  • You're absolutely right about the concern for Peter's youth.....that and that he was so well known as TV Vet Tristan from All Creatures Great and Small

    Well done sequence :)

  • I think when it's 50 years old they should play all the old themes and bring loads of the old doctors.

  • Sad thing? It still looks too good. Boy, technology is a grand thing. What they struggled to do in 1979 with a full suite and studio, we do today with a smartphone.

Regardless, well done. Shame we can never seem to get a shot of Matt Smith staring straight down the barrel of the camera.

  • @TheShadowGovernment check out the intro drwho1994 did. Perfect shot of Matts face

  • DOCTOR WHO RULES!!!

  • I think you mean "80's hipster version".

  • its awesome

  • How did you do this? Where'd you get the clean titles?

  • @JimmyPagecovers The entire sequence was animated from absolute scratch using Macromedia Flash MX. I've been meaning to post a tutorial on how I did it. A few "objects" were designed using photoshop, such as the brighter stars, Matts face sequence (without stars). The moving small stars is actually 7 layers with 4 to 5 dots on each layer. The layer fades in, then a 30 frame animation scales the layer larger, creating the illusion that the stars are moving closer.

  • OLD LOGO!!!

  • @redtherobin Look at the upload date, then look at when the new logo was released.

  • oh man yours is better than the other one, more accurate and streamlines with the actual logo as if they would have done it if the starts were not modernized with each passing three doctors or so.

  • amazing, keep up the good work

  • Awesome

  • Can you do a Matt Smith 1974 opening?

  • Very cool! I could never do something like this.:) Good job.

  • i am really creeped out by the fact that Matt's eyes are transparent...

  • Excellent! Not to pick nits, but, the only possible improvement I see is replacing the logo with the current one. But even so, It's absolutely great!

  • @QuiteWellAdjusted Yep, other than the logo, this is a realy nifty piece of work!

  • i wonder if moofat will bring the face in autums series

  • Sailing Space.

  • Very nice! Thanks for the work!

  • @LuigiRockz230 Actually, the 70s intro was like the vortex opening I did with Tennant. The starfield openings started at the turn of the 80s

  • Great animation! Very talented!

  • Very impressive! In all the other fan made intros the head looks rather out of place or obviously inserted in, but here it moves seamlessly. Kudos on a job well done!

  • killer stuff!!!

  • Marvelous. couldn't have done it myself of course. You have a talent.

  • @stylus2011 Thank you very much :)

  • Make the sequence but with Matt's face having a fez on. xD

  • i personally like tennant mainly because i started watching the series when he was the doctor i dont know how the other doctors were like

  • @hotrod1318 The 4th Doctor played by Tom Baker is generally known as the universal fan favorite. But bear in mind, Tennant was the Doctor during the RTD era, and Davies is the "odd man out" when it comes to Doctor Who format continuity. Series 5 under the reign of Moffat is closer to what the original series was like, with the exception that all original series stories were in serial format, each story encompassing 4 to 6 25-minute parts usually. Look up "Doctor Who serials" on Wikipedia.

  • how do u do this what software?????

  • @reedyspeedy12 Well it can be done the easiest in a 3D animation software such as Sony Vegas or Adobe AfterEffects, but since I had neither, I had to utilize what I DID have - Adobe Photoshop for the graphics and Macromedia Flash MX for the animation. Although it looks 3 dimensional, its actually a complex 2D animation consisting of about 20+ layers.

  • Matt smith is so sexy

  • Very good but u should have done the 2010 logo

  • @dalekcaanman Lol yeah, I get that comment alot - I animated this right after the announcement of Matt Smith playing the 11th Doctor, and the 2010 logo had not yet been released. But even if I had done it by the logo we saw after its release, it still would have been wrong; the first 2010 logo had the traditional "Doctor" on top with "Who" below it. The intro to Series 5 displays it horizontally like the Eccleston/Tennant logos

  • @sixstanger00

Not to mention between "Doctor" and "Who" there's a "DW" that's messed with to resemble the TARDIS (complete with the light on the top). Think you can redo this with that logo and use "The Eleventh Hour" like the more recent people making Alternate Matt Smith Titles?

