  • The Australian shepherd is a breed of a herding dog that was developed on ranches in western North America, particularly Boulder, CO.

  • how did they get the name aussie shepard?

  • @Crikin5 Their r many theories but the main one is n the 1700s a aussie predecessor was developed in Spain and France w/the help of Basque shepherd who used dogs similiar 2 aussies 2 herd sheep. When sheep eventually were exported 2 Australia the Basque shepherd and their sheepdogs accompanied them. In time Basque shepherd migrated to North America and brought their "australian" sheepdogs with them. These dogs were bred w/other herding dogs in the U.S. allowing the Australian Shepherd 2 develop.

  • 9 Border Collies didnt like this video

  • Ryan Seacrest...hes done it again.

  • nice!

  • I love my aussie! He's so SMART! So proud of my boy.

  • i hate FUCKING COMMERCIALS on youtube!!!!!!!!!!

  • The four main colors are Blue Merle, Red Merle, Black Tri, Red Tri, and occasionally Black Bi, and Red Bi. Get it right Animal Planet.

  • @TheJuicyEmily Yeah, they definitely forgot tri-colored.

  • Spanish Basque shepherd breed

  • They call them Australian Shephers because they Herd the Australian Sheep.

  • It took a while to find out what my dog was. This is it. Very loyal dog that was active and would stay by your side.

  • I must say that I had an Aussie a few years back and he was the BEST dog I have ever had! I would HAPPILY have another without a second thought!

  • @empiretotalwarnoob9 very funny smart guy

  • are these dogs usually ridiculously territorial? I have a 5 year old black aussy with a huge muscular ass that can jump 12 feet in the air...he also tries to kill anybody he meets and regularly "dominates" the other smaller aussie....by shoving his dick in his face and ramming him with his ass....he literally uses his ass to hit people

  • @DesertSmeagle Sorry but you don't have a very normal dog. No dog should be RIDICULOUSLY territorial and dominant like your dog. But I think that problem can be fixed.

  • @DesertSmeagle Do you have to be so R rated when describing a dog, i mean seriously this isnt a porno. Instead of ass you could say hind, and instead of dick you can say crotch. God learn some manners.

  • @LyeLye ...id say that was more PG-13...R rated would involve words like "cunt" "Fuck" "twat" and "hairy dog pusy". One of my aussies secretes green fluids out of his ass hole when he gets scared at the vet

  • @DesertSmeagle You must have something wrong with you, and have something wrong with your dogs, since what you describe is really...i dont know...what a really unwell dog would do. But yeah, good luck with that and your green fluids. Trust me im in no way offected by this, im just worried that children may see your post. You could be a bit more considerate.

  • @empiretotalwarnoob9 evil, evil evil person

  • @empiretotalwarnoob9 youve lied

  • I feel so bad for my aussie, Molly. My family should have done research on the breed before getting one. She's now 10 years old and is cooped up in her kennel attached to the shed because she's bad with strangers, really temperamental with eating, and all around not a good house pet. It's our fault for not training her well enough or giving her enough attention. I'd love to have her back in the house and train her but it's unlikely that will ever happen =(

  • They really do like to heard. Mine would nudge you and push you anytime you walked near him. awsome dog. He lasted 8 playful years with us until he got cancer. RIP Chappy.

  • @TvLoveIt Fail, my browser asked me if I want to close it so HA!

  • @empiretotalwarnoob9 Nice, but it just restarts the Ad

  • This narrator has a Mr Silly voice.

  • @empiretotalwarnoob9 1/2 the time it goes back to the adds now lol

  • This vid is a fail. Aussies come in Red and Black with or without white and or copper, and red merle and blue merle. That solid black crap is stupid.

  • @AwesomeAlan44 Why would an aussie be a guard dog? Ur an idiot for thinking that.

  • @lilypadgal101 fuck you bitch i don't know much about dogs you smartass

  • @AwesomeAlan44

you're a dumb fuck. you don't know shit about dogs. Go back to your pussy cat....

  • @bdnmiami who gives a shit about knowing about dog's go suck your wiener dog's dick you fucking smartass piece of fuck

  • @bdnmiami i know less about cats cuz i don't like em much you fucking retard

  • @AwesomeAlan44 I think you've shown that you are, in fact, the fucking retard. Worse, you are so pathetic, that you feel you need to troll on topics that you have admitted to 1) not caring 2) not knowing about. How sad for you that you need to get off by randomly insulting other people. And, your language skills show you to be about 12: consider that when you go looking to start arguments.

