  • sambo + bjj = imortal

  • so who was the sambo and who was the bjj?

  • @TheJunior3600 the guy with the shoes was sambo. he had more throws as well.

  • @waldomarek oh, okay thanks

  • Cool you got to see strengths and weaknesses from both styles

  • You all need to be aware that nearly all Russian Sambo practitioners are equally brought up in Judo. So comments should be made with that in mind.

  • @thedarkknightfall Both Sambo and BJJ are descended from Judo.

  • Good match but it looked like the Sambo guy was WAY more in shape and WAY faster. BJJ guy had a guard that was hard to pass but didn't have good control of the back, which the Sambo guy gave him all day.

  • Very nice match. They seem to be very well matched too. Would love to try Sambo but no schools where I am, so I do BJJ.

  • a bad streetfighter can win the fight !

  • This is such a stupid competition. Obviously the rules are not clear to either of the fighters. If you saw the whole competition (and not just this fight) the Sambo athletes were following Sambo rules, while the competition was geared more towards BJJ rules. One Sambo guy was looking at the ref while BJJ guy was hanging on him in a guard, looking for ref to stop the fight. Also I am not sure why they stood them up at 6.26...

  • Funny a purple belt against a good sanbo fighter...next time use a blackbelt,i think in NY there are many who love to show russian fighter how they are good on their feet!!!

Remember in adcc you can do any kind of submission a throw, and who are the top fighter?

    Samboka?

    Catch wrestler?

    No Bjj fighter!!

  • by my count, sambo won BIG on points. very cool... BJJ guy should have started pulling guard right away so he didn't give up all those take-down points.

  • is this combat or sport sambo?

  • These are not BJJ rules, this is Sambo rules. BJJ doesn't work as well when you have a ref stand you up every 30 seconds.

  • Great match!

  • Lets see Catch Wrestling against Bjj,I would bet my house on Catch!

  • @Thomasgipsy We need some more updated matches contrasting individual styles.

  • @gkornegay Agreed,I am myself just full of bjj praises eventhough I have practised it,combining is the best way,but still I`m saying that top catch wrestlers will outgrapple many of the best bjj guys

  • @Thomasgipsy If you go by UFC stats the RNC, Guillotine, Arm Bar and (Judo) Kimura are the most effective submissions. I don't see any catch wrestling moves in there?

  • @gkornegay Thats correct the reason being there are no catch wrestlers in the UFC and actually Kimura has been used in Catch wrestling before Judo by the name" Double wrist lock " and 3 Gracies has been submitted by that actual move,Kazushi Sakuraba proved that Catch is equal to BJJ if not superior,BJJ lacks in takedowns, thats why wrestling is a better base for Mma

  • and what is a red belt in Sambo? because a blue belt in BJJ usually means only 1 year of training.

  • @gkornegay he has purple belt which means more than just a year of trainning dumb

  • @gkornegay In Sambo the system of graduation is a different from BJJ or Dju-do, because Russian sport has got many weird traditions.

So there are only blue and red belts for recognising fighers in fight.

  • I'm just noting the different styles to learn. Also, my compliments to that scarfhold move. I love that position and I really think he locked up that arm, don't know why the ref stood them up. There is a great sweep from there but the BJJ guy didn't use it. Imagine if you combined some of those quick Sambo throws and landed in an efficient BJJ position.

    I agree: Combine the styles.

  • Entire audience was russian mafia.

  • Why are you silly kids fighting over what one is better and not using both? Silly gooses!

  • @jeremyd2003 Spoken Like a True Martial Artist :)

  • Ran out of bounds trying to escape BJJ Heel Hook: 1:22

Ran out of bounds trying to escape BJJ De La Riva Guard 1:44

Pointlessly held onto his hand from under side mount: 3:00

Ran out of bounds again at 4:11

Stoppage at for no reason after trying to escape turtle 4:55

Actually a BJJ Scarfhold Armbar by the Sambo guy/Odd? 6:58

Again, stoppage at for no reason after trying to escape turtle 8:00

  • @gkornegay Agreed--throw and run was the gameplan for the entire first half. The scarf position was being done in shooto pre 1993/UFC/BJJ in mainstream so no doubts sambo and other arts have been doing it forever. Good vid.

