I worked as a contractor at the Triumph Meriden plant in 1970/71. As I recall the Trident model was the make or break deal for Triumph. It never became the export success it was intended to be as they were being consistently out-sold by Honda's. To save jobs the factory got a government subsidy of millions of pounds and run as a Workers Co-operative fantasy. They should have sacked all the workers, given them a million pounds each and told to fend for themselves.
Guys, you guys have created beautiful & innovative work of art! I have a 72 trident , there's nothing like the sound of that engine. those pipes are so sweet ! awesome job!!!!
The trident always scared me because of the 3 carbs. I guess this video gave me the inspiration to think about trying to restore one sometime somewhere.
WHAT'S THE NAME OF THE SONG AT 6:00? ANYONE? THANKS! ITS A GREAT BIKE BTW... WISH WE COULD DO THAT KIND OF WORK IN CENTRAL AMERICA AND MAKE IT STREET LEGAL... SO ENVY! (IN A GOOD WAY OF COURSE)
Hello from Wales in the UK. I had a Trident T150V in 1974 with a right hand gearchange, something that didn't alter until the T160 was produced but was wondering in what year it became illegal to sell new bikes in the USA that don't have it on the left. I'd learned to ride with a right hander and swapping over to the other side took some acclimatisation at first. Are you fellas only allowed to ride righties if they were like that when the bike was first sold ?
@MikeJS57 I don't remember if it was illegal to have anything but left side shift but, 1975 was the year it started. I bought a T160 that year. I think the idiots at the NTSB were responsible for that moronic move. I never had the chance to ride anything that shifted on the right but, I know I would have adapted.
I like the way that this bike turned out, and being a Trident makes it even more interesting then a lot of the other Cafe's I've seen. A lot of people don't realize what it takes to build a true Cafe'.

Not bad but get rid of that front drum and fit a disk brake, cafe racers are more about function than form.

@mac163 Whell, this is kinda "showbike", so this is all about the form, then performance :]

Nice looking bike.
Really neat exhaust.
The only drawback, in my mind, is the brakes . I prefer disc as they look cleaner.
But hey, it's your bike and unique.
BTW: What after a hundred years single tubes make a bike handle bad.
I don't think so.

If you didn't have adult ADHD when you started looking at this video, you will have it by the end. They ruined a pretty cool Triumph.

What's the big deal? It's a rat cafe bike with a super ugly tank.
Why does a bike with a super ugly tank need it's own video?

would not handle ... single down tubes never do

Inspires me to do more with my '72 Trident! Like, for starters, finding brakes that actually work.
