love the little michael jackson bits...you are aware that Jeff Beck views Brian May as better than himself, actullya thinks more of May than most other players...you can hear Jeff on Brian's solo track...the guv'nor
4:37......he's like the fucking DEVIL out for a morning stretch. He just casually exudes POETIC GENIUS out of his fucking PORES. Jeff Beck expresses so much in every note he plays. In every gesture & nuance. I'm fairly certain even he's not aware of it. It just happens. Long may he rock. Jennifer Batten? She's as fine a guitarist as any one could aspire to. Her intervals, her tonality. She doesn't have Jeff's quirky genius, but she's as good as anyone can get without it!
Jennifer Batten is extremely talented and her work with MJ was beautiful. Orianthi on her own is hot on her heels. As a guitar player and a huge fan of Jeff beck, he is my all-time favorite. He freely claims Les Paul as his big inspiration, but Jeff's sound and style are 100% original. So many so-called "monsters" of the 80's and 90's were heralded as the next (you all know who they are) but all they did was copy Jeff in a different key.
When will people stop saying "better than"? There is only one Jeff Beck but Jen's technique and execution is flawless. She is an unsung hero as far as I'm concerned and deserves much more exposure. As for @djegand's statement about restraint and melody, this is a jam. Jeff's and Jen's styles are very complementary. I suggest that you pull up some Clapton if restraint and dedication to a certain discipline (blues) is your primary focus.
Believe me Jennifer is a great player......Jeff would not be on stage with her if she wasn't......Like i've said before.....Jeff is the best, every time he steps onstage he re-invents the guitar......Jimmy Page says pretty much the same thing
@bobbyozb This! Exactly this! Jeff Beck does not need to boost his ego by bringing in some incompetent guitarist just to embarrass them with his skills. If he brings in someone else it's because they are good guitarists than can keep up with him and that's it. There's no other reason.
I'm amazed how people claiming to be his fans can think so lowly of him.
@ReallyBigFatLarry Well, of course she haves her style and maybe we don't understand some thing or another she's saying. Do you really think Jeff would play with someone who doesn't say?
Who's the drummer on this? Never heard this song played this straight before!! I sure am missing Narada's amazing drumming from the origional version!
Jennifer Batten is not a better Jeff Beck than Jeff beck is, but she is the best Jennifer Batten there ever was and one of the VERY few that don't need to crumble in shame when entering a stage with Jeff Beck on it. It's like actors in a way. Some actors just behave like actors, kinda like guitaris sounding like guitarist are suposed to sound. Some actors make you think they ARE their character. Jeff Beck IS the song he plays and Jennifer Batten is one of the few to even come close
Well said, my friend. If Jeff hadn't have innovated SO many techniques....he was doing the right-handed finger picking waaaaaay before Eddie V.H.....he set guitar precedents that have yet to be matched. From a devoted Jeff Beck fan.............
I hope so ,if you`d spent that many years ,and that much money in GIT and you couldnt play along Beck You would want your money back! sorry but these guitarists who have spent years at guitar school dont impress me ,GIT is for those without a creative endeavor, and it shows `cos none of `em can write a tune to save their lives, yes that includes Vai ,Gilbert and Satch,
One little problem: music theory is the basis to play all music and to take it to a more creative level. Once you know music theory, you can play anything! The problem for musicians is getting trapped within those scales and handicapping creativity (that is my problem). Trained and creative: John Schoefield has been doing stuff with the melodic scale no one else did before him. His education did not hurt him to bad. After that many best guitar player in jazz, ..............
I had the pleasure of seeing Mr.Beck at the Capital Music hall several years ago when he was doing the There & back album ! He is a great musican. Jeff doesn't forget where he came from! Batton is Excellent !! CarvinTone, have you tryed any Al Di Meola ?

I saw Clapton, Page, and Beck years back during the ARMS benefit tour. Despite my deep admiration for all of the them. After watching Jeff, I just could not believe how good he really was.
Some of these clips are really poor quality with really bad mixes. The Ronnie Scott DVD is amazing quality, front seat views of some great cuts throughout Jeff's career. I like a lot of players but Jeff made me love heavy fusion. and instrumentals long before Satriani and Vai came along.
Jeff is a legend, a little respect is due. Check out the live at Ronnie Scott's DVD, eat your words. Stupid thing with the whammy bar???? Watch the DVD and see some real technique of HD quality. Jeff is unique, no one like him, which is more than one can say for a 16 yr old punk.

It's unlikely that her lack of tone is due to using a pick. Some of the greatest tones come from "pick" players. Its more likely due to thin guage strings and an amp such as the JCM900. IMO

