love to hear him with Van Halen backing him instead of his solo band.