  • БЖЖшник "как тряпичная кукла" ,потому-что он хреново борьбой в стойке владеет.В самбо правила заточены больше под стойку,партеру уделяется 15-20 % тренировочного процесса.

  • I love Sambo,

Thats because of the throws, BJJ has no throws in it, look @ the begining, the first throw of the sambo guy, love it !

thats why i do sambo <3

  • @SUPERxROBIN What's the point if at the end of the throw you lose total control of the situation. BJJ throws are designed to land you in the proper place with the right grips for the next move. The fight doesn't end after you throw someone to the ground. That's where the fight begins as you can see here over and over again.

  • @gkornegay When i do sambo, i make a Sutemi and i land on my opponent, i can easily submit him but the easiest way is to make a throw that land him on his back so he loses his air and is stunned.

In sambo, the game doesn't end after a take down !

  • I love how the ref is wearing jeans..xD

  • Mine...haha Aggresive Tehcnique.

  • far to easy to defend a rear choke wen u dont have to worry about getting punched.

If theres no reason to move he can sit there knees and elbow tucked and let the BJJ waste his time.

  • @Jehanam A rear naked choke from turtle is very popular, but there are also 1,000 other moves you could do besides that: Such as leg locks, arm locks, cloth and lapel chokes. An ankle lock was sitting there each time and he didn't go for it. His choice but there are way to many moves to say BJJ is limited.

  • @gkornegay

BJJ is not limited, thats the point! When ur barring certain striking techniques to free up a submission move then BJJ is not being truly utilised. If theres no incentive for the guy defending his back to change position then the BJJ is resorting to strength as opposed to technique.

There maybe a million different ways to approach that situation but theres only two or three thats actually realistic...

  • When you look at the today's competition scene it is pretty obvious that both arts have learned from each other. In a video from a recent tourney Sambo guys are hitting triangle chokes left and right, and BJJ practitioners are focusing a lot more on leg locks, throws and takedowns than before. Just see ADCC 2011.

  • @TeeteringBulb Agreed. The whole point of BJJ is to continue the science experiment and not hold to rigid idealogy.

  • That was awesome, you can see clear advantages to each art in this performance..that level of competition is insane..so much technique....and..by god...that Russian was throwing that guy's ass around like a rag doll...so much awesome, lol

  • @Saforge Again. The Sambo guy had great takedowns, that left him nowhere. I never heard of someone getting submitted via takedown. You have to do something after you take him down, which he finds out in this match. By taking down a BJJ guy you give him exactly what he wants. The fight on the ground where he knows 5,000 moves that have taken 2,000 years to perfect. Welcome to BJJ

  • @gkornegay On concrete- a good takedown can win the fight.

  • @grahamhg even better when it happen near a raised pedestrian walkway. OUCH.

  • First heard about Sambo from Fedor. Man I miss that guy in his prime, I even miss his fanboys who worshipped him

  • I wouldn't brag about sambo being so great when that guy was the one demonstrating how great it is!

  • @Swecan76 Go tell a Gracie family member that. They could all use a good laugh

  • In a way BJJ comes out like a pussy defense system, effective or not.

    WHY?

Cause in 99% of all demonstrations/fights against it they demand rules like no throws etc etc.

Hence they try and "cripple" the opponent.

Judo/Sambo etc in a real fight would toss any BJJ guy like a rag-doll and break his bones before he can lay on the ground like a baby and grapple.

  • @Swecan76 80% of all fights in the UFC, Pride, and MMA are won by BJJ. Google it because that's a fact.

  • @Swecan76 uh dude watch ufc what are you talking about ?

  • This BJJ guy have a very low tecnic of BJJ.

  • dur

  • both arts are very good, the question is in level of cometitors

  • самбист молодец - бросает красиво, но боевого толку от этих бросков никакого :)

  • Sambo is a reality based martial art. On the street a good Sambo fighter will throw a good BJJ fighter within seconds and by doing so he gets a fast KO. BJJ is only a sport which only works when the ground is soft.

  • It can even be jiu jitsu, but has no style of jiu-jitsu fighter who was born in Brazil.