  • I've noticed that, the older the Doctor gets, the younger a body he regenerates into. #13 will be in a Pre-Pubescent kid, the way things are going :P

  • @anonymuswere or a fetus

  • Man I wish I could make one of these for myself because me and one of my friends are going to be making are own Doctor Who spin offs but I am so slow when it comes to computers that I will never be able to get these intros right to make for my own.

  • @Nacho2333 Lol yeah, I worked on this one for about two weeks. I created it from scratch using Macromedia Flash (the same software that makes all those animated banners you see on the web) I had two years of college studying graphic and webpage design...that's where I was introduced to Photoshop and Flash

  • @sixstanger00 See I dont htink I could ever make a video like this even if you did teach me how to.

  • @Nacho2333 I've been working on a tutorial for this vid because alot of people have been asking how I did it, but I suppose it wouldn't do much good if you didnt have an understanding of it, huh?

  • @sixstanger00 no not really but I can still try.

  • @Nacho2333 The tutorial will be interesting to watch...;)

  • @sixstanger00 Do Elaborate, I'm Putting Together My First Upload Video's & any Hint's or Other Info would be Usefull.

  • Wow...once again I am impressed. Very well done. If I were you, I would've put the original 80's logo, but it's still k00l

  • @SwordMaster515 Thanks, in retrospect I agree that I probably should have used the original logo. If I still had Flash, I would make another one using the new logo, since it is occasionally displayed in the traditional vertical format - ("Doctor" on top of "Who")

  • @Mrflappere As I've already said to the 20 other people who've already told me this, when I created this intro, the Smith logo had not yet been released. Look at the upload date. The new logo wasn't released until early this year, and this vid was uploaded in November of last year.

  • They really should bring back the older intros.

  • He *looks* like he stepped out of the 80's....new wave hair! Almost Flock of Seagulls!

  • @Bohemimom Yeah....as soon as Smith was announced as No. 11, and publicity shots were released, his hair quickly became known as the "Flock of Seagulls" hairdoo.

  • Picked my favorite theme of all of them, and had his eye go toward the camera :) Cool choices.

  • @nutherefurlong Well, this IS the theme that goes with this style opening :P

  • I like your approach to these things. Subscribe clicked!

  • @poglad Thanks :)

  • Its much better than I could make it but you need to fix the transparency on the stars.

  • 0:13 will someone please tell me how to do that "extending face thing". please im begging someone to tell me

  • @ATV642 Not sure how it's done using 3D software, but in Macromedia Flash, it's basically a "stack" of the same image, with each one being slightly larger than the one in front of it. The "extending face" was animated in reverse; I started by scaling the image until it covered the entire screen. The next frame is then created as a copy of the 1st. In fframe 2, I pasted the same image on top of the 1st, but scaled it slightly smalled so that the first image's border was showing.

  • @sixstanger00 I continued in this manner - creating the next frame in sequence as a copy of the last, so the "faces" I'd already scaled were preserved. It's also a good idea to have a secondary layer below the extending face layer the same size as it's "starfield" counterpart, so you'll know when you've created enough frames/scaled enough images to equal the original size. I then selected the entire sequence and reversed the frames, so that the smallest was 1st and the largest was last.

  • @sixstanger00 ah. thank you so much, all i have to do now is buy Flash! luckily it was my birthday recently and i have enough for it, thanks for the help.

  • @sixstanger00 ok new problem, I bought Flash and I tried to do what you said, but my image has a white background and it doesn't look right, do you know how to make the background transparent?

  • @ATV642 Yup - You'll need a image editing program like Adobe Photoshop. That's what I use. Open the image, and using a polygon or freehand lasso tool, make an outline around the edges of the face, so that everything you want to show in your animation is selected. Copy your selection, and then paste it into a new layer. Then hide the bottom layer. Save the image as a GIF and make sure you select "Preserve Transparency."

  • @sixstanger00 wow thats freaking lucky. I have to use photoshop, and I'm about to buy photoshop for other things. thank you so much for helping me, now i can make an intro with my face. MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

  • @ATV642 No prob - I know alot of youtubers are reluctant to give away their design secrets, but I figure, what the hay - you'd figure it out eventually anyway. Incidentally, if you have any more questions, feel free to ask - I've been working with graphic design for about 12 - 14 years now.

  • @sixstanger00 by the way your intro is amazing!

