  • And i'm stuck with driving an ' 02 Ford Ranger. :( Wanna trade that for your Smart Car?!? I would in a <3Beat!

  • AAAAAAAAAAAAA SMART!!!!!! i really in love of that cars!!! <3<3<3 i have 13 miniature Smart cars :D and i'm gonna buy more ofcourse :D

  • Garbage

  • it is not immerging in the u.s..Americans hate these cars..you obama loving faggots

  • I see the next Jeremy Clarkson emerging. Nice job kid!

  • Cool

  • So are ALL smart cars Diesel's? my friend says they have 3 cylinder gas engines? i always thouight they had 4 cylinder Mercedes Diesels?????

  • @quincee33 Most of them have petrol/gas engines. A diesel version is available though.

  • @quincee33 Nooo... the point of the review is that they'd just brought out this diesel model.

Most of them have various 3-cylinder gasoline / petrol engines... though the higher capacity US edition might have been a 4-pot?

(not sure why you guys put so much stock in the number of cylinders anyhow... at this size, having, say, 6 of them would actually be a disadvantage)

  • Hmmm....odd I have a 2010 Cabriolet Passion and find the noise really low on the car, even when idling or in the first two gears (maybe they improved something?) up hills is the only time I get annoyed at the gearbox staying in gear so long and driving semi-economically I still get 65+mpg with combined city/rural journey (lots of hills mind). My last car was around 30-40 mpg and was a 1.7Di 2001, so a big improvement

  • @Apollo19852010 its because the engine is literally under the driver(almost) and there's not alot of dampening. all smaller diesel engines are louder by default.

  • Like for me its cool video... nice job

  • So why cant we get this version in the USA? All we get is the gotta run on premium and your lucky if you get 40 mpg out of it.

  • @adamslurch71 because people dont buy diesels here, stupid.

  • @deedundone That's odd b/c I can name off over a thousand people right now that would, The fact remains that if not given the choice how would anyone know what the American public would or wouldn't buy? It's also the fact that the Government of this shit country wont allow the diesels here b/c they still think they are dirty and pollute more than a gasser.

  • @adamslurch71 We can have Diesels here? Volts Wagon Advertises Clean Diesels LOL, Turbo Diesels Are sold here all the time, but Automakers Dont Sell Diesel Cars Because America Has Always, in the last 40 years anyways, used Regular, Super, and Premium Gasoline's.

  • @deedundone It's b/c there is that old imagine when it come to diesel, people think its dirty and smells and the engines are loud. it the simple fact that America is full of morons that think the HP an engine produces is everything, what they don't know is the HP is just a made up number, torque is whats real. and before anyone tries to flame me for that comment, torque can be measured, HP needs and equation to figure out.

  • @adamslurch71 I agree and Disagree. Your right on the idea of Diesel, Even gas stations are part of the problem, it is almost odd for a car to pull up at the Diesel pump. Point in Case, It hink in 50 years, we will see a different America, hopefully one with out so much emphasis on v8's and speed, and one on having cool cars, but also having an efficient one to commute in. I also hope that Walmart goes bankrupt before I die, for plenty OF REASONS.

  • @deedundone Well I can see every point here, especially Walmart...lol. But seriously I wont even care about America in 50 Years, I will be out of this sad excuse for a country soon and I'm never going to look back. Plain and simple I hope after I leave that someone out there grows some balls and gives America what they deserve. Its about time someone stood up to the bully.

  • @adamslurch71 Gives America What it deserves. Isnt that What Al-Queda did? NO, I wish Someone would stand up and stop pandering to Special interests and the rich, and the run amuck corporations, and bigotry.

  • @deedundone Exactly what I was thinking, just b/c I said a bully gets what they deserve doesn't mean fight them, it means do what actually works, ignore them, take away what they want and move on with your life. I would love to hear one day that the people of this country have stood up and disbanded the governmental system and found a better way to run the country that works not only for its own people but for the world.

  • @adamslurch71 Aaaactually no. Once you're out of 1st gear, it's horsepower that's what matters for speed and acceleration. A higher torque figure simply means you don't have to rev as high in order to get a certain amount of power (but a car with a low peak torque rpm might still need to be revved quite hard to get the best HP & therefore speed).

PS coulda sworn the yanks were all about big torque stats. I agree though that they think you need 200HP to make a car go when 50 often does just fine

  • @adamslurch71 Most Automakers Opt out of Diesel, But Chevy is thinking about putting one in the Cruze, Clean and Quiet Diesels may be on the Rise, just like Hybrids, Alternative Fuels, and Electrics are.

  • @deedundone

    * most North American automakers

  • @adamslurch71 Also blame early 80s dodge (?) experimental diesel cars & the VW Rabbit diesel - both horrible non-turbo, indirect injection lumps producing about 25hp/litre, and in the former case, terribly unreliable. Even in europe, diesels of that type weren't hugely popular in the 80s/early 90s and were seen as the choice of scrooge-like characters and farmers who ran them illegally on tax-free tractor fuel.

Somehow you guys largely missed the TDi, direct injection, common rail revolution...

  • @adamslurch71 Maybe we should invite the guys in charge of whatever department has the final say on letting various engine types onto your roads and let them have a drive and lab test of, say, a VW Bluemotion, or the used, *2003* Renault I'm picking up next week. 1.5L, 80hp CTDi type engine, fairly quiet, makes almost no soot thanks to electronic control and a particle filter (ensuring it didn't make smoky clouds was a pre-purchase check!), super-low CO2 / NOx emissions, very little smell, etc..

