  • this drumming absolute disgraces narada michael walden's original track.

  • love the little michael jackson bits...you are aware that Jeff Beck views Brian May as better than himself, actullya thinks more of May than most other players...you can hear Jeff on Brian's solo track...the guv'nor

  • this isnt music, sounds like a drunk playing out at the lake

  • JB and JB are great. Isn't that Terry Bozio on drums? Looks like his set.

  • she just have a diferent way to play guitar...a diferente felling...

for me she is awesome ;D

  • i wonder if her strap is high enough?

  • This is not a contest !! Jeff is probably the best player alive

on a good night, Jennifer is freakin' awsome too, it doesn't matter

what sex she is, she plays the sh*t out of that axe period.

  • これ撮ったやるはエラい!でもよい子のみんなは真似しちゃいけないぞ!

  • HONKY! OH HECK!!!!!!! TERRIBLE!!!!!!!

  • 4:37......he's like the fucking DEVIL out for a morning stretch. He just casually exudes POETIC GENIUS out of his fucking PORES. Jeff Beck expresses so much in every note he plays. In every gesture & nuance. I'm fairly certain even he's not aware of it. It just happens. Long may he rock. Jennifer Batten? She's as fine a guitarist as any one could aspire to. Her intervals, her tonality. She doesn't have Jeff's quirky genius, but she's as good as anyone can get without it!

  • Jennifer Badassen actually...

  • Jennifer Batten is extremely talented and her work with MJ was beautiful. Orianthi on her own is hot on her heels. As a guitar player and a huge fan of Jeff beck, he is my all-time favorite. He freely claims Les Paul as his big inspiration, but Jeff's sound and style are 100% original. So many so-called "monsters" of the 80's and 90's were heralded as the next (you all know who they are) but all they did was copy Jeff in a different key.

  • Also, Jennifer is hardly a young "guitar hero".

  • When will people stop saying "better than"? There is only one Jeff Beck but Jen's technique and execution is flawless. She is an unsung hero as far as I'm concerned and deserves much more exposure. As for @djegand's statement about restraint and melody, this is a jam. Jeff's and Jen's styles are very complementary. I suggest that you pull up some Clapton if restraint and dedication to a certain discipline (blues) is your primary focus.

  • Believe me Jennifer is a great player......Jeff would not be on stage with her if she wasn't......Like i've said before.....Jeff is the best, every time he steps onstage he re-invents the guitar......Jimmy Page says pretty much the same thing

  • @bobbyozb This! Exactly this! Jeff Beck does not need to boost his ego by bringing in some incompetent guitarist just to embarrass them with his skills. If he brings in someone else it's because they are good guitarists than can keep up with him and that's it. There's no other reason.

I'm amazed how people claiming to be his fans can think so lowly of him.

  • @ljooni Exactly right !!!

  • Godam this is one of the finest recorded guitar jams ever.

    Thank you Jennifer and Jeff!

    And of course, vishnaiva

  • thats the problem with young "guitar heroes" restraint & respect for the melody not yet learned

  • Thanks to the uploader for the great vid. Jeff Beck doesn't get destroyed by anyone though, LOL

  • O Cara toca Muito fais Parte dos Dinosauro da Guitarra

  • He's the Miles Davis of the electric guitar.

  • where is the song from them callled something like once upon a time in the west or something ??

  • They make it look so easy. But it really is FREAKING HARD! Propably even harder than trying to kiss your ass

  • After 4: 30-- WHOA!!! Nice try Jennifer, thank you for playing, but you've been BURNED.

  • This video is friggin' hideous! Guess it was a great performance - Jeff & Jen rule!

  • mooi combinatie.!

    nl

  • Jeff is a Guitar.

    Exactly!!

  • She starts off great but then falls into the trap of thinking that playing 4 million notes is the thing to do.

  • @ReallyBigFatLarry Well, of course she haves her style and maybe we don't understand some thing or another she's saying. Do you really think Jeff would play with someone who doesn't say?

  • @ReallyBigFatLarry Hows your guitar playing coming along Larry ? gives me a shout when you are playing Carnegie Hall next

  • @ReallyBigFatLarry She's a smart girl, CREATING the perfect contrast for Jeff to do exactly what he does.

  • Killer vid, Jeff is so generous, lets Jen loose and patiently waits to uncoil like a snake. Amazing.

  • It takes balls to get up there with Jeff Beck ( or Stevie Ray for the matter ). But Batten just killed here!! Man. . . .

  • Man, that chick ROCKS!!

  • jeff rules!!!!!!!!

  • This Video is totally awesome!

  • good song

  • Who's the drummer on this? Never heard this song played this straight before!! I sure am missing Narada's amazing drumming from the origional version!