  • @ATV642 Thanks! I think I worked on this one about two weeks - the starfield itself was 7 separate layers, and the animation as a whole was over 20 layers. Not sure how familiar you are with FLASH, but the program offers fade in/fade out transitions that I used to make the starfield "tunnel" fade away, and then the same for the face tunnel, the face moving towards you is simply the 2nd layer face scaling larger; use a "tranform" command and set the final frame opacity to 0 percent ;)

  • It could be better but it's good.

  • u shouldve used the dr who 2010 logo for this

  • @Mozzyeon I would have, if I knew what it looked like at the time I animated this. I did this one mere days after it was announced that Matt Smith would be No. 11, and we were still about 4 - 5 months from seeing the new logo. I would do another one, but the computer that had my animation software crashed :(

  • @Mozzyeon HE MADE THIS BEFORE THE NEW LOGO WAS OUT YOU IDIOT! LOOK AT THE UPLOAD DATE!

  • Win :D

  • wrong logo

  • @RogamaFilmProducers Look at the upload date. I made this before the new one was revealed, but not long after it was revealed that Smith would be the 11th Doctor. I thought about re-doing it with the "Moffat logo," but my comp crashed and I lost Macromedia Flash MX, the program I used to make these animations.

  • Good job. Timing is a little off but apart from that excellent

  • Timing? On what? This was animated from scratch.

  • The timing on the animation with the music is slightly out

  • I presume you mean versus the timing of the Davison sequence? I wasn't aiming for an exact remake.

  • @SupremeDalek1000 Nothing wrong with the timing

  • pretty damn good!!!!!

  • Did you need extra effects because of matt smiths emo hair lol

  • huh? No. What's wrong with Smith's "Flock of Seagulls" hair?

  • well that his haircut is like 30 year old, i thought a new fresh doctor would have more style, i feel the flock of seagulls just looks untidy

  • I think his FOS hair IS very stylish. He's the Doctor, so he doesn't have to be wearing a modern-day suit, tie, & trainers to be stylish. Unlike RTD, I think Moffat is making more of an effort to make Smith's Doctor an accumulation of all his previous incarnations. Doctor Who isn't about the lead actor looking gorgeous.

  • Good job - 5 stars.

  • Thanks. I'm uploading a tutorial soon on how I created these in Macromedia FLASH.

  • Excellent!

  • Well good davidson would be proud lol role on spring hopefully were in for a new set of classic memories with smith as the doctor!

  • VERY COOL!!!! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK M8!

  • HOW!

  • Thanks, I've actually had several fans asking how I made these. The short version is, using a combination of Adobe Photoshop (for graphics editing) and Macromedia FLASH MX to animate everything....scroll down through these comments - I give a rough explanation of how they were done.

  • Good vid, shame about the "bedroon bontempi" theme, though.

  • I'm not sure I understand....are you referring to the theme in this vid? This is Peter Howell's mix of the Who theme, which was used throughout the 80s with last seasons with Tom Baker, all of Peter Davison's, and the theme changed very little for Colin Baker.

  • wunder wat theme will be like for new 1 XD error oin vid

    :(

  • i'll give the guy a try but I dont think he'll do as good.

  • nice, you should try it with the 70s tom baker or jon pertwee titles.

  • I did a Tennant opening Tom Baker 70s style....haven't considered a Smith one though....thinking of going further back to recreate the openings of Troughton and early Pertwee though.

  • Yep, Very well done!

  • That was great! Very Nice Job!

  • Comment removed

  • good

  • looks kinda rough.

  • That's youtube for ya. The HQ version on here is a little sharper, but the animation gets choppy. I have the orignial AVI files for my intros, so if anyone interested, I can email them to you - just ask.

  • Dude nicely done! A***

  • Nice!

  • that waz fantastic

  • Old meets new! Nice job.

  • Jasus, that was amazing. Possibly the best series 5 mock intro on YouTube. You need to send this to the BBC pronto. Moffatt strikes me as a traditionalist. He might just take notice

    Well done

  • Thanks. I agree, I have always gotten a sense of "TruWho" with all of Moffat's stories. It's going to be great when he's the EXEC in series 5. Oh, and be sure to check out teh 80s END TITLES I did for Matt Smith.

  • Now wouldn't it be hilarious if they went back to the old style themes?

