When the "S From Hell" (as it's known in YouTube land) appears on the end of the season 8 episodes of Bewitched that I'm watching on DVD, I mute the sound and replace it with my own rendition of the "Dancing Sticks" theme and narration. So, if the "S From Hell" bothers you, just take your cue from me.
It all depended on which "Quaker" product was being "touted" on the episode that week, 'Bad'- one week, it was "Life", the other, "Quaker Oats", another, "Aunt Jemima", and maybe, "Quaker Puffed Wheat/Rice". Often, just the sponsor's "Q" logo appeared...remember, Chevrolet was the series' "primary sponsor" on alternate weeks, and their logo {with the animated Sam & Darrin perched atop it} appeared in the lower left-hand corner as well...
I thought that the "sponsor's corner" always changed the product graphic along with the credits' changeover? (i.e. From "Life", to "Aunt Jemima" to "Old Fashioned Oats", etc.) I've never seen one that was consistent thru the credits..
It's infuriating that Sony didn't include the original sponsor opens and closes with the dvd's ... what a waste. Thanks for posting them ... it is much appreciated!
More than the show itself, the Zeitgeist of the era came back so beautifully when I heard those muted trumpets again along with the B/W images. The nightmarish Orwellian evil of today really stands out now as I fast forward from that glimpse of yesterday.
How many of you recall "Maureen McCormick" (from the Brady Bunch) appearing in an early episode of this show? I believe that's where she got her start in show business.
I was 5 years old on 1/29/65. I have my first report card from kindergarten, dated 1/29/65. I watched "Bewitched" then. I wished I'd remembered the b&w episodes better. I go back remembering "Bewitched" only when Tabitha was born, during the 2nd season. The opening of Season 3, in color, I remember as if it were yesterday.
Viva "Bewitched"! What a great, enduring classic! That's why we talk about it here, 40+ years later!
now this is something that I never seen before. I didn't know shows back then were really that serious about their sponsors.. great classic piece nonetheless!
Great! Nice to see the closing as it should be. I just watched this episode on dvd last night. What really irks me is that Sony removes the Screen Gems logo and replaces it with the blaring loud Sony logo. You have to turn down the volume quickly or get blown out by it. Thanks for posting this.
It's such a shame that companies such as Sony, Warner Brother and others do not include the original sponsor tags and production logos on DVD releases. I HATE with a passion that Sony replaced the Screen Gems logos with the Sony logo. It's quiet a jarr going from black and white to color at the end of the closing credits. Thank goodness for all the original prints that are still out there of TV shows that've fallen into the hands of collectors. Otherwise this stuff would be lost forever...
Thank God I'm not the only person like you. LOL. I love watching this kind of stuff. Only problem is that is makes me realize just how old I really am.
This was from the episode "There's No Witch Like An Old Witch" as telecast on ABC April 1, 1965--which happened to be my 3rd birthday. Other shows on ABC that evening (Thursday) included The Flintstones, Donna Reed, My Three Sons, Peyton Place, and Jimmy Dean.
I still use Bewitched as an example when business people call me and don't know how to pronounce my last name, which is spelled and pronounced exactly as Darrin & Samantha's last name.
My dad's father was named Sam Stephens, and like Darrin in episode 1, Dad was originally from Missouri!
I always wondered WHY you would only see so many copyright years in the opening credits. Ive only seen like 1964,1966 and 1969. Same thing for "I dream Of Jeannie"
1964 was the original opening in black and white...1966 was the original opening in color...1969 had the "starburst" at the beginning with "ELIZABETH MONTGOMERY...starring in... (and, as she flew around to form the "B") ..."BEWITCHED!" The 1969-72 episodes also had a revised, jazzy arrangement of the theme song. (It was also the time Chevrolet's five-year sponsorship of "Bewitched" came to an end.)
The reason the sponsor{s} had their logo and/or product in a corner of the closing credits in the '50s and '60s (always eliminated in syndicated prints), 'Stuntman', was because it reminded people who was paying for the program...ever see the special Chevrolet logo with the animated Sam and Darrin "riding it" in THEIR sponsored closing credits?
Thankfully, those of us watching this great show in Britain in the late 1960s and early 70s didn't have to put up with adverts or sponsor's product placements. Bewitched was shown on the BBCtv channel advert free from start to finish. Bliss!
God bless Elizabeth Montgomery who died too young but her beautiful personality has been immortalized for generations more fans to enjoy.
Quaker Oats co-sponsored the show during its first five seasons (1964-'69). Their logo and products were flashed during the closing credits, as well as an "integrated" commercial for Quaker products featuring the cast at the end of the episode.
I'm not sure this is the first season closing theme. The 1st season ending had a little faster beat

Yes, this is from Season 1. Note the Screen Gems dancing sticks logo, used only in Season 1, followed by the ABC camera.

16mm should look better than this. Where can I find this without a lot of digital compression. This is cellphone quality.
But it's interesting to see Life cereal as the star of Bewitched. Hehehe.

If I'm not mistaken, this must be from ABC's ORIGINAL telecast of 'Bewitched' (1964-65). Not sure if it's on the Season 1 DVD...

"Bewitched" was also sponsored by Chevrolet, which accounts for the Corvettes, Chevelles and Malibus on the show (just like "Route 66").

I wish DVDs of old TV shows would show TV shows exactly as they were when they came out
(original logos and sponsors intact)

I saw that CBS DVD does. It keeps the CBS eye logo and leaves out the viacom logos. It does not with the Paramout logos though.

Some of their DVDS have the split box 1 logo at least though.

I was a day past my first birthday on 1/29/1965. I only remember Bewitched from reruns on the local, independent Philly stations.
However, it didn't help that I grew up in a household where my parents usually only watched CBS, and we didn't get our first color TV until 1970.
Mom still watches CBS mostly, 44 years to the day later! Dad passed away in 1985.