  • what I'm seeing is a Sambo dude with superior takedowns and escapes but no answer to actual groundwork, then as a strategy he retreats to the match's boundary every time. It's ridiculous. Admittedly, the BJJ dude isn't as skilled as his belt would normally require but he didn't have to be since the Sambo dude's armbars sucked, too close to the body, not perpendicular. The stand-up rule favors Sambo too and not fighting from your back.

  • @mattcat83 oh, the BJJ guy needs to work on his cardio and plyometrics, since the Sambo dude was better on both accounts and probably physically stronger to boot. BJJ involves such powerful techniques that physical conditioning can sometimes be lacking even at higher belts, which is what makes competition all the more important.

  • Sambo vs bjj it works well because sambo guys grapple too. Sambo vs bjj ill put my cards on the table for sambo any day.

  • Nice video man, congratulaitions!,I think the jiu-jitsu won more but the sambo is faster!!

  • sambo was the closest thing to mma before mma came out

  • first of all sambi guy was not even russian. donno where you guye got that from but his las name was evalishvili which is Georgian and tv is also Georgian. Secondly this was not just sambo but khridoli (which was one of the many martual arts that sambi was based on). Lots of guys do not know shit about sambo or its related martial arts. Both had their ups and downs but I think that bjj guy got it

  • The Brazilian guy is a really good grappler but i think the Russian guy just over came him by how big he was I know that makes it easier for the brazilian guy to shot him but just the difference between there Heights was to great that's what I think but really isn't Sambo more of a throwing art I know there are strikes and locks but I thought it took more after judo

  • who won?

  • SO WHAT WAS THE RESULT ???

  • thats a grappling match, sambo guy would ko him in 1 sec

  • Man... The guy in blue is Russian. You can't win a fucking military Russian Martial Art Bro.

  • sambo knows he doesnt have a chance on the ground, he's just trying to survive

  • dont send an american to do a brasilians job !

  • самбист хорошенька его положыл

  • on the street a sambo practitioner would have a bjj in seconds. especially if he had a knife on him. We learn it's not a good idea to play around on the ground for a long time.

  • @Pyxo8888 i completely agree with you!!!

  • more fun to watch than a bjj comp on fast foward

  • lame

  • very very good.

  • Russian Sambo is more than just a grappling, like BJJ is...it was Russian military secret weapon.

  • @784563

    Aren't strikes allowed in Sambo?

And isn't BJJ just a modified form of Judo?

  • @MynameisAbhaySoni Actually Judo came from Japanese JJ, which is the roots to BJJ as well

  • @MynameisAbhaySoni sambo is also a modified form of judo.

  • @784563 BJJ is not just grappling. If you join a Gracie affiliate you will certainly be doing knife defense, unarmed standing techniques, and a certain amount of striking technique. As the Gracie family developed and practice THEIR Jiu-Jitsu is a complete martialart. Theres a reason why Helio didnt call his system Judo as Judo is the sport form of the Japanese styles of Jiu-Jitsu.

  • @junon Knife defense? where are you taking your classes? My gym admittedly focuses more on competition and groundwork than stand-up (other than take-downs) but nowhere on the schedule is there anything about knife defense or other melee weapon usage.

  • @mattcat83 Gracie JJ does all sorts of street fighting defenses. Ive learned a few things also but we mainly do combat groundwork stuff.

  • @mattcat83 I train at the O2 Academy in Hawaii. Relson Gracie is based out of Hawaii and we are one of the main affiliates. Relson is old school Gracie stylist. To earn a blackbelt from him you will have to know the "self defense" part of the syllabus. Matter of fact at our club specifically youll have to know the basics of the self defense techniques before you can go past blue belt. We practice a lot of the same techniques Ive seen from Sambo self defense demos.

  • @784563

    Preferably Combat sambo (taken)

    is used by the Spetsnaz

and Vympel..It is amazing..Mainly combat is for elites though..This style seems to be traditional

  • @784563 Haha. How many soldiers are leglocked? Military martial art courses are short for a reason. A great army is made up by other real factors.

  • The bought are sambo....it say in the uniform sambo...blue and sambo white

  • sambo has really good projection....

  • Comment removed

  • I wonder how many women and men got hot watching this?

  • Fuck...I love sambo.

