He already admitted the reason just a minute earlier. He expected that both Posada and Cano would be on the base at the same time. He made calls based on what he thought would happen rather than what really did happen. Something almost every MLB ump is guilty of. It's a shame they can't just call games based on what the players do, instead of what they umps think they will or should do.
@shellback1970 He also blew the call with the 2007 WC consolation game between Colorado and San Diego, where he called Holliday safe at home, when in fact he didn't touch home.
McClelland is a class act for MLB. Agreed, he butchered the calls, but he has balls for facing the media. To give him credit, he only got to watch it in full time, once, from his angle, on a play that most umpires ever see in their career. The only problem with video replay is that EVERY close play will come under scrutiny. Its a tough job folks, jump in there and try it especially when things are as fast as they are in the MLB. (I'm not a Yankees fan, and I agree the umps had a tough playoffs)
"In my heart I thought he left too soon" Nobody gives a fuck of what he feels in his heart. And as for the Posada and Cano play, he "thought"... how can you blow something so obvious? Especially even when Cano started to walk towards the dugout knowing he was tagged out. Unbelievable.
Yeah, he kinda butchered those calls but you gotta give him credit for facing the media. I hate Bud Selig and I think he's the worst commissioner in baseball history but you gotta give it to the man for having the umpires face the media. David Stern should take a lesson from this. I bet if his refs had to answer for their bad calls, they'd make less mistakes.
for what ever reason....maybe u were payed notice how the angels always get raped from bad calls from boston and NY maybe they get payed....not to mention all the big teams in the leages the always get the qwestionable calls. though this was not questionable... for there team
The two calls had no impact in the outcome of the game. McClelland is one of the better umpires in the game... everyone has an off night... for example the Angels defense in game 6 or for that matter the entire series.
I am mad about the fucking umps Tim McClelland and hope he will not be at the game 5 if he dose go to the game the people will thoug beers at him. I will also thougs thinks to him. I hope he get fried.
That may be THE DUMBEST thing I've EVER heard any human being say in my 38 years ---- "I'm not sure I believe the first replay" ?????? Bwahahahahahahahah, And then he doubles down on his douscheyness by saying "I knew in my 'heart' he was safe. Knew in your heart? Since when did we start deciding the outcomes of major sporting events by feelings, empathy, or just plain wishing?? Jackass
put the umps in a booth, watching the same cameras that we are, give them a little bit of time to agree on each call (under a minute, really), boom, done. what is the issue here? we possess different technology today than we did at the dawn of baseball, lets use it without changing the integrity of the game, wtf? easy. (promo) check out my songs and rants, im solid, show some love
anyone who thinks this is one of the biggest mistakes in baseball history is a bigger idiot than this guy. the plays had no impact on the game or the series. so who really cares all it did was make him look bad.
This guy is an IDIOT! What does he mean he doesn't know if he "believes" the first replay! It actually happened whether he believes it or not.
The camera crew hasn't conspired against him to create special effects to make it look like the guy didn't tag up! It is a fact based reality that he just screwed up and yes it was "obvious" whether he wants to be a man and own up to it or not!
I wish he would fly away in a helium ballon with the father of that six year old in Colorado!
It really doesnt matter either way both plays didnt effect the game in any way that hurt LA one actually took a run away from the Yanks. So at least one of these calls didnt cost one of the teams the game.
The best is the fact that Tim McCarver hates the Yankees so much, that he was actually sticking up for McClelland after the botched Swisher call. I think he said something like:
"Well, maybe he backed up enough from the line that through perifrial vision, he was able to watch Swisher leave the bag while watching Hunter make the catch."
Yeah, righ McCarver. I gues McClelland has 360 degree vision.
he didn't see the calls for wherever reason????????? what ????? really ???? i was in the game my 6 years old son saw it and another 3 million people who were in the game
I believe that the MLB should do Two things... Hire Younger much ALERT umps, with good vision. OR Start allowing to challenge umpire calls. Cause thats somethiing you dont do in baseball, even more in the PLAYOFFS. Im actually rooting for the Dodgers, but those errors took away a good game for the Angels. I wouldve like to see eigther team, play vs. Dodgers, that wouldve been good world series.
I'm a Yanks fan and I was pissed at Cano because he just stopped and stood there. I was literally yelling "what the hell is he doing" Posada was caught in the rundown he was out no matter what. So when both were tagged I was pissed, then this douche only calls Posada out.
The reason I don't like this even though it favors the Yankees is because it implys what some people believe is true that the Yankees are favored by MLB to win the World Series.

I sure hope the Yankees have been giving this asshole WS rings for his bullshit calls...
THIS is the same umpire that called out George Brett in the" pinetar incident"
This asshole has a history of botching calls in the Yankees favor