  • Guys are just being jelous here LOL

  • Jennifer Batten is not a better Jeff Beck than Jeff beck is, but she is the best Jennifer Batten there ever was and one of the VERY few that don't need to crumble in shame when entering a stage with Jeff Beck on it. It's like actors in a way. Some actors just behave like actors, kinda like guitaris sounding like guitarist are suposed to sound. Some actors make you think they ARE their character. Jeff Beck IS the song he plays and Jennifer Batten is one of the few to even come close

  • @heyawhaw

Well said, my friend. If Jeff hadn't have innovated SO many techniques....he was doing the right-handed finger picking waaaaaay before Eddie V.H.....he set guitar precedents that have yet to be matched. From a devoted Jeff Beck fan.............

    OUTSIDETHEBOCKS

  • IT'S ALL JEFF'S FAULT!

    NONE BETTER.

  • Amazing -shes great and good eNuff to keep up with him....if you watch she is getting schooled as they develop together !!

It cracks me up that there always has to be the argument about who;s better...........Just enjoy the beauty...!!!

  • I hope so ,if you`d spent that many years ,and that much money in GIT and you couldnt play along Beck You would want your money back! sorry but these guitarists who have spent years at guitar school dont impress me ,GIT is for those without a creative endeavor, and it shows `cos none of `em can write a tune to save their lives, yes that includes Vai ,Gilbert and Satch,

  • One little problem: music theory is the basis to play all music and to take it to a more creative level. Once you know music theory, you can play anything! The problem for musicians is getting trapped within those scales and handicapping creativity (that is my problem). Trained and creative: John Schoefield has been doing stuff with the melodic scale no one else did before him. His education did not hurt him to bad. After that many best guitar player in jazz, ..............

  • Vai is an impressive (although eccentric) writer. . . Gilbert and Satch are fine too. but of course, I greatly prefer Beck to the three :)

  • I had the pleasure of seeing Mr.Beck at the Capital Music hall several years ago when he was doing the There & back album ! He is a great musican. Jeff doesn't forget where he came from! Batton is Excellent !! CarvinTone, have you tryed any Al Di Meola ?

  • I saw him on There and Back, also and he was great.

  • It is good to meet someone who has good taste in music. I have liked everything Mr.Beck has done.

I have been an avid jazz fan for a long time, Dimeola, Weather Report, Return to Forever, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Stanley Jorden! I could go on and on ! My best to you and your family on this day.

  • You cannot take anything away from Batton, she is a great player, Jeff is really picky he does not play with just anybody, only the best. Notice how he does not try to upstage her.

  • I saw Clapton, Page, and Beck years back during the ARMS benefit tour. Despite my deep admiration for all of the them. After watching Jeff, I just could not believe how good he really was.

Some of these clips are really poor quality with really bad mixes. The Ronnie Scott DVD is amazing quality, front seat views of some great cuts throughout Jeff's career. I like a lot of players but Jeff made me love heavy fusion. and instrumentals long before Satriani and Vai came along.

  • Jeff is a legend, a little respect is due. Check out the live at Ronnie Scott's DVD, eat your words. Stupid thing with the whammy bar???? Watch the DVD and see some real technique of HD quality. Jeff is unique, no one like him, which is more than one can say for a 16 yr old punk.

  • @CarvinTone

Good job my friend ! Somepeople just need to grow up and The realerob is one of these people ! Jeff is THE MAN !

  • Its not about who is better ! Its about the music my friends !!!!

  • she kicked the shit out of jeff beck. maybe if he didnt do that stupid thing with the whammy bar jeff would have had a chance

  • shut the hell up. Beck blows her sorry messed up hair head out of the water. thats his style. you only wish she kicked the shit out of jeff beck because you don't really understand Beck's real musicianship. im not saying she's a bad guitarist, she extremely talented, but she did not kick the shit out of Beck.

  • @TheRealErob haha...yeah, I agree. People are saying how much guts it takes to get up there with Beck....but jesus, I think Beck had alot of guts to up there with Batten.

  • Two guitar monsters !

I agree with E.C.. Beck is the finest guitar player ever.

  • I have so much respect for these guitarists. I especially love Jennifer Batten - I am also a female guitarist and it's so refreshing to have an awesome, shredding female guitarist as my idol!! I want to be as good as her!!!!

  • She has a lady force. I can strongly sense it. It's totally different from the male force.

  • what a tone meister jeff beck is. i had never seen this woman play before. she is amazing too.

  • she's also former michael jackson's guitarist. Thats Jennifer Batten for your info...

  • rofl..U all got the EZ part done.. raggin on here. I cant seem to find any videos of the people who made negative comments jammin with jeff beck...

Com on U asshatz who got nothing nice to say.. lets see UR vids of Uon stage with Mr beck or on any stage for that matter...I say most of U got NOTHING to say when it boils down to it.