  • @adamslurch71 not you, the fact lol.

  • @adamslurch71 It's your bizarro emissions control laws which neuter euro-spec engines so badly that they end up even more slow and inefficient than your own after crossing the pond, and the diesels seem to suffer even worse than the petrol ones, so much that I think it's only VW and Merc who have so far had even limited success producing home consumer grade TDis with decent power & economy for the NA market.

I wonder, what's the typical CO2 g/km & other emissions rating of a domestic US engine?

  • i love the diesel one its so good on fuel never have to fill up and very nippy even on the highways dont try to put veg oil in it i tried and was a bum to start first time for whole day ive never had difficulty using veg oil in a diesel motor ive used for years ,i think it might have something to do with the parts being so small easily clogs up the injectors got it started again but that was a gamble on brand new car thought i had destroyed, it thank God , seems i only have worn the ignition

  • A new engine is only 1000 Euro's, so lets blow up all our engines and show that we are fast in our smarts!!!

  • 54 horsepower, 45 was the old model! Teardrop shape? Er no! Aggressive looking to fight off buses? Run out of good things to say..... 16.8 secs 0-60....ffs

  • Nice review, thinking of getting one myself, either this colour combination or black. Going for the CDI as I use the motorway quite a bit, just how noisy is it though? I test drove the petrol, but might go for a test in a CDI soon. Also, can the passenger seat fold down to enable large items in? Al

  • Turns out that most of the CO2 in a car is produced when its manufactured... funny how they never fess up to that (hidden) figure.

  • Great review - and hopefully the newer engines that Mercedes-Benz is now installing don't lead to complications like some of the earlier CDI's have experienced (e.g. my 2006 model is currently not working - engine died after 61,000 km - which should not have happened). Trying to get Mercedes Benz Canada/Germany/UK to realise that there is a flaw that should be recognised and fixed before a serious accident happens on the motorway with engine failure. Look for reports on Facebook for more info!

  • @FatCatAnna engine died after 61000 km? :) u r such a bad driver

  • @ktosi11 - LOL - turns out CDI engine died due to mechanic letting a piece of metal gasket fall into one of the chambers! Oopsie. So, we didn't have to fork out $10K for a new engine (which we couldn't afford - we were going to leave the car of the MB lot ). MB dealership assumed all costs - and we now have a new engine - with a 2-year warranty. A

  • Excellent review! It's completely Top Gear style!

  • Bring it to the US!!!!

  • как-то уж больно ахтунгово чел себя ведёт

  • what language is that??

    hes speaking trouth the NOSE???

    is he gay=?

    plz answer me

  • @TheKevinJustinJason he speaks fine but he probly is a faggot...

  • Wanna read about CO2 & being green? Read ClimateGate by Brian Sussman.

  • I was wondering why you were getting in the wrong side of the car, lol. Good job on the vid!

  • @adxoplo

It took Mercedes 10 years to bring their superb CDI Smart into the UK in right hand drive and the new model has the new 54hp engine.

Up until February 2009 all Smart ForTwo Cdi were left hand drive models and their second hand value here in the Uk is poor because of it.

People prefer right hand drive vehicles and for a left hand drive to sell here in the Uk its got to be a pretty special car.

  • how much is it

  • whats the mpg

  • @zizidba23 83

  • @zizidba23 75-80mpg I get from mine, with the roof down / climate control on

  • @alecsmith - roof down and climate control on? Isn't that like having your heating on and letting it all out of open doors and windows, i.e. ironic?

  • @Cyberwwwizard I meant either/ or. Either having the roof down OR having the climate control! I do have the heated seats on with the roof down occasionally

  • @alecsmith - ok fair enough.

  • I've owned a cdi for six months. It's brilliant on fuel. However, i feel Mercedes build quality has deteriorated in contrast to my old mer from '94! Anyhow the smart does about 70 mpg on a run driven sensibly and 60 mpg city. Zero road tax too. Suspension is stiff and I've had heater problems and electrical gremlins. Pretty good car overall :)

  • Compare this review with that of Rory Reid's.

This lad clearly likes the Smart especially in it's Cdi trim and it clearly shows in this excellent video.

  • I don't think he tried auto. If you leave it in manual and don't change, it will change automatically at the rev limit.

  • Is it the new 2010 54 HP CDI version???

  • No, it won't be, it will be the 45 bhp version. The 54 bhp engine won't be available until the spring 2010 at the earliest.

  • @hiyadroogs

Gordon in Manchesters Smart Dealership already has two 54Hp Cdi up for grabs but with the old kit ie no Pioneer Sat/Nav or Rev/Clock as standard.

There was a particularly snazy Pulse all in Black with the new 54hp engine with all the 2010 kit onoard.

Im buying a CDi Pulse next year but cannot decide on overall spec or colour

Metalic Silver with glass roof and armrest

All German Mercedes should be silver so metalic silver it may have to be with a Merc badge on the bonnet

  • Thanks for the info llandudnoboy! I only wish I could afford one right now! Have a great Xmas & New Year!

  • Gordon at Manchester Smart was so nice that he gave me the keys of his testvehicle with paddleshifts so i could try them out.

He knew me well enough but off i went by myself in a brandnew Passion with sat?nav and sports wheel.

They felt strange at first but worked beautifully.

I have been saving hard for the last two year to buy a Cdi and will buy it next June..

Take a test drive of a cdi and see what you think.

Have a great christmas and hope 2010 is a good one for you.