Now don't quote me on this, but didn't Steven Moffet say that the theme and the "desktop theme" of the TARDIS was gonna change during his run?

  • Yes, I've heard rumors on the internet that Moffat is planning to completely redo the intro sequence and music for Smith, and I think its already confirmed that the TARDIS interior is getting a makeover.

  • how did you make these how doyou get those dots in plae for hes face

  • The program I used for all of my intros is Macromedia Flash MX. And for the "stars" that "stick to the screen" to form his face, I do the following:

    1) Edit a pic of Smith in Photoshop to remove all of the background image and the darkest areas of the image. I then copy that to a new layer so as to make all of the removed areas transparent. Save as a GIF (it will preserve the transparency...) (continued...)

  • thanks pal i reall wanna try this for my series

  • If you're interested, I would be happy to entertain some ideas in Flash for you. If you're working on a Doctor Who series, be sure to let me know how it goes! I would be thrilled to see them!

  • thank you i was wondering if you could give me a tutorial of it and ideas of how to do it please mate itll mean alot to me if you did that thanks brad

  • do you have msn

  • Also, if you need a 80s style Smith intro, I would be more than willing to let you use this one - I would be happy to send you the .AVI file. I can also add episode titles to it. You may want to look at the 80s style end titles I have for Smith too.

  • 2) I then import that image into the FLASH file I'm working on. Create a layer on top of the one the face is on. Using the paintbrush tool, I create dots over the lightest areas of his face, as well as dot the edge of his head to form a dotted outine.

  • 3) I then copy the dots into a third layer, again into a fouth and a fifth. On the third, I erased about 75% of the dots. On the fourth, I erased about 45% of the dots. On the fifth, I erased none. Hide the color image of his face. Then, for the 3rd, 4th, and 5th layers, I scaled them down, then set up motion tweens to scale them larger over a short duration of frames. Once the 3rd layer is in its final positon, I just repeat that final frame while the process repeats for the other two layers.

  • Watch my short "David Morrisey" starfield to see this process without the animated starfield, big stars and other distractions. P.S. The moving starfield was also created in flash. Its actually 7 different layers with 5 to 6 stars per layer, each "fading in" in the background, scaling larger, then "fading out."

  • God i hate Matt Smith

  • matt smith will be an excellent doctor he will bring his own style to the part as all of the actors have done.I have lived through a lot of dr who regenerations now the very

first one i saw was pertwee to baker in 1974 when i was 3 years old.

  • I think he'll be really good. Sick of hearing people slate him when they have no idea who he is. Ignorance really.

  • Great!!!

  • His picture strangely enough works to a 80s type style....... curious.

  • Thats what I was thinking after I did this! I think its because Smith being so young is reminiscent of Davison's era. Have you seen the end title sequences I did for Smith?

  • Remember being 5 and seeing the end of FURY FROM the deep. They are perfect - thanks for making a who fan happy. Who never dies just gets better!

  • i agree chap

  • Hooooooooooooly crap that is fucking awesome

  • Awesome work! Great stuff!!

  • very cooooooooooooool

  • yeah he sounds like peter davison and part sylvester mccoy i think ; )

  • Yay for matt smith of course him going to be different from David all the doctors have. That the whole points dont get me wrong Ill miss David as I miss Tom but I cant wait to see what happens

  • Yeah , after seeing the clips with Smith in Ruby In The Smoke, I really think he will be great as the Doctor, not unlike Davison's era. One of the things people have to have to appreciate WHO is an open mind.

  • hear hear m8

  • This is very good indeed.

  • You're very talented. Most people just tack someone's head on the existing titles but you've recreated them from scratch! Brilliant!!!!

  • Yeah, I toyed with the "tacked on" version when first set out working on the 2nd Tennant, but the "star pattern" face looked horrid. I'm considering modeling the Morrissey intro on Colin Bakers, since Morrissey's attire in "The Next Doctor" reminded me of Colin.

  • "...the more I thought about it, the more I began to think that this is probably what people were saying when Davison was about to replace Baker." Absolutely! And the same was true was Baker took over from Pertwee. Hard to believe now, but at first some people thought he was too young, too flippant and not brave enough!

  • Yes, looking back now, I seem to recall having doubts when Tennant was about to take the helm, but he quickly won me over. Especially in the fourth season. Its a shame he's leaving so soon.