Je connaissais jeff beck depuis des annees et là je découvre Jennifer batten ...Grand morceau et des musiciens de grande classe!Comme le disait si bien Zappa!" Shut up and play your guitar".Come on...
Actually, Jennifer taps a whole lot better than Ed does. She taps with all five fingers on the right hand - chords, arps, 6-note per string runs... it's amazing to watch.
Jeff is great and he dosen't have an ego sharing the spotlight with JB. What a team. The only other person to have the guts to do this was Tommy Bolin RIP. Brillant. Ants
i totally agree. jeff beck never stopped learning and growing as a musician. he must be 60 here and he still is just jamming it right in the hot spot.
I would like to know youtube's policy on this video.Whenever I see Jennifer Batten , My pants get wet....(Big Time)Good Job!I wish you could satisfy me(Jennifer)horizontally,or vertically....ahhhh.
The sounds that Mr Beck gets by using his thumb, nail, fingers, who hand and arm..... overload of cool stuff. Unique to say the least. The guy is an artist who paints witha guitar as his brush. Yo have to be aware of Jeff's long career to appreciate what he does now. By the way, Jen is really great too.
Well put, Jeff is an extremely unique guitarist!!! I still rmbr buying "Wired" and "Blow by Blow" when I was a kid and just loved his transition from Blues to a "Fusion" style he helped pioneer!
she looks so sweet and beautiful in this video. nordic. i don't dig her guitar-whore persona in her other videos, but she really shines here. she is definitely a heavy soul.
Samrock I agree with you about Slash but not Eddie. I'd never heard of her before today and I'm impressed. The world does need more non singing, non bass playing women. More guitars, and drums please, and it's always a pleasure to hear Jeff.
Hiring Jennifer was one of the best things Jeff did. She was flawless when I saw them both tours. I cant listen to her own stuff. she is top shelf guitar player the person you want doing your studio sessions, she can get the job done
WOW! beck and batten are great together. he needs to get her back and combine her with that awesome new bassist so he can have the sexiest/most talented band on earth! i reckon jennifer is just too good to be second fiddle for too long.
i think it works both ways. jennifer's playing is so clearly inspired by jeff, it is no wonder they go so well together. still, it seems jeff's playing really jumped back up to the very top around the time they got together. still, without her now, it has continued to rise... who'd've thought it possible???
... I don't really like this kind of battles normally, but it is really nice to see both JBs in relaxed conversation and a Jennifer that doesn't proof it too much (as she ususally seems to..) Thanx!
this drumming absolute disgraces narada michael walden's original track.

There are only three 'shredders' I can listen to... Buckethead, Eric Johnson and Jennifer Batten. This is an awesome video.

I would like to know youtube's policy on this video.Whenever I see Jennifer Batten , My pants get wet....(Big Time)Good Job!I wish you could satisfy me(Jennifer)horizontally,or vertically....ahhhh.

For those in 'the know' Jeff Beck is the JACK KIRBY of rock'n'roll. ;-)!!!!!!!
itzjoeymac 3 years ago
The sounds that Mr Beck gets by using his thumb, nail, fingers, who hand and arm..... overload of cool stuff. Unique to say the least. The guy is an artist who paints witha guitar as his brush. Yo have to be aware of Jeff's long career to appreciate what he does now. By the way, Jen is really great too.

Well put, Jeff is an extremely unique guitarist!!! I still rmbr buying "Wired" and "Blow by Blow" when I was a kid and just loved his transition from Blues to a "Fusion" style he helped pioneer!

me too. i love his style

That just blew me away !
Just when Jennifer Batten had my jaw dropping to the ground, Jeff comes back with a solo that knocked me clean off my feet.
Bloody amazing stuff !

jennifer can kicks slash arse anytime.jeff's god and eddie van halen the king
frenchy5150 3 years ago
she looks so sweet and beautiful in this video. nordic. i don't dig her guitar-whore persona in her other videos, but she really shines here. she is definitely a heavy soul.

lol funny way with the words...nice.

Whenever I see Jeff play, I'm always struck by how much he owns his guitar. He doesn't play it, he controls it.
Nice to see Jennifer Batten get a little solo time too.

Jeff Beck plays like Jeff Beck. so distinct - instantly recognized.
also: The world needs more rock chicks.
mattoox 3 years ago 2
yes, thank you! Jennifer Batten is awesome. I'd say she's a better tapper/soloist than van halen and slash put together
samrock36 3 years ago
Samrock I agree with you about Slash but not Eddie. I'd never heard of her before today and I'm impressed. The world does need more non singing, non bass playing women. More guitars, and drums please, and it's always a pleasure to hear Jeff.
Darrylizer1 3 years ago
fuck slash...he's overrated.nothing to do with guys like eddie.slash a guitar jack daniels hero, van halen's an institution

Hiring Jennifer was one of the best things Jeff did. She was flawless when I saw them both tours. I cant listen to her own stuff. she is top shelf guitar player the person you want doing your studio sessions, she can get the job done
AnthonyKBlais 4 years ago 3
Agreed, she rocks. I saw Beck and Batten on this tour. It was the best show I've ever seen , bar none. Beck is THE legend.

She is an incredible player, but Jeff is a legend
geno220 4 years ago
She may be technically better in ways but I think Jeff still has more soul in his playing that she does.

very great guitar playing on "both" sides

the about this video is perfect: "Jennifer Batten destrói. Jeff Beck destrói." hahaha
richiekgtr 4 years ago
WOW! beck and batten are great together. he needs to get her back and combine her with that awesome new bassist so he can have the sexiest/most talented band on earth! i reckon jennifer is just too good to be second fiddle for too long.
itzjoeymac 4 years ago
Is it just me, or does Jennifer Batten bring the best out of Jeff?
Mark9309 4 years ago 4
i think it works both ways. jennifer's playing is so clearly inspired by jeff, it is no wonder they go so well together. still, it seems jeff's playing really jumped back up to the very top around the time they got together. still, without her now, it has continued to rise... who'd've thought it possible???
itzjoeymac 4 years ago
She#s a dream. But Jeffs Backing guitar was so loud that most of the time she was hardly audible.
Francologne 4 years ago
... I don't really like this kind of battles normally, but it is really nice to see both JBs in relaxed conversation and a Jennifer that doesn't proof it too much (as she ususally seems to..) Thanx!
frankpaush 4 years ago
Playing next to Jeff ..she just knows not to even try !
MY599FERRARI 4 years ago
Are you kidding me? Her solo was hot. All of her playing was superior. Both gave a lesson in how it should be done.
stereoview 4 years ago
Ok.....they complement each other.superior? i don't think so she's good ......Jeff's Great.
MY599FERRARI 4 years ago
Not only is the music superlative; there's also a distinct lack of ego tripping.
