Responding to the comment that they were sad and upset that these dances were not performed on Native Land....
For the Navajo it is our land. This land particularly has many Navajo remains resting on it from travels a long time ago. I was there as a representative for the Navajo Nation, this was our same concern. But the answer is simple, it is our land and it's ok. The Ribbon Dancers and Yeibichei Dancers would have otherwise NOT been ALLOWED to perform it at the Olympic Opening Ceremonies.
Sacajawea is a name that many people can not pronounce properly because they are not native speakers. He was not trying to be rude at all.Just a simple mistake.
I'm Native American and I sure as hell don't say it like that. I never even heard of it like that before till now. I just freaked at it. Well, whatever, you're probably right. He probably thinks that that is the right way of saying it.
IDK...I'm native too and I have some family up in Fort Hall and they're Sho-Ban and that's how the old ones say it even though they have a totally different name for Sacajawea.
I'm from the Goshute tribe... well anyways i remember this night, i actucally danced in it. Dang it was soo cold! lol. When i watched this it brang so much memories back, all the practices and everything... Well i am proud to Native American, and thankful that i had a chance to be in this historical event!
this is sooo beautiful i almost could cry man i wish things could have been better im sorry im sorry for the past but im looking at the futur and with this in hand i think it could be beautful!!!
"thank u for coming a long distance and making it fit; that you can perform before us... Long ago, this was the way it was done. For as we all have fore-grandmothers too, here. Thank You..."

I have always been in awe of the sheer beauty and wonder of the First Nations people, the true first Americans and Canadians.
We don't do enough to respect their cultures today, but at Salt Lake City they were honored, and in Vancouver 2010, they will be honored as well.