  • BJ penn was the only American that won a jiu jitsu world championship, but how many brazilian won the world tittle all ready?.U are talking about1 fighter over thousands

  • respects for both arts

  • @Imota71 lol just like your sentence did make sense for shit....lol

  • Congratulations for both competitors. Especiallu for the bjj guy, which is purple belt, far way from black belt. Very nice fight.

  • they are both good arts, each arts have there strong and weakness.

  • First of all the guy fighting jiu jitsu is not brazilian he is american and american can train jiu jitsu for shit.

  • @Imota71 Go Tell that to B.J. Penn

  • It's hard to have a real fight in limited space.

  • Boring...good nite...

  • Awesome job running out of bounds, stalling and waiting for ref standups. Really sad showing for sambo. Great art.... but this guy was only interested in playing to the rules instead of fighting. He clearly feared actually grappling the bjj opponent. You should be DQ'ed for running away out of bounds.

  • good throws but no gas from either too much runnin outside from the sambo dude waitin for the ref for a stupid stand up... whats the point in all those sick takedowns if you're just gonna jump back up and u don't have the gas to maintain if your grapplin grapple, if you're standing strike

  • Got to give a credit to both these fighters. Very nice technique by both sides. I think this sparing shows, witch one of these martial arts has its strengths.

  • this is stupid, let em' work ref.

  • BJJ would certainly outclass sambo because of the focus on positions and submission locks. Sambo is more for takedowns in my opinion

  • @ThePixelMafia check out some Reilly Bodycomb vids. I think you will be pleasantly suprised on the position work and incredible array of very technical subs. Happy Holidays

  • Respect Georgian gay, did grate job.

  • @slfsrvingslave1 Dammit! Another belt to add to my list.....I'm only a junior gray belt with 2 stripes......I have a long ass way to go then

  • Sambo guy is a strong competitor, very skilled and crafty with his technique. He never played the BJJ guy's game. Went for takedowns and stayed at the end of his legs, avoiding guard extreamly well.

  • Was it just me? Or did anyone else notice that the Sambo guy ran off the mats everytime the BJJ guy had a submission setup? Kinda cowardly if you ask me. The sambo guy had amazing throws and takedowns, but the BJJ guy was obviously more skilled in submissions than the sambo guy

  • @FIRE5911 It's coz we can do a lot on our backs (no homo) we can sweep, get into closed guard, get a triangle setup, or setup an omoplata. The only way being on you back in jiu Jitsu is bad is when someone took your back, or your in mount.

  • @mfneves00 White, you can tell by the belts. Jiu Jitsu doesn't have a solid red belt

  • @ShadyGriffin actually jiu jitsu does have red, it't the highest. rickson gracie is the only red belt i know of.

  • @slfsrvingslave1 and flavio behring has a red belt.

  • respect to both fighters

  • There is not a belt system in sambo

  • Who is brazilian ? Blue or white?

  • @mfneves00 The russian is the one in blue.

  • Not saying my skills compare in anyway to the Jiu Jitsu fighter since I'm only 15 but! He was rushing through everything, when he got caught in the choke he started to panic. Always remember to stay calm and find a way out.

    I myself do Sambo xD

  • Its funny how all brazilian jiu jitsu fighters try and go to their back(2:04)

  • I'm not Gay but at 0:24 Massive ball grabbing. It just stood out. Lol

  • That looked like a purple belt to me. I'm sorry but if you don't know how to get out of a scarf hold you are not a purple belt. I don't really get the rules of this match either.

  • Sambo Forever ! Best best самый лучший !

  • 0:24 itchy balls attack!

  • Those guys from the caucuses are epic fighters.

  • It's pretty lame that the Sambo guy keeps running out of the area to get a stand-up.

  • What about Brazilian Sambo vs. Russian Jiu-jitsu???

  • and who win?

  • BJJ is annoying, the BJJ guy kept trying to get the sambo guy in his guard showing he had no confidence in anything else. The sambo guy clearly won, he dominated easily, Sambo owns Brazilian jui SPITsui.

  • первый самбист красава удивал гавнюка из бразилии

  • gay.

  • All bjj is just judo.

