@TheArtzyVids I have seen others make clay with paint, though black - a true black is hard to acheive as anything you mix with it will get tinted in. I'll give it a try sometime though.
@unicornhorn01 I use a rough 1:1 ratio, but really it depends on how sticky or wet your glue is - the older your glue the more sticky it will become as it dries out in the bottle, and the different type of glue you are using. All glues have a different water/moisture content, which will react differently with the cornstarch.
Hello! Nice idea! I want to try it, but I am not sure of what kind of glue you are using. It's white glue like the one used for wood?I use that one for my papier maché projects, that's why I'm asking. Thank you very much for sharing this idea with us!
@xxangelicacutexx I haven't tried to use flour to make it, you could whip up a small batch and see how it works. I don't normally bake, so I don't keep flour on hand at my house as it attracts bugs and moths before I use it all up. And when I do bake, I usually use Jiffy mix.
@xxangelicacutexx I have not tried to make whip cream with it. I have seen videos of folks mixing polymer clay with oil or liquid scupley to make a pipe-able and bakeable version of whipped cream. If you add too much water or glue the cornstarch will get slimey and yucky.
Great tutorial. But I just want to tell you that cornstarch and cornflour is the same thing....it depends on where they live and what they want to call it.
@CottonCandi200 I haven't used cornflour, so I really don't know if it would work. Cornstarch is a pretty common item in most grocery stores - you can find it in the baking aisle. Flour won't be ground as fine as corn starch, so the clay you make most likely will not be as smooth.
@sd47ful I haven't used cornflour, so I really don't know if it would work. Cornstarch is a pretty common item in most grocery stores - you can find it in the baking aisle. Flour won't be ground as fine as corn starch, so the clay you make most likely will not be as smooth.
@HappyCloverNail I don't think I've ever used corn flour, so really I don't know for sure if corn flour would work as well. Try it and see I suppose. :)
@youngstunnerslol Corn starch is a pretty common item you can buy in the baking/spice section of most grocery stores. Corn starch has some unusual properties when wet, so I don't think anything else would work as well. You could try finely ground rice flour, but it would need to be really fine - like cosemetic grade rice flour. Anything else I think would be to lumpy. And the corn starch is way cheaper than rice flour, or anything that would be fine ground like it.
@xxangelicacutexx Well I'll have to admit, I had heard of decoden but never really looked too much into it. I've watched a few videos on it, and I think you are asking about the silicone (sweet treats) kinda of decoden. The airdry clay has the consistancy of polymer clay or model magic, so it would not work well for the swirled frosting and piping part of it. You could however make charms and stuff, and use silicone molds (it will adhere to plastic ones since it uses glue).
@xxangelicacutexx I think that polymer clay would be easier to make charms from without molds, and you get a rainbow of colors with polymer clay, and a 15-20 min bake time as opposed to the 24 hour dry time of the air dry clay. If you don't mind painting them it would be okay, though the clay is a little sticky due to the glue used to make it. It works well in my silicone molds, but I usually release them before they are fully dry on the back. Hope that helps.
@910roset It generally takes about 24 hours to dry rock hard. The thicker the item made the longer it may take, and also the items surface exposure to air. If you plan on making something fairly thick, I suggest wrapping the clay around something like wadded tinfoil to speed drying time, and use less material in construction.
@samsonr002 Drying time depends on how big you make an item with it, it's usually rock hard in 24 hours. I've kept some in a ziplock bag spritzed with a little water for about a week, and it's still usable.
Great tutorial. I've been wanting to make my own clay embellishments, without going to the expense of buying all the different blocks of coloured modeling clays. Thanks.

@Lovealot0405 I've only used the tacky glue, but I don't see why another white glue wouldn't work. Give it a try and see if you have some on hand.

whats the difference between this and cold porcelain.. i mean obviously the ingredients, but this seems a lot easier, it gets better when it dries?