  • @SpamEnema i am not starting arguments you fucking retard and i am not 12 you don't even know me so shut the fuck up and stop embarrassing yourself

  • @AwesomeAlan44 ...yeah... thanks for proving my point. Does it get you all hot when you 'engage' with someone? I bet it does. I don't need to actually know you; you have presented yourself as amazingly immature and, well, ignorant. At this point, any response you make will reinforce that view.

  • @AwesomeAlan44 Then why the hell are you bothering? One can only guess that you have nothing better to do. So, there's that. I had fun with your comment to my profile, showing your stunning wit. Who knew you were a racist? Anyway, you bore me. At least learn some new cuss words. Or any words. Or perhaps you should start by trying to keep the drool off of your chin. Aim high!

  • get my australian shepherd on friday i am so excited :D they are so beautiful.

  • fuck off advertisement dude! I luv double rainbows! everyone knows that amerikan politicians are all about acandal, money, and rape. If I was gonna vote for someone, it'd be advice dog. Now he knows how to cull out the dickish and innane >:)

  • @TheVeR01 epic i award you the internet!!!

  • @voccontact get ad block pro google it , its a free firefox ad on and gets rid of all ads on youtube and facebook also AMERICANS i hate how you say auzzie its aussie start saying australia say aus -sea,

  • @katkollmer its just the way u say that word never mind i can't explain it to you unless i was talking to u because accents and the way to say it has to be sounded out by an Australian in person never mind anyway dw have a good one mate!

  • @nicko198718 oh. I have an Australian friend. I will have her say it.

  • @nicko198718 Everyone I know says aussie correctly. Maybe its their accent. Also aus is not a way to sound it out.. Have you even been to the USA?

  • @SunnySabure no i haven't my sister has went over there for exchange for 4 months i think it is the accent start to say australia but after you start saying it say the aus then say sea im not sure might be the way you say words or spell to us it sounds like oczzee i didný mean any offence just can't stand the way u say that one word sorry!!

  • They are the best dogs in the world! I have a WONDERFUL blue merle!! :)

  • Comment removed

  • who does the narration???

  • amazing agility dogs!!!!

  • @SnowFall2008 I have one! He's amazing :D

  • They forgot to mention Red Tri and Black Tri Shepherds... Oh well, glad I have my own

  • Funny how the dog has the same shades as me... Im getting an Aussie pup on thursday. Hes a blue merle but he is a "mismark" as his breeder calls him. His whole face is white despite one little speck of blue on his left ear. If anyone here is a proffesional with Aussie can you tell me if he really is a mismark or does that one speck make a difference...

  • @mrhsinger

You need to be extremely careful with this pup. He most likely has hearing and vision problems due to the lack of pigmentation in his eyes and ears. You should get him checked and make sure you know what your getting into.

  • @Damien1350 well i have him now and i got him from a very experienced breeder. Her dogs are all AKC registered and she does many shows with them and travels. If you saw the number of ribbons on the wall u would be amazed. She took the pup to the University of Central Florida to have an eye exam there, and check his hearing. He now has a health certificate and is AKC registered. We continue to check his hearing and eyesight. Thank You

  • @mrhsinger Is he a double merle? Mismark just means the color is different to what the name suggests, like a merle that looks like a black tri. A significant portion of double merle pups are born to/develop hearing/visual defects (blindness, deafness, ect.) That's something i'd be cautious about when buying white Aussies. Might be a good idea to check if the dam/sire are both merle's, and look around for more information. Defective dogs can be rather expensive, so do the research early on! =P

  • @Felidire No he's not a double merle, I met the dam, who is a red tri. His father is a blue merle but he was not owned by the breeder I recieved my puppy from. Luckily Barney (my pup) is getting bigger, and has no problems at all. He got his 3rd set of shots today and gave the nurse a wet sloppy kiss, haha. He's already very smart and well behaved. Thank you so much for your advice.

  • im getting a pomeranian but want an australian sheperd even more

  • sometimes i wish that people did not have the option to comment of videos such as this because then they start to display how knowledgeable they are and show off how well they know (or don't know for that matter) about such things.

no one cares. no asked how to take care of your dogs. no one asked how well you know the aussie.

    it sounds pompous and uppity.

  • Australian Shepards are awesome. I have one right now, and it's easily my favorite dog I've owned so far.

