Hate to break it for you people, but the historical personality called Vlad Tepes (vlad dracul) had nothing to do with Transylvania. He was the ruler of Wallachia (Valahia) , the neighbouring region. They only had the castle for a few years as a "gift" from the Hungarians, who had Transylvania under their occupation.

In Ortodoxy the canonical languages were Slav and Greek. It would have been a heresy to use Latin. It was the opposite thing with Hungary. @VredesStal Bran (Törzburg) is near Brasov and was built by the Saxons, castle Hunedoara is 300 km to the West and was built by the Hungarian noble family of Hunyadi. Vlad Tsepesh has been in both of them, but only as a guest or prisoner.

Satul Pestera se afla la cca 7km de Castelul Bran, in plina Rezervatia Piatra Craiului. Satul Pestera este o mica Austrie sau Elvetie. Am vizitat si pestera liliecilor din acest sat, unde chiar traieste o mica colonie de lilieci-vampiri.

Hate to break it for you people, but the historical personality called Vlad Tepes (vlad dracul) had nothing to do with Transylvania. He was the ruler of Wallachia (Valahia) , the neighbouring region. They only had the castle for a few years as a "gift" from the Hungarians, who had Transylvania under their occupation.

1.The castle were he lived most of the time was the castle in the city of Targoviste(the capital of his Wallachia);it's in ruins today,only the prison cells and torture rooms remain,underground.
2.Bran castle was never Dracula's castle,he barely stayed there.
3.Poienari citadel was probably his most spectacular castle...built on top of a mountain.
Bran is the only useable castle of those(the rest crumbled due to war,time,clime,quakes etc) hence...Dracula's Castle.

i watched a documentary (or whatever you wanna call it lol) on the History channel and it said that when he stuck he spikes all the way through the people they were still able to live for quite some time before actually dying.

there actually are thousands of caves in the mountains that have yet been unexplored you can go explore them yourself . btw watch out for the slippery huge 200meters holes that are in there :)

But it is and important area in the romanian history because the first written text in romanain was found here from the beginning of the XVI century.... On the independent romanian land.....:-))))))

@Radioshack77 , actually the hungarian dude posting here forgets to tell you that in their oldest hungarian historical chronicle, Gesta Hungarorum, it's written about the Conquest of Transylvania and the fact that when Hungarians came here there were already statal structures lead by Gelu, Glad and Menumorut. Hungarians have a habit in trying to denigrate the history of their neighbours and still live in 2010 thinking they're part of the Austro-Hungarian empire

ok, let me explain. The term vampire begun in Romania as strigoi. Because this was actually real. Some people after they died for good they raised up dead, and they were called sometimes strigoi, vampir, moroi or varcolac . Many many villagers still believe in it and when someone dies they do a special ceremony. I asked them myself. And why Vlad Dracula was called a vampire is simply because when a Romanian researcher found his grave , Dracula's body was intact and it vanished within seconds.)

I am an official guide in Romania, and I live in Bran, at about 800 meters from the Bran Castle, Dracula, the ruler of VALAHIA lived in 15 century Valahia was a different contry in that period) and the ¨count Dracula ¨was invented in 19 century, If you will be able to distinguish realty and fantasy, than you will be able to understand that in Bran there are no vampires.

Fantasy might be good for tourism, but the real history is definitely better. Cheating won´t get us too far. When somebody makes a trip, has expectations, if them are not accomplished they won´t be satisfied. When they will come in Romania and ask about vampire, or in the Bran Castle when they will ask bout blood, and underground, torture rooms what will you do? You mentality must change, there are people that make thousands of kilometers to be disappointed, Is it ok with you?
