Until I stumbled across TvOtR I didn't realize that there were still bands out there that could write beautifully esoteric lyrics & couple them with poignant, textural music. Just beautiful ...
Hey everyone I've just uploaded some new songs for my solo project Glacierbrain
They are called ;
A Test of Reflexes
This Ghost Town has Been Waiting Here For Us
TVoR have always been a huge influence on my music , so if you wanna support some unsigned music check out my profile page and let me know what you think.
@1SamYabes Watch the episode of Entourage they use this song in. They were awesome with using the right song at the right time, but that was probably the best use of a song in a tv show. ever.
i went through a rough summer of drug addiction and my ex leaving me after four years and lost my job. this song reminds me of the better days after all that and makes me cry at times. just a bad ass gorgeous song in my eyes..
@bigtoepfer Never saw them live too, but you have this videos all over youtube with performances on Letterman and others and their tunes make a huge improvement with the actual band live.
Everybody should listen to the Young Liars version. It's essentially the same song, but there's a slightly different intro. It's really short, ten seconds or so, but it makes the baseline sound so much more awesome.
Indeed they have a great approach of the essence of music. They mastered how to make people feel like they are in an other dimension. This songs feels like you are diving slowly further and further to the depths of what we could call the Everything

es un decir tampoco no lo tomes tan al pie de la letra es que ademas ese negro es medio gordo y sin cuerpo, aparte la song me la recomendaron pero no me gusta osea yo prefiero el tiburon.
For a while at the beginning it almost sounds like the bass synth is off time or something. But then once he starts singing it doesn't sound that way. But I'll be damned if the intro isn't awesome.
this band kicks a hell of a lot of ass. great band with great songs. i hope u take a tour and come to Oklahoma City so i could see you guys live. u kick ass
i don't consder myself a TVOTR fan-- in fact, i think that they are pretty overrated-- but i do love this song and "halfway home," and a few others. yes, the members of TVOTR are great musicians. but i just can't get into the band, and i honestly don't see what makes them so great. to each her own, i suppose.
Bands you might like if you like TVOTR: Gang Gang Dance, Dragons of Zynth, Massive Attack, Osibisia, Build an Ark, Sa-Ra, Celebration, Bauhaus, Material, Pavement, the Party of Helicopters, Breakwater, Liars, Excepter, daniel givens, kayo dot, crystal antlers, saul williams, Benga, Stereotyp, Dalek, Thevious Beck, Octavious, Shape Shifters, Free Moral Agents, Warrior Queen, Telepathe, Four Tet, Sunburned Hand of the Man, Emeralds, Girlz of Zeatar, Sonny Sharrock, Art Ensemble of Chicago, Sun Ra
yeah im really starting to get into this band. i loved dear science, so i checked out their two other releases but i only got one (return to cookie mountain).. its great too.
Besides, music is an art, subjective to opinion, and the fact that you want to argue about peoples' musical opinions just reveals that you have missed the entire point of music.
To all those who are claiming that a band must be instrumental virtuosos to be "good"...
Music is more than playing an instrument. Shred and Metal can be considered some of the most technically challenging genres of music out there. I, however find it incredibly boring. It is linear, and uninventive. This band was able to write a piece of music with great atmosphere, and depth, and that connects with people on an emotional level. I find this far more important than technical mastery.
Exactly, there's several virtuosos. I mean, you can find several hundred of them on youtube, but they're not doing anything artistically groundbreaking. Not to take away from them, I mean, technical skill IS a laudable quality, but there's a difference between being a great artist and a great musician. They don't always have to be one in the same.
what about 'family tree', 'dancing choose', 'love dog'? - that's three great songs on one album (at least). I agree they've got too many 'clever' songs that you don't really get much of a buzz from listening to, and you couldn't recognizably cover without just copying the original, but I'm sure they've got some great songs in there
@mahonmic i agree completely. i found this band recently and im now obsessed with the music. just great jam out music yknow? and im VERY happy to see an african american group that isnt R&B or rap and they are damn good!
@mahonmic But some people need to be inspired by technical mastery to appreciate what they are listening to. Just saying tho, my own opinion is that I think minimalism is a technical difficulty as well.
@mahonmic you are quite right on most of that except for saying metal is boring, you obviously listen to shitty metal then, but any genre i cant handle for a long time i always keep listening to differet styles cuz to me any genre can be shitty when listening to it for too long
@mahonmic true, but keep in mind that taste in music is a matter of opinion, you can't argue that one band is better then another of a completely different genre, it's like a health-freak saying granola bars are better then cake to a fat ass who loves his cake... he's obviously going to disagree loll
