  • O MY GOD !!! ALIENS WHaaaa

  • isnt it cold in that sub?

  • I can only think of GoodFellas when I hear this track.

  • Theres nothing like breakin' the ice when around cold people.

  • it broke through the ice because it had to make an emergency surface. i read it on wikipedia the other day:) someone had to be flown to a hospital

  • @Pringles352

Not only was one man seriously injured, but she was carrying two dead british sub sailors who had been killed in an oxygen generation fire.

British boats use an entirely different oxtgen dispursement system than the US boats do....

  • you can tell because the fins (dont know what hey are called) are on the hulll not the conning tower. Sorry to be a nerd

  • @blahblah48856

Correct, although the newest American boats do not have the fairwater planes on the sail anymore, I don't think they have any at ALL. The planes in the rear are called the Sternplanes...

    Rgds,

    Hayseed1957....

  • @blahblah48856 They are called 'planes' (short for hydro-planes) and you are almost correct. British boats have never had planes on the fin (not the conning tower - that is inside the fin) but fwd and aft on the hull. Some US boats had planes on the fin.

  • thats a british submaine

  • Thats a trafalgar class

  • 0:26 periscope status. Inside the cabin....

    Finland!!!

  • Just goes to show you; No matter where you travel, there's always someone already there ready to capture your arrival on camera....

  • Hayseed1957, your a genius. The music fits perfectly! XD

  • It's a British submarine. Cool clip.

  • imagine for a inuit or other northern settlement guy fishing and seeing this thing coming up with the periscope extending, I'd shit my pants on the spot, ALIENS!! lol

  • @FinlanC

Ha Ha, Only people from Finland say that....

    Thanks for stoppping in.

  • haha this is a british trafalger class sub...

  • this reminds me of the movie babalyon with diesiel

  • :25 LOL XD

  • I wonder if the crew was cold.

  • LOL, i think i saw this clip in a viagra commercial. or atleast i should have.

  • Its HMS Tireless

  • Id throw ice chunks at it.."ya damn sea tube! yer scarin' away me dinner!"

  • @xXnateXx086

I laughed pretty hard at that...I did the Mr. Krabbs voice.

  • *emerges* * Periscope up* "hey captn'.... this doesn't look like kansas.... "Aw ballocks!!! Did those cheeky american give us the up yours again?! Oh well lets surface anyway.

  • i love the person who picked the song for this!! <3

  • I am sorry for the two crewmembers - i didn't know. What was the reason for their death?

  • @ALB437

The British oxygen dispursement is totally different from American Submarines, and they had some oxygen generating canisters explode and started a fire.

  • What was the thickness of the ice?

  • @ALB437The ice was purposely made thin at this point, probably only a foot thick or so, as this was an emergency. They sadly were bringing up two dead crewmembers.

  • @hayseed1957 How was the ice "made thin?"

  • @davetileguy This took place right nearby an arctic research station. They located a suitable spot and prepared the area for them to surface.

  • cool i didn't know the thing shoots up like that is it Canadian ?

  • Ha - I remember the Argyll Tavern! Gosh, haven't heard about that place in a while! Andrew Jackson Blue, 82-86

    Daniel

  • I served onboard the Madison for 4 years out of Holy Loch. Gold crew Remember the Argyll Tavern???

  • @rmachayes

Yes, but only thru a drunken haze.....

I really like Scotland, I visited Glazcow and Edinburgh while I was there.

I was on the sister ship to the Madison, Tecumseh, made 4 patrols out of Holy Loch.

    Regards fellow Bubblehead.

  • i see you.!!!...............lol

  • AND THEY SAY THE ICE IS SMELTING BECAUSE OF GLOBALWARMIG lol

  • Nothing better than 90 North!! even saw polar bears up close!!! :-)

  • thats epic

  • submariners are great at breaking the ice ;)

  • @sniperpistol50 Priceless! Absolutely Priceless!! hahahaha

  • @sniperpistol50

Ha Ha, I like that. Very Fitting.

  • @hayseed1957 i must have been hard to go down there and get in it huh?

  • Dear Santa .....

  • @kelvinzz1 since i didnt get my dirtbike for X0mas im sending a Los Angles class sub to your house and hitting you with Tomahawk missles. merry christmas

  • Whats the song?

  • ¡Impresionante! Había oído hablar de ésto, pero todavía no lo había visto. Quizá un día vaya yo por esas latitudes.

  • This is how Chuck Norris goes ice fishing

  • @TheJrida Chuck Norris doesn't need a submarine to to go ice fishing he just smashes the ice open with his bare hands, ha

  • I still want to know: how cold was it when they got to the surface? did the crew get to go out and walk around on the ice? or was it too cold? do submarine crews carry clothing for every climate?

  • r the people alive

  • so how safe are these modern submarines? thanks for posting

  • i thought that was an IBM comming out

  • Really impressive!

  • Its always an Impressive sight!.

  • The North Pole is a nice place to visit, but I W/OULD NOT WANT TO LIVE THERE!

