I would imagine so, the GBA only has so much video memory. It depends on the size of their sprite though. Hmm... I'm gonna estimate it to be either 16 or 17, not including the player, without causing glitches if their sprites are 32x32. Also, I haven't actually added any new NPC's to the area, I only replaced already existing ones.
