I read that the arp can be used as a mini sequencer but not heard much about it... Looks like a GREAT companion to a modular! No need to get a midi->CV now :)
Only thing to not love is that a few features can only be controlled via computer software. Just doesnt fit with a product aimed at being proper analogue. Not to mention that it's a liability, and eventually (be it 1, 5 or 20 years) it will stop working, and it'll be hassle to find a computer on which it will.
Rest is great, just great, magnificent little thing at great value. I think a module version for even cheaper is also a great idea!
@rivalo5 You couldn't have picked 3 more diffrent analogue mono's if you tried. You can not compare these synths. Plus the fact the pulse 2 is still in development.
yeah no shit dude, at 499 brand spanking new - other then collectors not too many are going to want to deal with the hassle of fishing for an sh101 that isnt beat up
@Novaheart1998 Crap! I was thinking about the GAIA (sh-01 I think?). Which is poly (but digital VA). Thanks for correcting me on that. The SH101 is an older model right?
@FSK1138 I don't agree. They have similar features but sound totally different. From the demos I've seen, the Minibrute can't do the juicy acid sounds that the 101 can. I still have mine preordered though :)
@VincentsVideoVisions yeah the SH 101 is early 80's. Roland likes to re-use part of the names from their hey-day back in the 80's when really the Gaia has nothing to do with any SH models, except that most of the SH models were small mono synths, and the Gaia is small - roland now has 2 virtual analog SH synths, the 201 and the 01(Gaia) and they are nice little synths that sound good but they are nothing to go ape shit over! lol.....
@FSK1138 The SH101 is still being used today, 25 years after it was discontinued, 25 years from now, nobody will give a rats ass about the Arturia... but the SH101 will still be used.....
@FSK1138 yes I'm not saying there shouldn't be innovation in small synths, everything is digital today and these new synths are reliable and sound good but there are so many and they are all basically the same that it's kind of confusing and none of them are as interesting as the original small mono synths from the 70's and 80's. Yes alot of these old synths brake down but I can fix them, keeping them running. They also sound awesome - and that's timeless.
@Novaheart1998 You know what would be great? If companies just used the same circuits they did in there old synths but stabilized them a bit to perform better in different temperatures and the like. And then added all the digital advantages (MIDI digital clocks etc.) What I really want to see though is something completely NEW. Don't get me wrong analog is great, but we've all seen analog and VA's. How about something totally unique like the Hartmann neuron?
@IAmBound Yes it would be nice but I've seen the Neuron and its too freaking strange for me, we need a synth that is 2 parts, one part true digital and one part true analog - you can combine analog and digital sources all under hi-res color touch screen control (like an iPad) WITH tons of knobs as well, and sampling and lots of memory in a sleek metal case with at least 61 full keys.... anyways you know what I mean!
@Novaheart1998 I have 12 synths, all of them are 80's synths, most are analog, I do love the new digital stuff but I buy them, try them for a year then sell them, meanwhile I never sell off the old ones, they just sound TOO good, you can not beat early 1980's analog! I use samplers too but I use 1990 Roland S770's - you can call them vintage digital if you like, I do! They sound awesome even by todays standards - they are just slower and have no memory but hey its more fun that way isn't it?
@Novaheart1998 yessir. Haha, that's why I'm actually looking FORWARD to getting a synth without memory. It forces me to be creative. I know what you mean about vintage analog digital though. I have soundbank sampled from the original Virus's (specifically Indigo 1 model) and almost all my sounds are gated, distorted, reverbed, or otherewise effected versions of those samples. As far as unique goes NI comes up with some interesting stuff but it's all VST which imho is unstable.
@IAmBound I've been thinking of getting into building some stuff, but I have no clue where to start. I've alwats had this gearheady side of me that screamed "open it up" every time I got something. I just love the whole technical side of sound. I'm sure theres ways to shrink and cheapen the cost of analog circuits too. I personally think that's the future of synths.
Awesome!

I was talking about REAL ANALOG ...and as far as i'm concerned, jp-8000 is just a digital synth...first Virtual analog from Roland.

Better to program. Many monophonic synths today. A sonicstate VS. video would be cool. Mopho vs. minibrute vs. waldorf pulse 2.

Would be awesome if it would have a rack or desktop version. I don't need more keys. If it is fat (or fatter) as the Mopho it is a great product.

A couple of suggestions:
1. more keys
2. patch storage
3. A more convenient position for the wheels

@Novaheart1998 25 years from now if you can find a working sh101
that does not need serious repair ... good luck - you really cant compare the two units newer is not always better ...
BUT $500 for a Steiner-Parker multimode filter, with midi and cv it works for me
cheers