  • I was really drunk when i wrote those last few comments, not that it matters, i still would love to go to the north pole. is it snowing up there right now?

  • why do they surface on the ice?

  • It got excited at 0:30

  • That would have been scary as heck to see that

  • I know some people will think i am retarded, but I just watched this video six times in a row. I LOVE IT!!! go submarines! at the NORTH POLE!!!!!!!

  • Submarines are totally cool!

  • Way Down, in the Ocean! Where I want to BE!

    I LOVE THIS SONG!

    Three Cheers for DONAVON!

  • As a secularist, I strongly object to this. Spending federal money to visit Santa Claus violates the Establishment clause of the First Amendment.

  • @ThomasJAckerman Ha Ha,

    Thanks for posting.

  • @ThomasJAckerman

Ohhh those naughty elves they found another way to deliver the presents what are the reindeer going to think?

  • @ThomasJAckerman OH, So you want russia or another country able to freely send their nuclear subs across the artic circle to move in range of any city possible undetected.....

  • @ThomasJAckerman Thomas as a U.S. Submariner I can tell you you have no clue how hard life is on a sub and how important moral is. For you to say it wrong to spend money giving the crew a chance to break through the ice and see the outside for once while deployed on Christmas keeping you safe is sad and ignorant. They don't get to go home to their families and relax at the end of the day like you do. Of course while I may not agree with what you say I will defend until death your right tosayit

  • @frosty1433 Yes. Don't believe the hype, it's freaking cold up there.

@chrismitchum18 Actually, a nuclear sub can go for a decade (give or take) between refueling. They don't come up for food (that's all loaded before the deployment) and strictly speaking, they don't NEED to come up for air either. That can be made on board. The real reason to come up is to communicate, and they get air while they're at it. Of course, that doesn't apply to this video.

  • @drewdane40

Thanks for commenting. A submarine on patrol does not transmitt anything. Only in a dire emegency. It would give away thier location. We dragged a 1,000 foot long wire, so the teletype was constantly recieving. They also do not actively ping anyone with sonar. It is purely passive, just listening. That is why they sometimes run into undersea mountains, they are only listening..... And yes, the reactor cores on US Navy ships are made out of the good stuff, not like civilian ones.

  • @hayseed1957 Goodness, yes. If civilian reactors were required to meet the same standards as naval reactors, my electric bill would at least triple! When were you in the Navy? I was an ST on a 637 class back in the mid 90's. It was one of the last of a dying breed at the time.

  • @drewdane40

    I was a fwd ICman on the 628 for 5 years. 1974 to 1979.

Thanks for dropping in. I see you got shot, sorry about that,

    all healed up now?

  • @hayseed1957 Yes, mostly. My hand is still at about 50%, and I suspect that it won't get much better, if at all. Such is life.

  • @Submariner320

Lighten up fellow Bubblehead, I think the guy was just joking. That's the way I took it....

Keep your baffles clear and maintain a positive "up" bubble...

    Regards, Hayseed....

  • @ThomasJAckerman

#1 this isnt an american sub i dont think.

#2 its nuclear powered(they dont need refueling, once every 2 years)

#3 they have to come up for air, food, etc so no money wasted

  • @ThomasJAckerman however, santa claus is not in the constituion.. lol

  • Respond to this video...0:42.... very. very. very stealthy indeed... :)

  • Respond to this video... 1:20 - omg that would be so scary lol for someone who had never seen a sub before. but sooo cool. LONG LIVE THE RN

  • scary thing.

  • gps battery dead that's why he lost

  • 0:25 to 0:40 - A missile malfunction. It emerged from its tube so slowly and then got stuck. Maybe they ought to raise the periscope and take a better look. lol

  • This music reminded me of Goodfellas

  • @Braydawg69 yeah it is used in the movie the yune is called atlantis by the scottish singer donovan

  • i think that is a british trafalger class... i think

  • @117Chiefy You're right, it is the HMS Tireless, but unfortunately, they had just had an accident, and they are returning two dead Sub Sailors to the surface, Killed in an oxygen explosion.

  • @hayseed1957

ow dam yer. i herd about that on the news. that started up a hole load of safety concerns on loads of subs i seem to remember.

  • would have been much funnier if a guy popped out instead of the periscope.

  • thats great thanks for this :)

  • lol looked like giant asparagus sprouting at first

  • I like how that sucker just appears outta nowhere. lol. Gives u tha chills dont it. Ha.

  • *pops up* *looks around* OH HAI

  • "Up perisocope!.....Oh Hai guys..."

  • A possible answer to all discussions regarding the paranormal!

  • Lol I love the explanation of the video:)

  • LOL @ the periscope!

  • I dont need nuclear subs to break the ice ; )

  • imagine fishing and nuclear missile comes flying outta the ice.

  • hehe you think that periscope is compensating for something? hehe

  • "Sir, Santa is not here". "Send out a sreach party", "but he's not..." send out a sreach party NOW!

  • *periscope lifts*

    HELLO! I'M LINDSAY LOHAN!

  • actually surprisingly uplifting to watch, ...

