  • WOW! First off, great job! . i play guitar and have always loved his style. watching this slowed down for us made me realize why the average person and even some musicians cant even realize what all is going on. they dont realize how good he is. watching this video made me realize why Alvin Lee is one of the most under rated guitar players. in my opinion he was one of the best for that time era. you just showed us everything that the untrained ear missed, lol. thank you for this video.

  • Thumbs up if u sweat learning this.

  • Thanks man. I have been sooo intimidated by this lick but now after all these year, I think I'll give it another shot....

  • Your a real good teacher !

  • Excellent. How you figured that out is beyond my playing.

  • lol he def sped up the video for the fast parts

  • Excellent

  • This is very well laid out with what seems to be correct notes. Alvin really never plays the exact same way all the time anyway, but ya gotta have a good foundation to be able to 'jam' it up. What's really most important I've noticed, is how it all time's out. The all important sublte nuances and knowing how to rock it up and make it swing is more important than the exact notes, I say. Capture that Alvin spirit and rock the shit out of it! :)

  • thank you so much tony11122, it's about 30 years that I wanted to learn this intro

  • Great lesson. I'm trying to learn it. But I have a question:

The lick from 3:20-3:43 differs from when you play it from 3:54-4:00 and 4:09 - 4:15

    Which is the correct one?

    Thanks.

  • @mymailtube Sorry!!! Man, I didn't even see that. The second one is right.

  • @mymailtube thanks for sharing this intro, i have been dreaming to play this since i was a kid

  • Geesh man, awesome instruction! Hats off! Alvin Lee was my hero too, I guess I must have see his performance in Woodstock kazillion times.

How the heck did you figure this out? Clubbed him on the head and made him play it for you at 3.3RPM??????? I dunno how you did it, but you done it!

  • TYA lo mejor del rock'n roll!!!

  • Thank's man.. You're a good teacher.

  • No1

  • la mejor leccion de esta cancion +10 xD

  • Thanks for yr reply. I used to slow down vinyl, too, and tapes. Guitarists now have no idea how easy they have it, with "note for note" books and computers. Even with those tools, it's a lot of work! Looks easy and cool when ya get it down like you did on this, but few know how many hours ya put in alone. What's really amazing is when ya think of how Alvin, Jimi, Charlie Parker, etc. learned, huh?! kudos, C

  • How'd you figure this? slowed it down? watched him on video? amazing!

  • @dogheartch Many hours in front of an old record player at half speed. Picked up some from another guitar player in high school, and finally tweaked it when I got a computer program called TRANSCRIBE. Slowed some of it way down on that program to pick out the little parts that I had been playing wrong for years. It helps to watch videos of guitar players too. There are so many places on the neck of a guitar to do the same lick so it helps if you know where the lick was played originally. Thanks

  • Ohhhh, that's what he's doing.. Ah well, awesome lesson. Although if one canT' figure out what key the song is on, then they probably won't be able to follow this.

  • Fucking A man! Great lesson, great gritty amp. Keep on rocking

  • Thank you very much.

  • I just wanted to say thank you to everyone for the kind words on this lesson! Alvin was my guitar hero when I was in high school and he is probably responsible for some of the lower test scores that I racked up because I was too busy trying to learn this song note for note. If I had to do it again, the grades would probably be even worse!! ;-)

  • @tony11122 Outstanding!!! There is some great stuff on youtube, but this is truly exceptional. You have done a great job, and this is one of my all time favorite guitar jams

  • great job bro . really help me out thanks .

  • LOL....Yeah, I didn't think about non-guitar players watching this!

  • Amazing, thanks alot!

  • Thank you Thank you Thank you

  • You are very welcome! Thank you for watching.

  • * * * * * five star good job!!!

  • Pas mal du tout mec !

  • Merci!

  • I don´t know what it is but I cannot see the videos fluently... what camera do you use a HD one ?? :-

  • Hey Guitargonzo! Good to hear from you. I used a JVC Everio HDD. I thought it was a high definition camcorder but that actually stands for hard disk drive which I think is a little misleading. The vid seems to work OK for me on my computer, but there is an HQ function on YT that provides a little extra clarity and might work better for you. Also, you could try the vanderbilly site as all of my lessons are posted there too.

  • Thanks so much for this lesson! I've been trying to play this song correctly for years. I've come close, but you showed me how to do it like Alvin. Thanks again.

    Todd

  • You are very welcome! Thanks for watching. Alvin was a great inspiration to me. The rest of the lesson is at vanderbilly. com all for free.
