Exactly. The reality is that the majority of the guns that are used by organized crime in Mexico come from Asia through the Pacific. Most of the AR-15's confiscated since 2006 were not even made by Armalite/Colt but they were "copies" without serialization, and then the rest of them were made by Norinco. Reason? Profits. It's too difficult to pass an arsenal through the border and it's not profitable to buy new American guns and sell them to cartels. But from China, it is.
You have all missed the whole point. The Cartels are becoming an alternative government in Mexico. Mexico has been so stratified economically for so long that this is more of a social revolution than a drug war. Unfortunately, the people leading the Cartels are truly evil but in the long run this will play out as a social redistribution of power. Which way it will go is hard to tell.