  • She came to my college once. She played for us and gave us some first account information about the life of a world class musician. She was jaw-dropping, to say the least. My college proffessors of music were in awe. A really wise woman.

  • The groove is there, but Batten's playing (tone, phrasing, etc) seems out of place. Beck's is so much better all around. Beck destroys Batten here.

  • listen to the original recording it sounds exactly the same. so maybe thats how it was recorded.

  • The groove is there, man, U just can't get it from the "arena" sound recording. Bad sound, that's all... Awesome song and performance. I have been a Beck fan for 30 years.

  • batten and beck are a ridiculous combo...but what the hell? The original version had SO much more groove in the rhythm section...

  • Guys! Give the guitarist her dues!

  • I think the difference is that - Jen plays the guitar - Jeff is a guitar

  • So, Jennifer plays Jeff's G-String...LOL

  • @dgswilson: Jen is a fabulous guitar player; I think one of the very best. But you are correct. Beck isn't just a guitar player, not just a great guitar player; he is perhaps music itself. At the very least, an instrument from the heavens.

  • @dgswilson I love that comment! So true, that!

  • Jennifer Batten is insanely good chops wise...but, Jeff's tone is much richer...it's got to be the lack of a guitar pick...an amazing team for sure however

  • It's unlikely that her lack of tone is due to using a pick. Some of the greatest tones come from "pick" players. Its more likely due to thin guage strings and an amp such as the JCM900. IMO

  • better tone is more likely to come out using thick strings.

  • Who would have guessed that a woman could play with such fire, intensity. Jennifer Batten is an incredible guitar player! I only wish all my practicing I could

    be half as good.

  • She is in another league. Beck may have the licks and technical skills but Jennifer outshines him.

  • you have it backwards jennifer has the technical down, but where's the originality

beck is in a class by himself, just ask Eric

if anyone knows he does, Jeff is a guitarist's guitar player..

  • Thanks that helps a lot.

  • Comment removed

  • Can anyone tell me the time signature to this song?

  • hi the main figure is in 4/4 and the b section is 7/4 hope this helps

  • having Jennifer in the band just shows how much of a god jeff is, cause she destroys out there, most guitarists would not want her there...but he's smart, shes out there giving him a run for the money everytime

  • ..Какая Женщина :)) !

  • jeifer Batten can all styles, incredible!

  • I like Jeff but the best version I've ever heard of this song is what did Richie Kotzen and Greg Howe... Check it if you dont know

  • Muito bom!!

  • Yep, no pick...been a fan of his for years. For this style ya don't need a pick at all..cool vid...

  • picks @re for f@iries

  • How did that strat stay in tune after all the bar abuse?Incredible tone on both their parts...How about Jeffs right hand technique? He hasn't used a pick in decades and obviously doesn't need one........Peace

  • yeah jeff beck should consider replacing that bridge with a floyd rose...lol

  • Jenny is AWESOME. anyone who has anything bad to say about her is an IDIOT.

I saw these shows when she toured with him, and they were amazing.

Best "foil" for Jeff since Jan Hammer...

  • Tapping ruined R&R guitar for a decade.

  • I can't tap as well as her either mate. Difference is I got over it without looking like a bitter prick :)

  • Wow,poor audio and even worse camera work.Cool footage non the less.

  • Great Playing to Ms. Batten... I thought that was Jeff until the camera zoomed in on her. She's hugely underrated. (And who gives a heck what she looks like, guys!?)

  • I am so surprised Jennifer looks great at this show. Maybe she was lighter weight ?? Lightong ?? She has nice cheek bones. Her guitar playing is great too. I've seen her with Jeff three times. Thanks for posting !

  • Drummer is stinkin' up the joint. Beck and Batten are great though, and I guess that's all we need!! hehe

  • He had a very tall black fellow playing drums in the early eighties. I forgot his name. He was incredible.

  • jeff and eric are great mates and i think that they are as good as each other

    in thier way

  • Je connaissais jeff beck depuis des annees et là je découvre Jennifer batten ...Grand morceau et des musiciens de grande classe!Comme le disait si bien Zappa!" Shut up and play your guitar".Come on...

  • Jeff Beck BLOWS Eric Clapton out of the water in every category of guitar playing

  • I saw them together in concert at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh some years back - devastating!

  • Actually, Jennifer taps a whole lot better than Ed does. She taps with all five fingers on the right hand - chords, arps, 6-note per string runs... it's amazing to watch.

  • Look at 2:11-2:18--Jennifer Batten is a female Eddie Van Halen!!! Besides she looks great here, no 1980's "Big Hair." 5 STARS!!!

  • Zeppelin type shuffle.

  • How can you beat this. They are both having soooooo much fun and it rocks.Ants

  • beck has such integrity in his music and in his presence. he really brings the best out of jennifer - she looks really sweet in this clip.

