negate my last comment, i did some research and realized you were pitched for the sox. however i'm sure you know the guys i'm talking about and can share some frustration.
Honestly, it's guys like you that piss me off. Coaches that never really made it in baseball so they try to coach, then when they realize they aren't good enough to be a coach at a school or something, they make these stupid videos to sell to little league dads that know even less. It doesn't take a genius to look at the best pitchers ever and just say "throw like him."
I don't think Tim's mechanics are odd, I think they are revolutionary. If you look back at others in baseball you can see Tim's mechanics in Nolan Ryan, Sandy Koufax, Greg Maddux, etc. His dad trained him on these mechanics while playing youth baseball. MLM pitching theory from these cookie cutter pitching coaches is just rubbish. You dont' have to be 6'2" 220. And to think Tim's mechanics can't be copied is just idiotic. In fact, a youth pitcher can probably train his body better/sooner.
Iincecum does a fantastic job of using his legs when he pitches. THAT is a lesson that young kids can safely use. However it is impossible for an 8 year old to mimic Tim Lincecum's motion. An 8 year old weighs roughly 60 pounds, Lincecum weighs 170 pounds. The ball is too heavy relatively for a 8 year old to copy the form of lincecum. His body is simply not strong enough. However Lincecum's stride length is something that any baseball player should strive for. Kids should replicate that.
the old ass wind up if you mean momentum pitching, it actually works. look up, "whitey ford momentum pitcher", thats how i pitch and i gained velocity and use my arm less because im keeping my hips moving towards the plate and it whips my arm around. you need momentum to pitch. mills knows what hes talking about and his pitching is backed by scientific research.
@antflrs I wish someone would have the ability to flag idiots like yourself. This is a video for little leaguers and you get on here dropping f-bombs. If you disagree with the techniques being taught, why don't you get some education and learn to express yourself in a more positive manner. There are 8-10 year old kids on here reading your brainless remarks. Grow up.
wow he can be a really good pitcher but his progression frm 8 to 9 is horrible frob his planting foot his mechanics his released slowed up and his mechanics are much better when he was 8 in my opinion
This kid shouldn't be trying to copy Lincecum's mechanics he's going to end up hurting himself!Lincecum's mechanics work very well because he was taught it!This kid is not lincecum so he has no idea what he's doing!for example he's not kicking high enough and i can tell he's not very flexible and Lincecum is VERY flexible!!!
@paramore27girl wow hes 8,9 years old he has plenty of time to learn and develop, if you knew anything about baseball nobody is going to be exactly the same as another player, but he's being taught to emulate lincecums mechanics.
Im just saying he shouldn't try to copy someone elses mechanics especially someone like Tim Lincecum cause he might hurt himself!no need to get so defensive!!!
@paramore27girl....i agree 100%...dont listen to rammy....he should rammy his own fist into his ass...i think its dangerous to encourage little leaguers to throw like that kid...all things considered, his mechanics are not something young kids should be trying to straight up copy....teaching a good full body delivery is one thing, but lincecum undoubtedly developed his oddball mechanics over a period of many years and a lot of kids are looking for quick gratification...which could mean injury
This kid should not be trying this motion. Lincecum's mechanics are sketchy but it works for him due to the fact he is extremley felxible. He can walk on his hands for ex. It works for Tim and only Tim. Secondly the kid is doing it wrong cuz Tim doesnt bend his elbow nearly as much as people think.
I dont care for his throwing arm action either AND I dont like his head movement either..although linny does it I would not CONDONE that head position..
As the 9 yr old he doesn't extend through his motion, which then reduces the leverage and changes the timing of the body. He needs to tilt to 1st and keep a straight back while extending his arms like doing a cartwheel.
I don't think he's pitching as fast as Lincecum. For sure Lincecum is faster

Tim's mechanics are very odd but they work for him. And if you should try to copy somebods form, try to copy some other pitchers form not Lincecum's.
