ZJ's all the way. i have a 1997 fully loaded all black ZJ with the quadratrac 4x4. i took it to the desert the first week after i got it and attacked blown sand at ocotillo wells with stock, but brand new cooper tires and they were deflatted at 20psi. the Zj went up blown sand with no problem at all. the quadratrac all time 4x4 also makes drifting really fun and soooo controlable.
@xboxisbetta Unless your XJ is pre 1996, a 4.0 XJ weighs within 700lbs of the ZJ with a V8. Its not like a ZJ is heavy like a pickup truck. In stock form, the V8 ZJ has more ground clearance.
Lets put it this way, my mostly stock v8 with 31" MTRs (and 200k miles) goes everywhere my friends 2001 xj with 33" KM2s. And my other friend with a 94 on 30" bighorns can't keep up, always needs a yank out of the mud. I am usually the one picked to pull people out of mud because I have torque
Ok this time the grand cherokee LIMITED wins vs the explorer XLT, now let's compare the grand cherokee LIMITED with the explorer LIMITED and see who win:)
@ar15freak Got any proof to back that claim up. From everything I have read, the 318 is about as durable as an engine can get. TBH I cant think of anyone who has blown a 5.2 in either a jeep or a dodge. The transmission attached will probably die though. However I know of a few people who have trashed 5.0s in mustangs, a bronco, and exploders.
Like he says in the test, when Ford FIRST put the 5.0 in, they did it only in 2WD, but soon after, Ford put the AWD system in it during the same model year, 1996. Otherwise, Im sure they would have had one here.
He Is not right my 96 explorer came with the 5.0 V8 and its all wheel drive i also outran a jeep with the V8 by 3 car lengths and my front seats are all electric
Ned Flanders is correct if you want a better 4x4 get the jeep in this case, the X is to long and even if 4x4 would struggle.. That being said I've been around jeeps long enough to know they can be very fragile at times, they just don't last as long idk why. But... Get a 98 sport X with AWD and it'll change everything, it's faster than the v8 and better offroad IMO, with right tires you'll show up a few saharas.
@jeepthing98 Haha, right? I'm sure he has it but either hasn't uploaded it yet or is just letting me have my one really popular car video out of kindness.
I have that exact jeep but with black leather, U cant ask for a better vehicle. This is a 96 and still competes with the best looking suvs out there today. Also these "bigger better" suvs/ giant trucks are just wasted space, more gas consumption, less options, less reliablity, weaker plastic parts, more expensive to fix. This jeep, is a rock. 210,000 km now, nothing major eve gone on her, no tranny work nothing.
i hate how GM never put a v8 on the s-10 blazer cuz im sure it could have beaten these two. cuz its 4.3 v6 made 190hp and 250 lb ft of torque but the blazer still towed 5500 lbs and it was lighter than these two. but i guess here the jeep is much better even if it costs more. its engine is a one of a kind.
I'd choose jeep over ford any day! Too bad I don't have $40,000 to buy one. I tested out a new 2011 jeep grand Cherokee limited with a HEMI and I loved it! I went back to my old beat up jeep and looking at it in the parking lot and then looking back at the one I drove, I almost started to cry
@nakabar Not what I meant you dumbass. I meant original price it was 37000, and now they are so cheap. I didnt say anything about how much it was in the states compared to canada. I simply said what the price is current, but I said it in CAD as I don't know about the american automotive industry. I was simply speaking how much they've gone down over the years, not that we have cheaper prices, so why don't you go get a clue.
The Jeep is better, has always been, even today. But the Ford always outsells it. Whatever, both of these will be gone soon. Ford will give up SUVS and Jeep will probably declare death. I will miss Jeep. ;)
@DualofChaos I think Ford mostly outsells the Jeep because of price. The Grand Cherokee can easily get into Land Rover territory. A current HEMI is $45k. Jeep is a pretty well respected brand, even by Ford & GM fans. I don't think Jeep will die like Hummer. Even if Chrysler evaporates, someone will come in to save iconic Jeep. Besides, have you seen the 2011 Grand Cherokee?? It's hitting dealers later this month and is pretty kick-ass.
@AhJotahTube I have seen the new Grand Cherokee. Its awesome. But Jeep is doing the worst right now, even compared to Chrysler. It seems that the desire for SUVs is declining. I am a GM fan, but i still like Jeep. Jeep's future is uncertain. I hope it lives on, it deserves to.
@DualofChaos Well, one year later and you were wrong on both predictions. Ford is selling SUVs left and right and Jeep is getting stronger by the day.
@Cylence01 Dude, our Ford Explorer 2006 V8 is a street race car kind of. It does 0-60 in just about 6,3 seconds. So shut the fuck up about shit like that.
well the info was all wrong on towing too. the explorer tows 6700lbs on a reciever which should have been easy to see if he knew the v6 could tow 5500lbs but hes just a script reader i guess. both are good just depends on what you use em for.
sorry i just realized this is a 1996 explorer... mines a 98.. they gave it gt-40p aluminum heads from the mustang in that year which boosted it's 0-60 to 8 flat.
that same 210hp 5.0 v8 (mind you) has 288lb-ft of torque which back then was the same or more than most half-ton pickup's.. that torque is available from 2700-4200rpm which is great.. i have a 98 5.0 mountaineer with front driveshaft removed so it's a 2wd posi-track
PFFFFFF, interior space......have you ever tried getting your spare tire from underneath your car in the middle of freezing winter, when the tire is covered in frozen sludge and salt? ADVANTAGE JEEP!
@ika6667 How dare me let go a few square feet of trunk space for a way better tire location. You are right. I live in new england and own a 1994 jeep grand. getting the spare tire out looks easy, though i have never had to do it (knock on wood). I dont want to crawl under a salty slush pit to get to a salty slushy tire. as you said before ADVANTAGE: JEEP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jeez....the info on the explorer isn't even correct, the v8 came with optional all wheel drive and you could get it with the eddie bauer and limited models. This must have come out way before they were sold or the show just didn't know what they were talking about lol.
Not sure but I think they did this right when the V8 came out, probably even before it was on sale. So they probably added more options to it as the months/years went on. Funny a V8 with 210 hp lol The 2011 Mustang V6 will have 300. Love technology.
210 hp-288lb-ft of torque.. laugh all you want.. 8.0 second 0-60 stock on 87 fuel with 100,000 miles on it.. laugh at that.. whats even funnier... i bought it 2 years ago for 600$ it's fully loaded and everything works..

@xboxisbetta Do not underestimate the ZJ with the 318. When equipped with similar tires it will almost always outdo an XJ.

just an over all more durable motor than the jeep's V8.
HOWEVER, no one can say that the jeep 4.0 I6 is bad. it's is arguably one of the most durable motors ever built
