What he said is a load of BS. The one thing you are never to do when you sight a bear is run. It will outrun you in any case, and once you do decide to run, it confirms you as prey. Also, being quiet and hiding is completely idiotic, if the bear spots you close by, its surprise is likely to turn into anger. It's best to make yourself big and noticeable from a distance, that way the bear sees that you're too big to be worth the hassle. This guy's a joke.