  • i love the blue merles coloration

  • LOOKS WISE..Aussie Shepards are the BEST ones out there !!!!!!

  • I have a miniature Australian Shepherd named Linden. =]

  • yep

  • Would you (anyone) recommend an australian shepherd for suburbia life? I live on a nice size yard. We would do agility...etc with him/her and would take him/her on a walk twice a day.

  • @MagenHorse I would! Especially since you are going to be doing all of that with your aussie. I say go for it! :)

(before anyone starts pretending to be a know it all and saying no, I know plenty about Aussies and this person would be just fine if they do what they say they're going to do!)

    Enjoy your aussie :)

  • @MagenHorse Definetly man. I had an Aussie and my grandparents have an aussie and they are wonderful dogs. Most definetly get one.

  • @MagenHorse Its an awesome breed! But yeah, exercise is this dogs best friend. High energy for sure. They also get really attached to their owners, almost obsessively. Be careful with herding instincts as well, it might try to herd family members lol. Over all I'd totally recommend this breed :D good luck!

  • Lmao im Australian and it's pronunced more how you say Ozzy. Not Aus sie, we dont pronounce both s' ;)

  • i have and 8 year old aussie. her name is jessie <3

  • I have been watching one after another of these and he always says that at the end "set apart from all others" or something along those lines lol

  • Their wavy coat also tends to collect burrs which can work through to their skin and start to burrow, causing the animal some considerable pain. Be sure to brush these out before this happens. Do all this, and you'll have one happy and healthy dog who will return your love and loyalty.

  • Also, their shaggy coat has a protective undercoat for insulation against cold and to maintain buoyancy in water. The best thing you can do in the summer is clip down the outer layer and brush out as much of the inner layer as much as possible to avoid heat exhaustion.

  • I've grown up with a lot of dog breeds- German Shepherds, Dalmatians, Springer Spaniels, Labs- and these are some of the best dogs I've ever owned. The video was right on about their energy levels in particular. They're happiest when they have plenty of space to run, meaning that you can raise them just fine in a city but you're seriously failing the dog of you don't take him/her to a park or out on a run daily.

  • Aussies are incredibly smart and very loyal. Mine had figured out how to open the interior doors in our house because he wants to be in the same room as me when ever im home.

  • this dude can't say Aussie for sh!t

  • Why are these dogs called Australian.

there is no such breed here in Australia now or ever.

No Aussie farmer would have such a dog they would not last a month in the outback they use Australian cattle dogs instead.

  • @ImeAust The reason they have that name has to do with how they came to be in this country. Actually they weren't the aussie's we know today just yet. Cross breeding is what gave us these beautiful Shepherds but they were named a very long time ago based on how they came to America.

  • @ImeAust It's a misnomer that came about when Basque herding dogs were imported to the US from Spain via Australia to pick up sheep en route. The people who took delivery assumed that since the sheep delivery came from Australia, the dogs did too. He explained it in the video.

  • I love these dogs. I use to have 2 on my farm house when was a kid. But too bad I can't get one. I live in an apartment now =(

  • My childhood dog was an aussie and she was great. We got her when she was 3 or so and she was a little wild at first but we had a nice place for her to roam free. She would chase cars and strangers when we first got her but I think that is because she came from a house where she was inside most of the day. She chilled out after a couple years. Very cool dogs if you got some space to raise them and have a little time to walk them. I want to get one but I would feel bad in an apartment.

  • how much are they? Are they expensive? Because im only 11 and i have an italian greyhound, but i really want to get an aussie when im older. Can someone make a video about everything and send it to me? Thanks! Go Aussies!

  • Depending on what you get they range from 500-2,000 but most are around 500-1,000. It depends on what you think is expensive.

They are great dogs though, if you train and exercise them (at least 30 mins a day). If you aren't willing to do that, I'd say find a different dog..

  • thanks a lot. I am really willing to do that. I t will be worth it. I think i will tech it tracking or hunting. Do you have one?

  • @Wolfoxtail. Yup I have one (and had one prior to this one that is no longer with us), and I helped my sister train her puppy.

I would not get an Australian shepherd as a hunting dog though each and every one I have ever had or known is afraid of loud noises. They try to run and hide when something loud goes off.

But they are great at tricks and agility training.

If you want a hunting\tracking dog I'd look for a different type of dog.

  • @RLWSNOOK410 Well, I use a bow for hunting, so I thought it could retrieve arrows. Plus the bow isnt loud like a gun or crossbow. Would that be okay?

