Hey dude. You're just like me. I have a 98 NBM v6 and I have it because of insurance costs. However, I was able to modify the exhaust, buy a Whisper Airlid, and a K&N filter. Also, I did the Free Ram Air kid.
@OphidianLord yes it's possible. Just about all the LS engine are the same. Most people consider it a waste of money to swap an LS engine with another LS engine. You could just buy the LS9 parts and put them on the LS1 and it would be the same things
put u a ls1 in that bitch! just dont tell the insurance lol and the ram air hoods are about anywhere from 400-600, but then u have to get it paintes, but mostly all of them come black so i dont know
@SilverSkyFilms1 its not the easiest thing but can be done.. im saving up for an lsx swap on my firebird.. search in google for firebird v6 - v8 swap .. there are many threads about this in different forums.. u'll need engine,trans,pcm , and more parts i cant really list here.. good luck
damn near just buy another 'bird. look for an LT1. i have a 3.4 v6 firebird, black on black like yours w/ a T/A functional hood. its my commuter car. my other car is a c4 vette. in time, you can prolly just save this bird and get a v8

I actually called them a few days ago for the 2nd time.. and i asked them about insuring me on a T/A.. they still said doubt they could do that, and even if they could.. cost me bout $400-$500 a month.. thats wayy to much for me.. i pay $125 on this car.. which is really good figuring i dont make a ton of hours/money now that im back in school.. down the road tho.. def gonna get myself a T/A.. probably WS.6
@SilverSkyFilms1 Doing a V8 (I'm assuming you'd wanna do a LS1) swap wouldn't be EXTREMELY tough if you had a cherry picker and the tools. It's something you could manage to pull off with 1 day of good work. The problem you're going to run into with doing a LS1 swap on a Firebird is going to be everything else you'll probably want to change. You're going to want to upgrade the suspension and transmission, and by the time you do all of that, you'll be better off to get a TA.
@SilverSkyFilms1 Well since its a 98 it has the ls1 rather than lt1 which makes it a bit more expensive. But if your wanting a trans am you could pay for a engine swap and ram air hood for less than upgrading to a ws6 i think. Them ws6 arnt cheap man and insurance will kill you. If you do an engine swap your insurance will stay the same and no one will know its not a real TA.
@SilverSkyFilms1 best bet would be find a rearended LT1 or LS1 and swap motor trans and computer into your car maybe even the rear end if its still good

That thing is wicked. The black on black really sets it out from most birds. I'm with you, at 16 I can't pay the insurance on a v8. I don't get why the v8's hate so much. Guys, it's pretty simple, MONEY TALKS. When you got the money, buy a v8. My '98 is a v6 and I'm proud of it because I dropped every penny into it without help from Mom and Dad. It looks a little rough, she just needs some TLC.

Like it. The rims look awesome. Can understand the v8 "issue" Have a 99 Trans am v8 and loving it. Bought it and are paying it by myself but its all worth it for the ls1 v8. Really great engine and car.

I can relate to your story...I bought a 91 2.8 V6 firebird for only $2500. Da car wuz in mint condition and the previous owners were nice enough to put a brand new motor and coperator in the car. The car didnt need painting but i did it anyway and i put 22" rims on it. Since the car isnt fast I decided to make it at least look better than most faster cars bt i will put a V8 under the hood someday bt insurance is high. Mines somewhere around $120 also.....

Lol i know about ur sub situation. i got two 10's and they sound like twelves cuz of the hatchback. it really depends on the t/a some have the t/a hood and some have the t/a wing and or course some have both but ya i get the same thing. ppl always ask "is it a v8?" i just wanna smack em and ask "does it say trans am or formula anywhere on it? before u start talkin engines, get some fbody knowledge" lol but ya its quick as shit for a v6 plus the mpg is amazing lol.

haha i know..i love the MPG..and for me not gettin too much money, thats a plus..im gonna eventually get a v8 and do a bunch of stuff to it..but not too much for this one..but shes pretty quick..of the v6s ive raced..ive beaten all of them..some of the more "impressive" ones is a gt mustang..and a gmc sierra denali truck (i think? idk its fast as hell tho haha) and i also beat a z28 before..it was in shitty condition..so idk if it wast "up for performing" but..ill take it haha

Like it. The rims look awesome. Can understand the v8 "issue" Have a 99 Trans am v8 and loving it. Bought it and are paying it by myself but its all worth it for the ls1 v8. Really great engine and car.

I, like you, am paying for my car and cant wait to hear all the "oh that's a nice car that your daddy got you." lol. but that is one sweet whip you got there and cant wait to get mine!

Yours is really clean and looks great!

thanks man! yea i wanted to get the trans am hood also..and a bunch of other stuff..but i figured i do the audio system..and a few other things like a few performance..but i dont wanna spend a ton of money on it when down the road ill trade it for a v8..but thanks man..yea the cars in really nice condition..i keep it really clean..wash it like 2 times everyday (haha nah..but sure seems like it)

I can relate to your story...I bought a 91 2.8 V6 firebird for only $2500. Da car wuz in mint condition and the previous owners were nice enough to put a brand new motor and coperator in the car. The car didnt need painting but i did it anyway and i put 22" rims on it. Since the car isnt fast I decided to make it at least look better than most faster cars bt i will put a V8 under the hood someday bt insurance is high. Mines somewhere around $120 also.....

thanks! actually i got them from one of my friends buddys whos restoring a corvette to original state..and he was getting original rims and tires..so he sold me those rims and 4 good tires for $400 for all four! its such a steal! hes a car collector and might have more..i mean idk where u live and stuff..but id be happy to help..and i got somone that can ship for cheap or free..