  • Jeff is great and he dosen't have an ego sharing the spotlight with JB. What a team. The only other person to have the guts to do this was Tommy Bolin RIP. Brillant. Ants

  • i totally agree. jeff beck never stopped learning and growing as a musician. he must be 60 here and he still is just jamming it right in the hot spot.

  • There are only three 'shredders' I can listen to... Buckethead, Eric Johnson and Jennifer Batten. This is an awesome video.

  • I would like to know youtube's policy on this video.Whenever I see Jennifer Batten , My pants get wet....(Big Time)Good Job!I wish you could satisfy me(Jennifer)horizontally,or vertically....ahhhh.

  • For those in 'the know' Jeff Beck is the JACK KIRBY of rock'n'roll. ;-)!!!!!!!

  • The sounds that Mr Beck gets by using his thumb, nail, fingers, who hand and arm..... overload of cool stuff. Unique to say the least. The guy is an artist who paints witha guitar as his brush. Yo have to be aware of Jeff's long career to appreciate what he does now. By the way, Jen is really great too.

  • Well put, Jeff is an extremely unique guitarist!!! I still rmbr buying "Wired" and "Blow by Blow" when I was a kid and just loved his transition from Blues to a "Fusion" style he helped pioneer!

  • me too. i love his style

  • an insult to name even Sla... in here ;- )

  • That just blew me away !

Just when Jennifer Batten had my jaw dropping to the ground, Jeff comes back with a solo that knocked me clean off my feet.

    Bloody amazing stuff !

  • jennifer can kicks slash arse anytime.jeff's god and eddie van halen the king

  • she looks so sweet and beautiful in this video. nordic. i don't dig her guitar-whore persona in her other videos, but she really shines here. she is definitely a heavy soul.

  • Yeah!

  • lol funny way with the words...nice.

  • Whenever I see Jeff play, I'm always struck by how much he owns his guitar. He doesn't play it, he controls it.

Nice to see Jennifer Batten get a little solo time too.

  • great players

  • she's so beautiful.

  • Jeff Beck plays like Jeff Beck. so distinct - instantly recognized.

also: The world needs more rock chicks.

  • yes, thank you! Jennifer Batten is awesome. I'd say she's a better tapper/soloist than van halen and slash put together

  • Samrock I agree with you about Slash but not Eddie. I'd never heard of her before today and I'm impressed. The world does need more non singing, non bass playing women. More guitars, and drums please, and it's always a pleasure to hear Jeff.

  • fuck slash...he's overrated.nothing to do with guys like eddie.slash a guitar jack daniels hero, van halen's an institution

  • These two complement each other so well :)

    Henrik

  • it was even til about 4:33 or so when BECK UNLEASHES!!!!!

  • They can be called: Double JB

  • Jenn can sure play..Should be more girls shredding....

  • Hiring Jennifer was one of the best things Jeff did. She was flawless when I saw them both tours. I cant listen to her own stuff. she is top shelf guitar player the person you want doing your studio sessions, she can get the job done

  • Agreed, she rocks. I saw Beck and Batten on this tour. It was the best show I've ever seen , bar none. Beck is THE legend.

  • batten rocks....

  • She is an incredible player, but Jeff is a legend

  • She may be technically better in ways but I think Jeff still has more soul in his playing that she does.

  • very great guitar playing on "both" sides

  • the about this video is perfect: "Jennifer Batten destrói. Jeff Beck destrói." hahaha

  • WOW! beck and batten are great together. he needs to get her back and combine her with that awesome new bassist so he can have the sexiest/most talented band on earth! i reckon jennifer is just too good to be second fiddle for too long.

  • Is it just me, or does Jennifer Batten bring the best out of Jeff?

  • i think it works both ways. jennifer's playing is so clearly inspired by jeff, it is no wonder they go so well together. still, it seems jeff's playing really jumped back up to the very top around the time they got together. still, without her now, it has continued to rise... who'd've thought it possible???

  • She#s a dream. But Jeffs Backing guitar was so loud that most of the time she was hardly audible.

  • ... I don't really like this kind of battles normally, but it is really nice to see both JBs in relaxed conversation and a Jennifer that doesn't proof it too much (as she ususally seems to..) Thanx!

  • Playing next to Jeff ..she just knows not to even try !

  • Are you kidding me? Her solo was hot. All of her playing was superior. Both gave a lesson in how it should be done.

  • Ok.....they complement each other.superior? i don't think so she's good ......Jeff's Great.

  • Not only is the music superlative; there's also a distinct lack of ego tripping.

  • That was so fantastic. Big thanks for posting that, gave me a huge grin. :)

  • Nice Duo!

  • Jennifer ROCKS!

  • WOW!

    Many thanks!

  • GREAT to see Jennifer get some air time. Not often, when backing Jeff, does she get the spotlight. Thanks !!!!!

  • whoe.Jeff....what can you say man!!