  • @RLWSNOOK410 If you pay keen attention and talk to lots of reputable breeders you can sometimes get a really good deal. My 5 month old Aussie with championship blood lines from both parents cost me only 300.00. I bought him from a breeder in Austin Tx. That is just a wonderful person.

  • I love my aussie toby black tri male gorgeous!! he's my baby boy so smart and amazing

  • if it wasn't of my BC, It would have been that kind of dog =D

  • We had a Red-Tri named Bounder who lived to be 16 1/2 years old. Healthy until the final 6 months. A great friend, loving and intelligent. We miss her as does Mollie, our other Aussie who is 9 years old.

  • We got into Aussies about 9 years ago when we learned more about them and ended up with a black-tri female, hands down the smartest, and highest achieving dog we've ever owned. she had a big personality, learned tons of tricks, did therapy work, and even became a back up service dog for a friend in case her dogs ever were sick or injured.

We lost her to an aggressive cancer in may last year, but she was a great example of this breed's versatility.

  • For all you people who are insulting Americans, it's not spelled OSSY. It's spelled Aussie. So don't start calling US idiots.

  • it's ozzy not ossy

  • its Aussie not ozzy or ossy

  • wow that is UNBELIVIBLE!!!

  • Aussie not ossy lol

  • Incredible

  • Ok.... AMERICANS! please take note....

    It's pronounced OZZY, Not OSSY!!!

  • Americans are idiots these days lol

  • I have 2 Aussies x3 A Black Tri Jedd, Hes not good at Frisbee ._. But he loves snow :D and a Red Myrle, Jurzee, Shes skiddish xD She barks at brooms...brushes....Idk..she has ALOT of irational fears xD

  • Our Shelby is such a baby. She is so loving and loyal. She is practically human like. She is sooo spoiled. Do you know when we let her outside she will wait on the porch for you to come out to walk her up to her "spot" to go to the bathroom. She travels in the 18 wheeler....she loves to lay under a blanket...she loves to go for walks and she loves being loved!

  • I saw a albino Ausi once.

  • @Theodosia2839 thats not a good thing it means it was a breeding most of the time , when there white like that it offen means they are or will be def and blind

  • Oh, well thats sad

  • my granpa had this awesome austrailian that had no tail whatsoever, he was a really loyal dog to my grandpa who had horses, and he would help round them up, but he would always snap his teeth at us and get jumpy when we were smaller cause he was trying to herd us lol, but he was really sweet when we were older

  • cute!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I have a mini aussie. He is red, tan, and white. He is red merle though. we live on a farm and i am teaching him flyball and agility. We have 2 other dogs also. I think he gets pleanty of exercise. not to mention the herding and the 1 mile walk everyday!

  • i mean he is NOT red merle sorry.

  • I can't wait until my Terra can frisbee and herd. Check my videos for her. <3

  • i love aussies

even though mine's not a pure bred

    i love her!!!!

  • I have had my Aussie (Jake) for 9 years he has been great, I have lots of room where I live he can go where ever, but he is always at my back door when go out , very smart and aggressive to strangers, barks only when he sees or hears something out of the norm, he does stay by my side great companion

  • I miss my little red Aussie. <3

  • It odd that these dogs are called Australian shepherds even though they were not even bred in Aus.

I have never seen 1 anywhere is australia and most cattle and sheep stations use cattle dogs to move stock.

They are not even a Reg breed here, so why call them Aussie shepherds?

    And the docking of dogs is illegal and cruel it takes away the nature of a dog and is not aloud in any dog shows{well here anyway}

  • they're naturally bobbed. they're born that way.

  • @ImeAust well it's also sad when they lose their tails in the barbed wire

I'm not pro docking but if you're driving cattle or sheep it is safer for your dog

  • i love aussies

  • I love my Aussie! She is perfectly content to lay around most days, and of course play with our other two dogs.

  • my neighbor had an aussie and even though they owned horses they didnt do CRAP with that dog and i knew she was unhappy cuz she barked at literally everything out of boredom =(

  • i ahve a red merle aussie , who loves herding , but she wont go near a frisbee :P , i give mine a 4/4 for protection , she scares the crap out of anyone she doesn't know !

  • LoL My Aussie, Dally, is the opposite of yours. She loves frisbee, doesnt really herd, except the cats, and she will invite anyone in. She even went out and leaned against a state trooper's leg when he came and asked about the neighbors cows that were out.

  • My aunt now has a mini Aussie! He's a very energetic little guy.