  • @rockie071 that comment just made you seem like a yuppie. this sambo fighter was able to escape and stand. he could have ran off and bought a hotdog and come back and outclass this particular bjj dude. what was the other dude going to chase him around on his ass lol. they could have been in the middle of a football field the outcome would be the same.

  • the blue belt does not have a chance becouse the sambo guy just goes out of bound lol

  • Is there a weight difference? The sambo guy looks way thicker

  • @retrom No just a height difference. Let's say a Short guy '5'8 weighs 180lbs a tall guy 6'2 weighs the same who's going to look heavier. The short guy.

  • SAMBO BEST!

  • Sambo guy was a true master of running off the mat and stalling. Very impressive.

  • pretty sweet firemans carry

  • sambo has the equivalent history to bjj except in russia. They both stem from Japanese Jui jitsu/judo. Sambo guys have very good lower body locks, but dont focus on chokes

  • Sambo SUPER!!!!!

  • Fedor in the crowd @ 3:21 ! p.s holy shit the sambo guy has nice moves !

  • @igordz yeah that why fedor got fucked by a triangle choke, dont talk shit

  • no leg locks???

  • For the most part, I see lots of spazzing on both sides. Then again, like most people, when I compete I too spaz and forget about technique. I guess that's why I'm not champion yet. That, and I don't sandbag.

  • Russian sambo ma azz. He is Georgian and clearly he using judo teckniks

  • @guitarpwner67 Its a competition so i'm pretty ceratin its not the guys degree level, but for scoring. Notice the Russian has on the red belt. Its crazy who they will let have a youtube account.

  • @igordz both sports are similiar and have the same root. Sambo is more real fight oriented - BJJ is more sportive and technical. I like them both - same as judo. But I especially like the sambo leglocks - in this way - sambo is superior.

  • gay

  • its crazy who they'll give blue belts to these days

  • @guitarpwner67 I think that's a purple belt or it could just a very faded blue (in which case he'd practically be purple).

  • @gregoryfromcali it is purple

  • @guitarpwner67 seeing as the only requirement to get a bluebelt is to be sixteen and to have been doing bjj for about a year, not really bro

  • @fehdrummer you forget the other requirement where you earn it...

  • @guitarpwner67 thats true i was training at one spot and i was gonn get a blue. than i left the place and this new place i train im miles away from the blue

  • @guitarpwner67 what do u want guy fight nice

  • @guitarpwner67 They used sambo gear. In sambo there are no awared belts. In competitions one guy always wears a blue belt and the other has the red one.

  • @MachoMaster thank you for clearing that up...it was really bothering me lol

  • @guitarpwner67 the fact that they can't get their belts tied right is what bothers me...they are done so sloppy even before the fight starts; bad knot, uneven ends the red belt looks like a double wrap and not on top of itself. when I did martial arts you couldn't even come in if your belt is like that.

  • @guitarpwner67 You don't think he deserves the blue? Are we watching the same guy?

  • @Einarr1989 2:26 this is not a blue belt side control... sambo guy should have been taped

  • @guitarpwner67 The Sambo guy was trapping his hands between his legs while holding his sleeve and waiting for the referee to just stand it up rather than putting himself at risk. Side control may not have been his best position but good enough.

  • @Einarr1989 he should have put his knee on the sambo guys hip, and scraped his arm out. It comes out really easily, but all in all I don't feel like debating whether this guy represents his belt or not because 1, although its good conversation, the likelihood of me changing your mind is slim, and 2, it might be that my school holds its blue belts (and belts in general) to a higher standard than that of other schools.

  • @guitarpwner67 It's one thing knowing how to do it and another being able to do it when someone is holding on for dear life and the clock is counting down to a standup. He seems middle-level blue belt to me, maybe your school likes sandbagging . . .

  • @Einarr1989 itwould be sand bagging if our purple belts didn't beat our blue belts, and our browns didn't beat our purples

  • @guitarpwner67 What's the average time in grade for a whitebelt at your club before they get their blue? Let's say someone trained for ten hours a week in BJJ at your school, they have average athletic ability, learning ability - your average Joe Schmoe off the street - how long until they got blue?

  • @Einarr1989 well it all depends on how much they train and if they progress or not, i know white belts who got there blue in a year and i know white belts who have been stuck
