And (this is a shocker)... the very first mangakas took inspiration from Disney movies. I'm not kidding. Do a research. One of the first Japanese mangas was highly inspired from BAMBI. I'm not kidding! O_O

That particular style then was copied and reused again and again, so today most manga characters have a caucasian look and really big eyes.

Well animation can be hard to differ many races. How do you tell a Japanese character from a Chinese character? Sometimes they do it by fighting style or clothes or they say before hand but it's hard. Chun-Li is many games (especially Alpha) looks like a brunette American woman. If it weren't for her clothes and her fighting style and she wore a regular clothes, she'd look American. Some like R. Mika and Karin Kanzuki do have some rather odd attributes though with the blonde hair.