  • wow

  • @dansvidco haha:P well any way i wouldnt like to be in a can under water:P anyway, even if it was like a cruise ship as nice:p not me lol not me under water:P XD

  • @modwebby Cans are tin. Subs are Steel(carbon?) something like that. XD

  • @dansvidco hehehehe still i would feel trapped:P nothing for me XD:DP:P

  • @dansvidco

Titanium if you want to be pedantic

  • @zombat Ok, lets just say metal.

  • Still training to fight the russians then

  • what submarine is this? i found a sub very much like it, USS Greeneville

  • "Periscope Up.....How the hell did we get here? we should be in the arctic! but why are we in antarctica? (periscope's lens froze) "

  • I'll scare if see this. "what a hell a ufo is here" or " they come for me- who- they" ja

  • Weird....

  • huge

  • onlookers; "Hey Jake! Did Bob make another prank call to Pizzahut? -If so; this time around it seems they've rented a proper vehicle to deliver all 50 pizzas to his alter ego, Mr. I.C. Wiener. A shame he gave up his actual co-ords, cause now he actually have to fork out the cash for all that food. That idiot."

  • The people should have been mooning the sub when the periscope popped up and started turning around.

  • @CANAAN9119 i was speaking in terms of a sub vs sub fight lol

i have 2 admit i know very little about subs, im more of a fightjet kinda guy

  • how big are most submarines?

  • @rockofella55

I was on the USS Tecumseh SSBN 628 for 5 years, it was 435 feet long, The Ohio class is 560 foot long, with 24 Trident Missiles. This is a British fast attack, and is 280 feet long.

  • @hayseed1957 brrrr i wouldt like being in a can under water:/

  • @modwebby Its not that bad. Since theres a pressurized hull, its able to withstand the cold and keep the crew warm with heaters inside

  • @dansvidco ya but still i would like to be in there;-) :P so i got lot of respect for those guys i wouldnt like it.

  • @rockofella55 I work at the submarine corp in australia and ours are 79meters which are considered small.

  • @rockofella55 200 mtres or more long

  • lol

  • I love this vid!!!

  • I dont think they found him

  • That was tigh-ight!

  • LOL

It looks like a strange sea creature with its periscope.

When it comes to which song it is...use TrackID on your cell phones, guys :)

  • lol in the beging of vid its like the monolift in 2001 a space odysy

  • What's the song? BTW, Santa lives in Finland at Korvatunturi!

  • The song is Donovans "Atlantis"

The guy in Finland is a Brother-in-Law.

  • @hayseed1957 lol

  • anyone got an a-z?

  • Man... There is no way I could resist the temptation to "moon" that periscope while it is looking around :D

  • love it

  • its a british 'trafalgar' class submarine

  • ye its HMS Tireless

  • "I swear, officer, I have my ice fishing license right here! Don't shoot!"

  • @roystonlodge lmfao

  • Amazing video!

  • Amazing Depth Control !

  • i like the way it comes out of the ice right by where they all are they must have a sat nav lol

  • that was a huge submarine.....at first when i saw it going down at the very end i thought someone opened a hatch and water was comeing in

  • the name of the song please??

  • Atlantis

  • thanks

  • "sup guys"

  • " 'ang on...this isn't Scapa Flow..."

  • It's like there's a bunch of terrorists here discussing America, and that guy just pops up.

    "You were saying?"

  • If the terrorists have resorted to meeting at the North Pole, when that means we are doing our job pretty well. The US and the UK will make sure that no place on Earth is safe for them.

  • Amen to that.

  • The subs like "Pretend as if I am not here. Keep on talking."

  • thot that was a nuke comin out the top XD

  • Me too, what the hell was that?!

When it surfaced fully i was like 'noooooooo!'

  • the front end surfaced first hence the tower tilting backwards as it comes up.

  • This is really cool video. Hats off to HMS Trafalgar!

  • its HMS tireless but its trafalgar class

  • Thanks

  • its hms Tireless, trafalgar class ssn

  • if i was mushing and saw that id be speechless

  • eh...kinda cool. But if you notice the ice is thinner there.....they find the thinnest area of ice to break through...

  • No really. What a genius. No wonder we kept denting the fairwater. We kept shooting for the thickest ice.

  • how cool is that?

  • moon the periscope :D

  • british sub

  • HMS Trafalgar?

  • haha...lol

  • This is a British submarine, US subs have the hydroplanes on the sail

  • Not all of them.

Since the 688i came out, they were moved to the bow.

  • hahaha... surprise!!!!!!

  • its like "helo, i am here to kill u!"

  • i swer, I have the biggest fear of subs! haha i know its sounds weird bu they are freaking scary!

  • Not really irrational, some of them could bring about the death of humanity.

  • dont even say that! i just found out that there is a sub which can travel the world 40 times over without ever coming up! and once again im hiding in my cupboard and no long swimming in the sea!

  • Aww, don't worry, none of that would matter :3 Does about as much good as school children hiding under their desks.

  • What song is this?

  • "jenkins you blithering idiot"
