You don't need to do that to get Zaeed's loyalty. There is a paragon speech option when Vido escapes and Zaeed gets trapped under a beam.

Well u can still get Zaeeds loyalty if you save the workers after Vido gets away say that " I don't want you on my ship"

then a Paragon option should pop up in blue text, make sure u r more paragon at this point so you can choose the option

Zaeed will say that he can put Vido out of his mind for the mission and Sheperd will help him onto the shuttle to end the mission

Check team status on private terminal and Zaeed will be loyal but I dunno whether u get the achievement/trophy or not...

Zaeed's lines are close to be the best in the game. In Arcangel's mission he knows the Blue Suns general and in Grunt's loyalty mission (or any mission in Tuchanka) he wants to bet on the pits.

There actually is a way to save the workers and gain Zaeed's loyalty, I discovered. I played and I figured I'd sacrifice an achievement to get more paragon, but after you see Vido's ship fly away you can get into conversation with Zaeed and convince him that he was being selfish, or something like that... I think you need a lot of paragon to pull it off.

Yeah, it sounds like the problem here is that you enough paragon points in order to successfully convince Zaeed if you want to get the achievement in the paragon scenario. If you want the achievement sooner than later; just make two saves before you start it. Two to make sure you don't save over both. Do the mission once as a renegade for the achievement. Then reload one of the old saves and either continue the game (to build points) or do the mission anyway as a low-level paragon.

For some reason, when I decided to help the refinery workers, I was expecting to be saving like ALOT more than their actually was.. Their were only like four workers... And in the end I didn't get Zaeed's loyalty... Whole level seemed like a fucking waste of time.

To go the paragon way, after Zaeed has started blowing the factory up, there's a paragon interupt that punches him. Then go and save the workers, then at the end, when you're talking to Zaeed, make sure you use paragon (top left) until the charm option comes up. Use charm and then he's loyal and you get the achievement!

BTW, I actually got the achievement and saved the workers, like everyone says, it takes a ton of paragon to do. Technically Vido still dies even if you take the Paragon route since Zaeed kills the pilot of the helicopter when he's firing randomly at them.

I think it is good idea if u save b4 u go in to the room where u have to decide save or not I recomend not saving them do the mission and then load back and go paragon way zain is not needed in final mission and Iam not fully sure but he will not die :)

I got this achievement from having a lot of Paragon points. After Vido gets away, you can convince Zaeed to stop worrying about it or something and you'll still get the achievement and the extra paragon points. (I think he ends up dying anyway cuz Zaeed sprays with his assault rifle and kills the pilot of the little thing they were flying. Not really sure though.)