  • I have a black tri Aussie, we've had her about three years now, she's the best dog I've ever owned, and is actually fairly lazy compared to most other dogs.

  • i love aussies but i have to put mine down this week.

  • i love those dogs i have one

  • Were thinking of getting an Aussie! Will one walk a day and like playing fetch or something be enough excersize for them? ive heard their VERY high energy

  • I have a Aussie she's 3 years old and no more high energy than other dogs, Fantastic family pet,

  • yeah they ARE very high energy! Be sure you can handle a dog like this. They NEED the action and doing things with them every day. Otherwise you have a really demanding dog.

  • Honestly, it probably won't. Making do with a walk, and a little bit of fetch time isn't going to cut it for an Aussie. Those dogs need real space to move around in, and they have to have a job. Unless you're able to provide them with a couple hours' work a day, do NOT get one. You have a neurotic, unhappy animal on your hands.

  • fucking ads...

  • there are actually five color type, red merle, red tricolor, blue merle, black tricolor, and phantom merle (solid black but with a blue merle collar around its neck, prettyt awesome!)..mine is black tricolor

  • That phantom blue merle would still be considered a blue merle, not a separate color. And a phantom merle is any merled dog in which the merling cannot be seen easily. I have A red merle W white and tan, a Black Tri and a Blue Merle with white and tan who borders on being a phantom merle.

  • animal planet! Whooo hooo!!!!

  • My cousin's friend owns an aussie. It's such an adorable playful dog. Sadly the owners are lazy and never give it any exercise. They have a big yard too. The only time it gets to play is when we come over and he chases us around their pond. Sometimes I just want to steal him!

  • i have a black white and brown one there great dogs XD

  • that would be called a Black Tri ^_^ I have one too

  • ive had aussies all my life, been a dog groomer 30 years. my baby sapphire died 3 years ago. she was a powder blue, no copper, blue eyes and she was a talker! i think im almost ready for a newone, im thinking the yellows are nice....

  • I have an australian Shepherd and she's a wonderful dog :D

  • Hey iv asked u a billion times... Can u please make a Australian kelpie video

  • freaky, my australian shepherd is named coco as well.

  • luv herding dogs especially aussies. getting a new Bearded collie pup in a couple days!!!

  • relly?make a video when you get it

  • so cute!

  • I just got an Australian Shepherd last night! She is such a sweetheart. She has SO much energy. She is only 9 weeks old. I can't wait until she is fully grown. If anyone knows about how long it takes for them to reach their full size, please reply to this and let me know! thanks!

  • about 12 to 13 months

  • Truly one of the most intelligent animals you'll ever find. Socialized correctly, they are great family animals. It really disturbs me to see the rescue ones available with most having comments of no cats, kids or other dogs recommended. That's bad training.

  • There are 6 colors: Black Tri, Red Tri, Black Bi, Red Bi, Blue Merle And Red Merle. Aussies are AWESOME! I have 2 AKC, a blue merle and a red tri and they love to herd our cats, chihuahuas and horses, as well as my nieghbors horses & chickens. I do NOT reccomend this breed for anyone living in a city setting. This breed needs an nice sized area to live.

  • There are FOUR colors and ALL 4 base colors can come With or Without Copper points and OR White markings. You are correct when you said a Red with white is called a Red Bi But the registered color is considered a Red.

also correct on a black and white being a Black Tri, But again it would be registered as simply a Black.

  • @morningstarhorses

I live in the city and i've seen some happy and well taken care of Aussies

  • i hate it when they dock thier tails!

  • I'm not fond of it ether but please remember not all aussies are docked, some are born with a short tail.

  • i have a dog that is half australian shepherd and half siberian husky. VERY jumpy and VERY fast.

  • she must be beautiful!

  • Lol i love how Americans say "Aussie" ...it's "ozzie" not "ossie" :P Love it.

  • a friend of mine has 2 of those and they work with cows and bulls not sheep :P

  • i think this narrator is the same guy from Max Ex..

  • I volunteer for Aussie Rescue in Michigan. If you want an Aussie, get it from a rescue. My dog had late stage heartworm and they treated him. It cost the Australian Shepherd Rescue over $600 to treat him. I adopted him for $200. He's the best dog we've ever had. Guard, protect & PLAY with your kids! Aussies are the best. Very high energy, but totally love their humans. Velcro dogs. Need people around, so not the dog for families where no one is home for over 8 hrs.
