It doesn't take a couple of years at a pack a day to kill you, or even several decades in most cases. It takes two or more packs a day for years upon years to make it seriously dangerous (ex. my step-grandma that once was a chainsmoker has emphysema now) yet my grandpa (smoked for 50 years) is perfectly healthy.

@UltraVert The difference is that cigarettes contain toxic chemicals. Unhealthy food can cause you to gain weight etc etc, but you can always balance your diet and exercise and be fine. Some people just handle unhealthy food a lot better. I, myself have a high metabolism, and I can eat just about anything and get no exercise and gain absolutely no weight.

That's actually not a difference, when the chemicals I listed are proven to be toxic and dangerous, the difference would be whether or not people handle it good like you said, but the agenda seems to be heavily against smoking and the smokers themselves (some states are now trying to ban smoking on the sidewalk). On the other hand, you don't see the same passion about our food, or for example 'dietary supplements' which do not have to be FDA certified.
