Unions = Socialists who are too stooped and lazy to form cooperatives and go into business for themselves, so the labor serfs ask the king for moar bred, and get backed by the government who cut their balls off. HAHAHA Unions, what a joke.
WHY ARE uNIONS A BAD THING? UNIONS ARE THERE TO PROTECT THE AVERAGE AMERICAN WORKER FROM gREEDY PSYCHOTIC, VULTURE CORPORATIONS FROM EXPLOITING WORKERS AND GIVING THEM PROTECTION AND A DECENT WAGE SO THAT THEY WONT BE WORKING FOR 3 cENTS AN HOUR HOW IS THAT BAD? uNIONS DETERORIATE THE GREED OF CAPITALISM AND KEEPS CORPORATIONS FROM EXPLOITING PEOPLE SUPPORT ALL UNIONS!
Where there is genuine democracy there are trade unions; they are an indispensable feature of an equitable democracy. They are responsible for the relatively high standards of living in the Western world; there effectiveness is the reason American working class Americans can delude themselves into thinking they are "middle class". Just a shame US unions as so Right-wing and anti-socialist; that's one reason they're far less effective then the once were.
Unions aren't bad thing. They were created to prtoect workers rights. Sure there's going to be some corruption in them but destorying them is not the answer because without them we can be forced to work harder then needed and get paid less then we deserve. Look at china. Do you wanna end up like them?
How about this one I have to take public transportation and one day the driver passed me by with a half empty bus turned and looked at us and gave us the bird. Our calls and complaints fell on deaf ears because the driver has a union.
The fact is where I'm from it doesn't matter how hard you work, it makes no difference. Companies want you to crank out massive amounts of product only to lay you off when the bottom lines says so, "Hurry and make me money then cut you loose" They want 50 instead of 5, but knowing if you crank 50 out you will be unemployed 3 months out of the year. People want to work and get paid a fair wage, they are tired of being exploited.
i'm a hardworking man working my second union job (for pay only) I agree 100% with what you say and honestly unions disgust me!!! and i dont understand how they get the majoritiy of work! i think it is liability issues, i mean fuck if you have 5people doing a 1 man job and 1 out of a 100 hurt themselves ina yr your lookin alot better i suppose! now this does make sense for tar sands companies that make 300 mil in a quarter eh?
Public sector unions are the bigger problem. There is a perverse relationships between union bosses and Democratic politicians. They control both sides of the bargaining table and screw the taxpayer over and over. Unions protect the status quo and prevent real reform in failing schools, forcing kids in bad inner city schools to stay there.
@ace8842 Allow me to change a few of your words: "There is a perverse relationship between corporations and Republican politicians. They control both sides of the bargaining table and screw the taxpayer over and over."
@howedesign General Electric and General Motors were Democratic corporations that we paid for to get bailed out. Not all corporations are Republican, though more so lately because Obama has been so anti-business. Bailouts always screw the taxpayer, but they aren't all Republican. Unions spent more on the 2010 election that anyone, including corporations, even though Republicans/corporations were the people most upset by Obama and his administration.
@ace8842 What I'm pointing out is that your generalization is wrong. I never claimed all corporations were Republican or Democrat. In fact, most corporations contribute to both causes, though some unequally. General Motors is making a profit and is paying the taxpayers back with interest. Therefore, bailouts do not "always screw the taxpayer" but actually benefit us with more jobs and more viable industries. Only un-American folks won't help American corporations survive. Are you un-American?
@ace8842 In "Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission", The Supreme Court overturned elements of the "McCain-Feingold Act" and allowed corporations AND unions to engage in "electioneering communications". So, conservatives who hoped for an advantage by this ruling have unleashed the power of the people to counter corporate lobbying. If unions contribute more to the political debate than corporations, that's because THE PEOPLE outnumber corporations.
This is exactly whats happening at Navistar. We don't need unions anymore.

Hard to believe this guys story.I have found the opposite to be true.I have been a union
electrician for 20 years, I have NEVER been told to slow down.Typically we will try to find
the most efficient way to complete a task.My job as a union electrician is to make sure
the contractor makes a profit. If the contractor losses money and goes out of bussiness I
will not be able to work for them anymore. So my future depends on the succuss of union
contractor. UNION=get it done right the 1st time
