I wish this version was the one on the album. The dual vocalists trading lines and harmonizing around the 3:30 mark really brought this performance up to an amazing level.
Actually, two Grammies were awarded: one for the album (Best Classical Crossover Album) and one for this song (Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalists).
Being a part of the choir in this performance was truly a once in a lifetime experience and something I will never forget! This is amazing music to sing. I hope they come back to New Orleans soon! @2:29 I am the one all the way to the left.
This is my first comment ever on YouTube. I could believe I'm also seeing replies from the performer! What an honor! I'm a big fan of video games but Baba Yetu makes Civilization IV such a different one.
@KendrewAmir Dear Kendrew, I can't describe how I LOVED this song as I first heard it in the game, but you did something that I didn't think possible: through your vocals, you made it even more beautiful.
You truly sing from your soul, with a voice that is proud, humble, strong, and emotional at the same time.
@Commodore4life THANK YOU A THOUSAND TIMES! I truly appreciate that! People like you are why I continue to do what I do! I even spoke about it on my FB fanpage! XOXO!
Wow. The two singers are a blast, they made an already awesome symphonic piece even more epic. You can see on them that this is not merely a gig for them: They sing in harmony, from their soul and in perfect resonance with the choir and the musicians.
Kudos to them, to Cristopher Tin, to Sid Meier, and -obviously- to God.
I like this song... I just wish I knew what they were saying... Like what it meant in english... When I saw this live they had a different guy than the one on the right... I don't know his name...
I saw this live in LA and immediately bought the CD. This song is by far my favorite, check out my full review of E3 and Video games live at gameninjax.blogspot.com

@DeMVanAap You sir are ignorant....no hard feelings just a little unaware.....indeed the lyrics are the Lord's Prayer in Swahili....but translated they to not come to be the same....much is actually left out.....and even though it is a Christian Prayer put in the form of absolutely beautiful music that does nothing to take away from the EPIC nature of this song......Instead of disliking something for no reason other then ignorant hate.....you should try liking something just because it's good!!
@DeMVanAap But this has a lot more than lyrics, i'm atheist and yet i love this song. I can't care more, the music in all is aweasome, that is what matters. Deserved Grammy!
When they told Christopher Tin to compose a song for the game, he must've misunderstood them and thought they wanted him to compose a song for the Olympic Games! XD
Amazing Song. Discovered it thanks to the grammy, can't stop listening to it since. Never played a second of Civilization IV neither, but what a great song !
So good to see that video game music is getting recognition
Finally! Game-music has always been an awesome music genre! I love the fact that it actually won a Grammy! I hope there will be more game-music in the grammy awards of the future!

Our father, you who are In Heaven, our father, Amen! Our father, you who are Hallowed be thy name! You give us today our food What we need to be forgiven our mistakes, Teach us to forgive those who make mistakes against us. Do not let us fall into temptation In the trials we face But deliver us from evil or madness, you who are forever and ever! Thy kingdom come, for thy will To be done on earth as in heaven. Amen! Our father in Heaven Hallowed be thy name. Our father.
@KendrewAmir Absolutely incredible job on the song man, this song deserves to not only be nominated, but to win as well. Both your voices are amazing btw.
